From Adal:

Here’s what I consumed in February. Let me know if you have any recommendations:

TV:

Shogun - I’ve only seen the first 2 episodes but they were absolutely epic. I think this is going to be something special.

Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12

The Daily Show - I’ve been checking back in on Mondays to catch Jon Stewart.

Survivor season 46

Abbott Elementary season 3

Mr. & Mrs. Smith - this was way better than I think anyone expected. I hope we now see Maya Erskine in more high profile projects

Last Week Tonight season 11

David Chang: Dinner Time Live

Deadloch - only a few eps in but it’s been a charmingly dark and off-kilter ride so far

Somebody Feed Phil season 7 - he eats like a tortoise but I love this show

Untold: Swamp Kings

Movies:

Dune and Dune 2 in 4DX

High School Musical - Jemma decided the other day we had to watch this since I’d never seen it

The Zone of Interest - after High School Musical I picked this to watch. Not sure if there’s a bigger chasm between 2 movies in the history of film?

Nate Bargatze: Full Time Magic

Nate Bargatze: The Tennessee Kid

Nate Bargatze: The Greatest Average American

Rory Scovel: Religion, Sex and a Few Things In Between

Ron Funches: Giggle Fit

Music:

Chromeo: Adult Contemporary

MGMT: Loss of Life

The Decemberists: Burial Ground

The Libertines: Shiver

P.J. Harvey: I Inside the Old Year Dying

Other Stuffs:

Wonderful to see some of you at Sketchfest this year! Thank you to everyone who said hi and those who handed off a thoughtful gift. Had some incredible food at Mandalay and Il Porto Fino and tasty drinks at both Bourbon & Branch and Zombie Village (the passion fruit whipped cream sitting atop one of my drinks was such a hit that Jemma ordered a side cup of it). We also very much enjoyed the Time Train room at The Escape Game San Francisco.

Threw a Super Bowl party and an old friend introduced me to one of my new favorite things, Donna’s Pickle Beer. I’m now on the hunt for pickle beers so please keep your eyes peeled

My sister Sadieh was back in Chicago to film a few episodes of season 3 of the tv show Somebody Somewhere; so look for that on MAX soon!

Jemma and I went to NYC to see Sleep No More one more time before it closes. I had a dynamite last hurrah - getting an elusive one-on-one and meeting up afterwards with friend of the show/sweetheart Thomas Sanders. I promptly bought tickets for 2 more visits to Sleep No More in March….after those THEN I’ll be done….

Also while in NYC we did a great escape room at MyssTic Rooms (the Ghost Light room), saw the new immersive show Tiger Bride, enjoyed Bagel Pub a few times and went to the vegetarian restaurant Anixi; where Jemma teared up from joy while tasting the first bite of her ‘steak’ that she said was just like the real thing.

In Chicago I’ve been bewitched by Bad Ass breakfast burritos and went back to  Warlord (my other obsession) a couple more times. Jemma and I enjoyed the local immersive show Lonely Hearts: The Haunting, seeing John Mulaney at The Den, catching the New Zealand dance group Black Grace and seeing the musical Illinoise (based on the Sufjan Stevens album)

Jemma and I love the board game Horrified so we picked up and played the new Horrified: Greek, with all greek mythology monsters. At some point I’ll need to grab the Norther American Monsters version which is supposed to be fun

Hello From the Magic Tavern recorded our first episode of season 5 with a guest I think folks will be excited about. The new season starts March 18th

I recently guested on the podcast The Brett Demott Show, which I was already a fan of. Their recent episode with Erin is especially great

I enjoyed listening to the podcast mini-series Keys to the Kingdom - about all the sordid behind the scenes shenanigans at DisneyLand

Wednesday Jemma and I head off to hunt the Northern Lights! Wish us luck!

Love

Hey Adal, I’ve been doing double-features with random themes every weekend to encourage myself to watch more movies and fight decision fatigue. Some categories I’ve done so far are “films with bird in the title” where I watched Bye Bye Birdie and the The Birdcage; or mockumentaries where I watched Drop Dead Gorgeous and Best in Show. Two film recs from these weekends are: 1.) Ninotchka. Considered one of Greta Garbo’s best films. There are some truly excellent gags and witty dialogue. 2.) Paprika. One of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen with a complex and engaging plot.

Adal! Bosque brewing (NM) does a Pickle Down Economics, it’s great!

AusTin

Mr. And Mrs. Smith is so vastly better than it has any right to be.

Amanda Abdill

Next time you’re in NYC, check out INTER_ in SoHo - I’ll send a Dm or something bc I know a guy (My husband is the GM)

Kevin Martin

Dear Adal, thanks for carrying the team on your back. We appreciate you. Also, listened to that Disney podcast and really enjoyed it.

HRR team, how do I join the discord? I think there should be a discord for all the Patreon members for Chatterbox episodes

Hey Riddle Riddle

Go to Patreon settings, hit connected apps, then connect discord and you’re in!

Adal! I think you mentioned your dad being in TX during an episode - if you visit the Fort Worth area you should check out Martin House Brewing Company. lots of unique flavor combos/really sick artwork and they have one of the best sour pickle beers i’ve tasted! they also have some fun seasonal/specialty pickle beers flavors like spicy/pineapple/chamoy/bloody mary that you can find in HEBs/gas stations around the state
