Chapter 46: Yulongdu's Package, Starting to Learn 'Teleportation' (Patreon)

He had said he would help Lao Wu make up its deficit, but with what Renan currently knew, doing that was undeniably difficult.
For now, the best he could manage was a mix of dietary supplementation and acupressure stimulation, slowly building up the water-type essence inside Lao Wu's body.
Even so, that only treated the symptoms, not the cause. It could fill in only part of the deficit that had been caused after birth.
As for the method he had once learned from textbooks, which was to have the Pokémon wear a high-grade or better water-type item like a Water Stone or Mystic Water so it absorbed the power bit by bit and strengthened its aptitude, Renan wouldn't do that.
Even if he wanted to, he would spend such resources only on the three little ones and on the companions he would catch in the future.
After lunch, Renan went back to the guest room, took out the package Lance had mailed, and opened it.
He had long since guessed that his Elite Four uncle would send plenty of good things. Still, when he actually saw the items spread out across the bed, a complicated look crossed Renan's face.
One each of Charcoal, Sharp Beak, Poison Sting, and Moon Stone.
All of them were high-grade quality at the least.
There were also ten gems each for the Fire, Flying, Normal, Poison, and Ground types.
Needless to say, these were meant for the three little ones to absorb, strengthening their aptitude and power.
—Type gems could speed up growth, while high-quality held items or evolution stones could, on top of the gems' effect, raise a Pokémon's level cap by a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5.
—Of course, raising potential by absorbing held items or evolution stones wasn't without limits. Generally, once a Pokémon reached the Elite peak, level 40, their effect dropped to almost nothing, and it often took several items to gain a single level. It was a luxury method only the children of the rich and powerful could afford.
As for ordinary Trainers…
Renan's gaze shifted to the two small booklets sitting beside the pile of items, both written in the Common Tongue.
According to the note Lance had tucked into the package, one of them was a photocopy of the notes he'd made while raising his Charizard.
It included how to make master-grade Pokéblocks for the Charizard line, along with plenty of ideas for further training its Fire-, Flying-, and Dragon-type moves.
Renan had suspected before that his Elite Four uncle's Charizard hadn't followed the Ability-development route, or at least not as purely as the late Cerulean Gym Leader's Gyarados had.
Now that he'd skimmed the notes, that was confirmed.
Still, that was only natural. Lance was a direct descendant of the Dragon-Tamer family of the Johto region. Unlike the original Renan, who was connected to the clan only through a long and winding chain of relations, Lance's starter Pokémon had high potential from the start and didn't need the most time-consuming, laborious method of cultivation.
…That said, the notes still devoted a few lines to developing the Ability 'Blaze.'
The core of this Ability was the Pokémon's own will. The more it craved victory, the more it craved strength, the more it craved defeating its enemies, the stronger 'Blaze' became.
Beyond that, there was also the path of the clan overlord. By absorbing the aura of a dominant leader, one could further boost the effect of 'Blaze.'
The notes also recorded plenty of smaller scraps of knowledge, which Renan planned to study slowly over the coming month.
Then he turned to the second booklet.
—Common Methods for Developing Psychic Moves.
It was a study resource that could be redeemed on the League forum for 500 points.
Normally, though, a Trainer who wanted to teach a move to their Psychic-type Pokémon, or a psychic like Renan, would run short of points and buy only the learning disc or notes for one particular move.
Now Lance had gone all the way and equipped his nephew with the full set.
'I don't even know how I'm ever going to repay this favor.'
Renan sighed inwardly as he flipped through the notes.
Of course, the psychic development notes the League sold didn't contain 'secret manuals' with moves that psychic families had refined for more power or lower mental strain.
Even so, to Renan this booklet mattered far more than the Charizard training notes.
—Having come from a world where all might belonged to oneself, he knew well that a mountain you lean on will fall, and a person you rely on will run.
Unfortunately, because of the underlying rule that Falna locks your stats unless it's updated, Renan had been using Breathing Techniques by day and Meditate in place of sleep at night for some time now, yet he hadn't felt any improvement in his physique or mental power.
He had originally prepared himself to stay in the Pokémon world for a year or two, even to lead Charmeleon and the others to a championship at the Indigo League in one go.
But on the fourth morning after Violet left by plane, the sudden appearance of an orange-haired girl had let Renan gradually work out some special rules of his 'shared space.'
…
Early this morning, Renan had done what he'd done the past two days: got up, washed, and fed breakfast to all the Pokémon at Cerulean Gym.
Then, based on the condition of the three little ones and the Squirtle Squad, he drew up a different training plan or diet for each of them.
As for himself, after Light Screen, and after Barrier and Agility, which he had mastered successfully yesterday and the day before, he was getting ready to try learning the move most useful to him right now: 'Teleportation.'
Like the Harry Potter world's spell 'Apparition,' getting started with 'Teleportation' carried a certain danger. One slip could leave you with your head separated from your body, or with a crippled limb.
So Renan had deliberately chosen to practice on an open stretch of ground behind Cerulean Gym.
His psychic level was just enough to meet the entry requirement for 'Teleportation.' But meeting it didn't mean he could learn it easily.
—Though he shared the power of his selves from three worlds, his own talent, to borrow the skill name on his Falna status window, was still nothing more than a 'Rabble.'
For two solid hours and more, Renan stayed stuck on the very first step: using his mental power to scan and lock onto spatial coordinates.
He had always had a clear idea of his own aptitude, so the slow progress didn't discourage him.
He still had a whole month ahead. Even if he had to grind it out bit by bit, he'd get there eventually.
With that thought, Renan stopped practicing, took out the key Violet had given him before she left, and headed toward the Gym's front gate.
As the temporary caretaker he'd been hired as, he also doubled as a security guard.
Normally, though, no thief would be foolish enough to come and rob a League Gym.
After all, the Gym Leader's Pokémon could truly teach them some manners.
But…
"Hm?!"
