There was nothing Daniel couldn't eat. With his digestion now, he could put away concrete, as long as it tasted good.

Once they'd ordered, the kimono-clad beauty led the four of them to a private room with tatami floors.

Before long, several women in kimonos brought in the already-grilled beef, plates and all, and set out a portion for each of them.

"We don't have to grill it ourselves?" Masumi Kamuro asked, surprised.

"That's how it works for rich people," Daniel said calmly.

When he'd been king, he'd simply given orders for whatever he wanted to eat. He only cooked for himself when the mood struck.

"Waaah... It's so much better than the grass on the roadside."

Ryo Yamada stuffed a slice of beef into her mouth, and tears of pure emotion welled at the corners of her eyes.

"Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration, Miss Yamada?" Sakayanagi Arisu's mouth twitched. She figured Ryo was just being absurd. Who eats grass by the roadside?

What she didn't know was that Ryo was dead serious.

Ryo's family ran a hospital, but she spent every yen of her allowance on instruments and music gear. She also had a bad habit of not keeping her hands to herself when shopping, so she often went hungry. Sometimes she really did go looking for clean-looking grass on the lawn to eat.

"Eat up, Ryo."

Daniel, who knew the story behind it, gave her half of his grilled meat with a touch of sympathy.

"Thankies!" Ryo said, her mouth crammed full.

After a feast of frantic stuffing, Ryo finally hit a food coma. She lay down on the tatami, stroking her swollen little belly with a satisfied look, her eyes narrowed to slits.

Daniel and the others could still keep eating. With their current physiques, putting away a whole cow wasn't a problem.

Sakayanagi Arisu and Masumi Kamuro noticed their appetites had grown enormously, as if they could keep eating forever. They looked at Daniel and asked:

"Yoru-kun, what's going on with us?"

Daniel paused for a moment, then understood. "With your bodies now, you'll digest however much you eat. But don't worry about going hungry, either."

"You'd be fine even if you didn't eat or drink at all. Eating is just to satisfy your cravings."

The two girls looked startled. "Then won't we gain weight?" they asked quickly.

"No. Relax. No matter how much you eat, your weight won't change."

Hearing that, both of them relaxed at once. Eating without gaining weight was practically every girl's dream.

Delighted, the two kissed Daniel on the cheek and smeared grease all over his face.

Daniel wasn't angry. He just pinched their fair cheeks in response.

Ryo, lying on the tatami, hadn't paid any attention to the conversation. In her food coma, she was nearly asleep.

So the others didn't keep eating either. After letting the little heiress, Sakayanagi Arisu, pay the bill, Daniel took the groggy Ryo by the hand and led her out of the restaurant.

The Maybach was still parked at the mouth of the alley. Daniel was about to walk over and put Ryo in the car when he suddenly frowned and stopped.

A faint smell of blood drifted from the alley behind him.

He spread his Mental Power Scan and found the source of the smell.

It was a man in a hood. Even with the hood shading his face, his bright golden eyes stood out.

The corners of his mouth were a bloody mess, and the blood wasn't his own. He looked like he'd just been gnawing on raw meat.

One of his arms was covered in jet-black scales, and the exposed hand had already mutated into a fearsome, dragon-like claw.

At that moment, he was passing the mouth of the alley in a daze.

But the hooded man seemed to catch a scent. He suddenly stopped and looked toward the alley.

His gaze didn't land on Daniel, though. It locked onto Masumi Kamuro and Sakayanagi Arisu, who had just stepped out after paying.

To his eyes, their enormous vitality and life force burned unusually bright. Drool ran uncontrollably from the corner of his mouth.

"Smells so good..."

The moment the words left him, a string of an ancient language spilled from his mouth, and his body vanished.

Word Spirit: Dark Light. It bent light to make the user invisible.

A gust of wind swept into the alley from its mouth, but under Daniel's Mental Power Scan, the fallen hybrid hadn't disappeared. He was charging straight toward Sakayanagi Arisu and Kamuro.

