Gunpowder propulsion plus the weight of the fall instantly drove the strike to a far more terrifying level.

And then—

WHUMP!

A dull crack burst out, the kind that made scalps prickle just from hearing it.

Just watching made Natsuka's head ache on the target's behalf.

One of the Amphisbaena's heads was smashed into a huge crater. The whole dragon head was driven straight into the lake, and its body thrashed violently as it screamed in agony.

"Target stunned successfully!"

"Team Two, follow up!"

Sora's orders came over [ST].

On both sides of the cliff face, hidden openings thrust out row after row of jet-black cannon barrels at the same time.

Load, ignite, fire, all in one smooth motion.

They were all old-style cannons.

They didn't fire explosive shells, but solid iron balls a full seventy centimeters across.

Things like these had originally been made for battering down city gates.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM—

The little toys weren't exactly accurate.

Several shots even went wide at three hundred meters.

But the two-headed dragon was simply too huge.

If the hit rate fell short, the target's size made up for it.

The heavy iron balls slammed into the Amphisbaena one after another. Its exposed scales cracked under each blow, fragments flying everywhere, and the soft flesh underneath began to show.

The Amphisbaena wasn't stupid.

The enemy's attacks were all physical.

The red mist couldn't suppress this kind of damage.

The blue head was still paralyzed and dizzy, with no time to mount any real response.

Its best option was just one—

Dive deeper into the lake and escape.

"Third Unit, crowd control!"

"Nihahaha, roger that!!"

Just as the two-headed dragon tried to dive away,

a pair of white wings suddenly spread open in midair.

Tachibana Kanade swept across the battlefield, light as a streak of white light.

She was carrying a whole string of "charms" in her arms.

Rikka and Kuroneko.

And flying in from the side, riding her staff, the magical girl Shichimiya Satone.

"Aaaaah—Sora! You just wait!"

"Nihahaha, Dark Flame Master, pull yourself together!!"

Behind Rikka, Yuuta tumbled down in free fall, spinning like an out-of-control top.

"Yuuta!"

"Idiot!"

"Your death won't be in vain!"

"I'm not GG yet! Stop planting death flags on me!!"

Rikka shouted at him with a grin.

As she swept past the top of the two-headed dragon's head, she broke free of Kanade's arms and fell together with Yuuta.

The next moment, she crossed her arms and tore off her eyepatch.

Even in midair, that tiny figure struck a pose fit for a ruler of the world.

"Come!"

"The time has come!"

"Behold my ultimate technique, the ultimate Evil Eye!"

Her voice rose sharply.

"Burst, reality!"

"Shatter, spirit!"

"Banish this world—!!"

An enormous golden magic circle spread across the entire great lake in an instant.

A strange and dazzling light swallowed the whole battlefield.

When the flash faded—

The two-headed dragon in the lake.

Rikka, Yuuta and Shichimiya in the air.

And Dekomori, who had been lying on the lake surface drifting along like a dead fish.

They had all vanished.

The Fantasy Realm.

The sky was a muddle of chaos.

Black clouds and a dim yellow setting sun cut across each other, as if someone had kneaded them together by force.

Dull thunder dropped now and then from deep within the clouds, and the whole world felt oppressive and unreal.

The ground underfoot was desolate and empty, coated in a thick blackish-red crust, the color of blood and mud dried together.

On the distant mountains,

a giant antique pocket watch turned slowly.

It was set in the center of an enormous crimson eye, its second hand ticking as if counting down for everyone.

The instant the hands reached twelve,

countless inverted building silhouettes high in the sky began to fall slowly.

It was as if this world's up and down, left and right, were about to be flipped over entirely.

A bleak mountain wind blew in, tugging at everyone's hems and sending hair flying.

Dekomori abruptly thrust a hand at the sky.

"Mjolnir Hammer Wielder—"

"is reborn here!"

The injuries she'd taken from the fall had all vanished in that moment.

She looked fully healed, as if resurrected on the spot.

And not only her.

Rikka, Shichimiya, Yuuta, Kuroneko, even Dekomori herself—everyone's outfits were changing.

The hems were more exaggerated.

The color schemes were more absurd.

Their presence was more chuunibyou than ever.

Across from them, the Amphisbaena looked visibly uneasy.

It kept letting out low Roars at its surroundings. Being pulled out of its familiar environment had left the monster utterly agitated.

Rikka planted her feet apart, one hand covering her eye, the other thrust high and forward, her tone overbearing in the extreme.

"This is the Ethereal Horizon!"

"I am the law, I am the end!"

"From this moment on, for the next seventy-two hours, time, space, even mass, are all mine to command!"

She pressed her arm forward.

"Come!"

"Bring it on!"

"Feel the boundless power of the Tyrant's Eye!!"

Dekomori stepped forward too, disgust all over her face.

"A mere two-headed reptile doesn't need Master to lift a finger!"

