Chapter 54: Eye of Foresight (Patreon)

After letting out a satisfied belch, Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirisu suddenly sprang to her feet.

She flung the black cloak off her body, sending it flying away, and stood before Rudy, brimming with energy.

In an utterly chuunibyou fashion, she laughed heartily, "Thank you so much!!! After eating all that, I could hold out for another year without any problem!!!"

Hearing this, Rudy felt, from the bottom of his heart, that this Demon Emperor was, honestly, living a rather pitiful existence.

The next moment!! Just as Rudy was about to speak, Demon Emperor Kishirika beat him to it and asked first...

"Alright, hurry up and tell me your name!!!"

"Rudeus..."

"I see. I am Kishirika, known as the Demon Emperor!!!"

As she spoke, Demon Emperor Kishirika struck all sorts of incredibly chuunibyou poses. For a moment, Rudy felt numbness creep from his head down to his toes — it was simply eye-searing!!! His cringe was flaring up something fierce, almost unbearable!

Fortunately, though, the excruciatingly embarrassing display finally stopped.

Demon Emperor Kishirika laughed heartily, "Thank you for saving me!!! So, tell me your wish — but you only get one, okay!!!"

Nodding, Rudy smiled and said, "I've heard your name before... You're able to bestow a special magic eye upon others, aren't you!!"

Nodding vigorously, Demon Emperor Kishirika crossed her arms. "That's right!!"

Rudy smiled. "Then please give me an eye that can see through the true nature of all things in the world."

Demon Emperor Kishirika nodded and quickly aimed her own magic eye at Rudy. Soon, she shook her head helplessly. "Sorry, I can't give you that one. But I can give you an eye that can predict the future — do you want it??"

Rudy smiled and nodded. "The Eye of Foresight — that's good too. Give it to me, please."

Demon Emperor Kishirika chuckled and rushed straight up in front of Rudy. (Thud) She pressed a finger against Rudy's eye.

A surge of intense, peculiar magic power flowed from her finger into his eye. But at the same time, intense pain also invaded his mind.

The instant he felt the pain, Rudy simply severed the pain nerves in his eye.

Soon, once Demon Emperor Kishirika finished granting the Eye of Foresight, she laughed heartily. "Well done on the food you gave me!! If you run into trouble in the future, come find me!! Well then, farewell..."

As soon as Demon Emperor Kishirika finished speaking, her entire body vaulted over the wall and leapt away, leaving Rudy sitting right where he was, slowly growing accustomed to the Eye of Foresight.

"This Eye of Foresight feels strangely familiar..."

"If my every regression..."

"is like a fish leaping from the river of time up onto the surface of the water, following a prior anchor point, leaping straight to that anchor's location..."

"then this Eye of Foresight..."

"is instead a special formula suspended above my own head, on the surface of the river of time. This formula is connected to my left eye."

"Then what if I connect this formula to my right eye as well??"

Thinking this to himself, Rudy did exactly that.

And the next moment, the perspective of both his eyes became completely unified.

Whereas before, with one normal eye and one Eye of Foresight, the difference between the two had produced a visual discrepancy that was extremely uncomfortable. But now, with both eyes fully synchronized, it felt far more bearable.

As he poured in magic power, Rudy carefully studied the special formula floating above the river of time.

The formula would scan its surroundings as magic power fed into it — a sensation somewhat similar to a scanner he'd used in his previous life.

After scanning the surrounding conditions, the formula would filter out certain targets — or rather, things he himself had taken notice of — and return them to his mind.

Since it was all a formula running within the river of time, its operation consumed no time whatsoever.

Of course, when he poured in his own magic power, that part of his body still existed within reality — that is, within the waters of the river of time itself — so it would naturally be affected by the world's flow of time.

The more magic power he poured in, the higher the formula would rise above the river's surface, and the broader its scanning range would grow — meaning the feedback of future information he received would naturally increase as well.

Furthermore, this special formula seemed to be a variant of the regression-summoning formula. Though Rudy couldn't quite make sense of it yet, he believed that with his nearly ten years of research into regression, he would soon reach some concrete results.

By then, perhaps he could develop this Eye of Foresight into a state beyond anyone's imagination!!!

In rather good spirits, Rudy pushed the basket on the ground into a corner and turned to leave the place where he had met Demon Emperor Kishirika.

As he walked along the road, he tried activating the Eye of Foresight, feeling out its effects.

With magic flowing in, he could see up to ten seconds into the future. But since the future held so much variability, that ten-second window was actually quite unstable — too many possibilities made it impossible to pin down the true direction things would take.

As he kept adjusting the foresight duration downward — seven seconds, five seconds, three seconds — he found that at around three seconds, his brain's reaction speed could just about parse out the most likely, truest course of the future.