"Heh. Walk enough night roads and you really do run into ghosts. Though you picked the wrong person to come after."

Daniel stamped his foot. The air around them stilled at once, and the hooded man, still invisible, slammed into a wall of wind with a resounding crash.

Bang!

The hooded man's whole face caved in. Jet-black blood poured from his nose, eating into the ground and sending up white smoke.

He was knocked out of invisibility and crashed to the ground.

"What was that noise?!"

Masumi Kamuro jumped. She stared at the hooded man who had appeared out of thin air, a faint dragon's pressure radiating from him.

A normal person would probably have been frozen stiff with fear by now.

But to Kamuro, who bore the Beast Mark, it felt like a gentle breeze. It had no effect on her at all.

Sakayanagi Arisu was the first to notice the man's arm, which was nothing like a human's.

While he was still getting up, she quickly grabbed Kamuro's hand and ran to Daniel.

"Yoru-kun, what is that thing?"

"Just a fallen hybrid. Nothing to worry about. With your bodies now, one punch would kill him."

Daniel wasn't the least bit rattled. He even had time to explain it to Sakayanagi Arisu.

"Don't run... Let me... just let me take one bite..."

The hooded man pushed himself up and glared at the two girls behind Daniel, roaring in a half-crazed voice.

The shout startled the groggy Ryo wide awake. The moment she saw his golden eyes, her body locked up on the spot.

A bone-chilling sense of danger sent a shiver through her, and she very nearly wet herself.

"Forget it. I wanted to see what you could do, but you scared my little girlfriend. I'll just send you on your way."

Noticing Ryo's state, Daniel frowned and instantly cranked the gravity above the hooded man to the maximum.

The man, who had just gotten to his feet, was slammed back to the ground.

His body punched a human-shaped imprint into the concrete. Then it couldn't withstand the crushing weight and burst with a wet pop, leaving him flattened into a puddle of meat.

"Eek!"

However calm Ryo might be, she was still just a student. She'd never seen anything so graphic, and she rolled her eyes back and fainted on the spot.

Kamuro and Sakayanagi, now strengthened, only went a little pale at the sight.

Sakayanagi Arisu recovered first. "Yoru-kun, do you know where that thing came from?" she asked.

Daniel nodded and explained. "This world has dragons. That man was a human with dragon's blood, what we call a hybrid. If the dragon's blood outweighs the human blood, it drives them mad."

"That guy had already eaten people. He was probably trying to eat you two just now."

"But with your bodies now, even if I weren't here, you could take down a fallen hybrid like that. Either way, there's nothing to worry about."

Daniel reassured the two girls in a gentle voice.

"I see. I'm glad I met you, Yoru-kun. If it had been the old me, I might have been killed by something like that before my heart condition even got the chance."

"But why did my father never tell me about this? With his position, he should know about things like that."

Daniel held the unconscious Ryo with one arm and asked Sakayanagi Arisu in return, "Then, Arisu, have you ever heard of the Serpent Eight Families?"

"The Serpent Eight Families, the largest yakuza organization in Tokyo. I've heard my father mention them. What do they have to do with hybrids?" Sakayanagi Arisu thought back and answered.

"They're a yakuza made up of hybrids. Quite a few politicians are their people, and they cover up the truth of the world for them."

"Under their control, anyone who isn't a hybrid has no way of learning any of this."

"Oh, and they also have an AI that can block any information about dragons and hybrids."

Daniel told Sakayanagi Arisu what he knew, to satisfy her curiosity.

"So are you a hybrid too, Yoru-kun? Is that where your powers come from?" Sakayanagi Arisu asked, eager to know.

"Nope. I'm just a pure esper. There isn't a drop of dragon's blood in me."

Daniel told her the truth. Maybe there had been dragon's blood in his body once, but after he evolved into the Beast, there certainly wasn't any left.