"Let me, the Mjolnir Hammer Wielder, teach this disobedient giant lizard a lesson!"

She flung her arms wide.

"War Hammers, be summoned!"

HUUM—

A huge red magic circle rose from beneath her feet.

The next second, one gigantic, futuristic war hammer after another floated out of the void.

Each one was frighteningly tall, easily three Dekomoris stacked on top of one another.

"Come, Servants of the Infinite World!"

"Lend me your power!"

"Thunder, heed my command!"

Dekomori grabbed one of the hammers.

Her figure vanished.

The next second, she had crossed several meters and flashed right in front of the Amphisbaena's face.

"Vermin!"

"Eat the iron hammer of justice—DEATH!"

"Azure Moon Thunder Crusher—!"

BOOM!

A dozen or so giant hammers wrapped in lightning whipped up a gale at her command and slammed into the two-headed dragon like the Constellation of Stars crashing down.

The Amphisbaena was completely stunned on the spot.

Why?

Why had this little runt suddenly become so strong?!

It hurriedly twisted its huge body and tried to block with its thick tail.

The thunder hammers and the dragon's tail smashed together, and a great cloud of blood mist burst out.

But this was far from over.

Rikka had no intention of stopping.

She reached out and clenched her palm as if gripping something.

A drop of fresh blood slowly welled up in it.

"By the blood pact, I summon your descent!"

"Come forth!"

"Schwarzsechs V.035 PLUS!"

"Jet-Black Giant Warrior!!"

Ring after ring of magic circles spread out as she chanted.

With a rumble, a giant mechanical arm first reached out of the circle.

Then an ancient mechanical colossus over thirty meters tall slowly rose up, its shadow covering a huge stretch of ground.

"Commence bombardment!"

"Jet-Black Sonata!"

At Rikka's command,

the mechanical war god's eyes lit up with a savage crimson glow.

Hatches all over its body opened in sync.

Exquisitely made cannon barrels with intricate patterns pushed out from inside it.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM—

Dense beams of crimson energy slammed into the area around the Amphisbaena and exploded, smoke and shockwaves surging together.

A shrill dragon's roar echoed across the heavens.

If the Amphisbaena had possessed full reasoning, it would surely be demanding of this world right now, half mad—

What gave them the right?

What gave these adventurers the right to be this absurd?!

But there was only one thing it could do now.

Block, desperately.

And crush these "ants" before it.

"ROOOAR—!!"

At some moment, it seemed to forcibly rewrite the laws of this world through sheer fury.

Its body began to swell.

It kept swelling.

Bigger and bigger, more and more outrageous.

Until its dragon head blotted out the whole sky, and its huge body seemed ready to burst the world itself. The next second,

scorching blue flames poured down from a maw large enough to swallow the sun.

The whole world looked about to be burned into hell.

Rikka covered her eye and cried out, pained and awed at once.

"As expected of a legendary divine beast!"

"A dragon pet raised by the gods!"

"This pressure is just too outrageous!"

Shichimiya Satone clamped a hand on her magical girl hat, which nearly got swept away by the gale, while the corners of her mouth curled higher and higher.

"Nihahaha!"

"Now this is a fight worth fighting!"

She raised her wand.

Pink light spread in all directions like water.

"Cherubim's eternal chant, Seraphim's descent—"

"All things in the world, bend to my will!"

A giant magic circle unfolded across the vault of the sky.

The next moment, countless heart-shaped light cannons rained down like a storm.

The two-headed dragon's red eyes flared.

It had no idea why it had suddenly grown so strong, either.

But that didn't matter.

As long as it could crush this pack of adventurers, that was enough.

Facing the sky-filling barrage, it spewed out an absurdly thick red mist.

The moment the red mist spread, most of the magic attacks dissolved into nothing on the spot.

"My attacks have no effect?!"

Rikka's eyes went wide.

"This is getting really annoying..."

"Master!" Dekomori pulled her fighting spirit back together.

Faced with a colossal dragon that descended like a god and nearly blotted out the world, she summoned even bigger war hammers.

Mechanical parts ground together with a deafening clatter.

Then, just like Rikka, she hauled out a giant golden mechanical colossus.

The two steel giants charged forward together.

Metal and flesh smashed into each other.

Sparks, fragments, scales and blood flew everywhere at once.

But the problem soon revealed itself.

Whether it was Rikka or Dekomori, their mental limits were what they were.

The forces they could pull out in this domain were impressive, but they still couldn't match the Amphisbaena's current specs.

Right then—

"Is that all you've got, Tyrant's Eye?"

An elegant yet icy voice suddenly rang out.

Kuroneko stepped slowly forward.

She wore a jet-black evening gown, its hem trimmed with feathers and roses.

When the wind blew, black petals swirled slowly around her on a dark current.

She spread her hands, her expression haughty.

"Then allow me to show you..."

"the stature of the Night's sovereign."

Her eyes slowly opened...

Her scarlet slit pupils contracted sharply.

In the next instant, six jet-black wings spread out behind her.

Purple-black thunder patterns rippled outward like waves.

"Sleep in the abyss of Eternal Night."

[Phobetor Daedalus].

A maddening curse crawled up the Amphisbaena's body like a tide.

In response, Kuroneko's own stats began to drop.

But she merely raised the corners of her lips.

"Reversal."

"Form release."

The stat-draining curse flipped completely in that moment.

Instead, Kuroneko's level began to climb rapidly.

Her mental power, originally Lv3, surged wildly across her skin.

Within Rikka's domain, the ceiling on the settings she could call upon was raised even further.

She slowly rose into the air.

Her figure grew more mature, fuller, sharper.

Like a true Queen of the Night suspended in the high heavens, she calmly met the gaze of those sun-sized dragon eyes.

Then she gently pressed her index finger to her lips.

And closed her eyes.

"Shh—"

The whole world fell silent.

As if swallowed whole by endless darkness.

The wind stopped.

The dragon's roar was gone.

Even the cannon fire and mechanical rumble cut off at that very moment.

The Amphisbaena was swallowed by a sphere so black it seemed to contain no light at all.

It shrank rapidly, turning into a black egg.

Crack.

Crack, crack.

The black egg shrank tighter and tighter.

Finally, at some breaking point, the shell split apart.

A terrifying force burst out.

The two-headed dragon's body exploded in many places at once, great sheets of blood raining down from above.

Kuroneko stood high in the sky, her tone as cold as if reciting a fact.

"To take one of my attacks head-on and still live."

"You've earned your pride."

The Amphisbaena roared, weak but furious.

In the next instant, it opened its jaws wide.

Red mist and azure flames surged out together.

The two forces were forcibly fused in midair, finally becoming a sheet of purple azure fire that set nearly the entire world ablaze.

Crack.

Crack.

The sky began to fracture like a tortoise shell.

This fantasy world looked ready to shatter at any moment.

Rikka panicked and whipped her head around to shout.

"Yuuta!"

"No, Dark Flame Master!"

"How long are you going to dawdle?!!"

Yuuta crossed his arms, wearing a look of utter despair.

"Just pull me in too, huh."

"It's been ages since I graduated..."

"Besides, aren't we supposed to be seriously subjugating a floor boss here?"

"Why not just leave it alone and wait for the disengage order?"

"All this bashing is only draining its mental strength..."

Rikka's eyes reddened and she grabbed his hem.

"Yuuta..."

"Ah, geez." Yuuta scratched his head and sighed. "I can't do anything with you."

"Since it's come to this—"

His voice suddenly shifted. He spread his legs, his hem lifting slightly.

One hand gripped his right arm, slowly unwinding the bandage wrapped around it.

Then he clapped his fists together.

"To dare summon a giant dragon before me..."

"This is its greatest mistake."

He covered half his face and began to laugh softly.

"Heh heh heh heh..."

"From the far shore of Asura's darkness, manifest!"

"Dark Flame Master, incarnation descends!"

He flung both arms out to the sides.

A massive surge of thick black energy burst out.

Stars instantly appeared in Rikka's eyes.

"Dark Flame Master is so cool!"

Even Dekomori was stunned.

"You're actually—"

"That's right."

Yuuta smiled coldly.

The next second, something like black mud shot skyward behind him.

Black wind howled, whipping everyone's hems.

Rikka shielded herself with one hand, then chimed in excitedly like a commentator.

"Over four thousand years of history, sealed by countless Sprites and sages working together, wielded by only six heroes—the most wicked dragon of all, the Dark Flame Dragon!"

Dekomori's face changed.

"Nidhogg?!"

As the name fell,

at the end of the world, a divine dragon wholly engulfed in jet-black flames slowly coiled into view.

No.

More precisely, it wasn't wrapped in black flames at all.

It was the very incarnation of the jet-black blaze.

Rikka's face changed too.

"You actually had something like that living inside you?!"

Yuuta's act collapsed on the spot.

"Didn't you make me summon it?!"

"Did I?" Rikka tilted her head. "Huh?"

Crack—the instant the Dark Flame Dragon appeared, the already fragile boundary of this world teetered on the edge of collapse once more.

A shard of the sky dropped, scattering pale holy light.

Kuroneko landed beside Shichimiya, thoroughly impatient.

"The game is over."

"Dark Flame Master, have your dragon finish it."

Yuuta nodded and swept a hand out.

"Go!"

"Dark Flame Dragon!"

"Bring this world to its end—End: Nidhogg!!"

Jet-black flames swallowed everything in an instant.

A flash of black light.

The world shattered completely.

Beside the great central lake,

Ryuu was completely dazed.
