Daniel hadn't left the hotel.

He hadn't decided where to go looking for fun next, so he figured he'd eat something first and think about it after.

Once Chisei Gen and the others had gone, the suite's butler naturally didn't dare drag his feet any longer, and a lavish breakfast arrived at once.

Steak first thing in the morning would be too greasy for most people, but Daniel didn't mind in the least.

He dug in and tried to work out what to do with the day.

"Should I head back to school and keep Kushida Kikyo and the others company? Or go to Chiba and check out Flat Yukino and Workaholic Shizuka?"

"Or maybe go find Bocchi-chan with Ryo later. That works too."

"Come to think of it, Ryo's supposed to be at school at this hour, isn't she? Is she late?"

He swallowed his mouthful of beef and finally noticed the real point.

Still, she was sleeping so soundly. It should be fine not to wake her. It was only one skipped day of class.

Daniel set aside part of the breakfast for Ryo Yamada, who still hadn't woken, and got up to ask what she wanted to do.

If she didn't want to go, he'd use Hypnosis to get her the day off.

He walked into the bedroom, pinched Ryo Yamada's rosy, smooth cheek, and force-booted her.

"Oi, Ryo. Are you going to class today or not?"

"What class?"

Freshly force-booted, Ryo was still a little lost. Then it hit her, and she looked out the window at the sun hanging high in the sky.

"Crap, I'm gonna be late!"

Ryo Yamada shot upright like she'd been launched. She didn't care that Daniel was right beside her, and flashed a wide stretch of pale skin as she hunted for her clothes on the bed.

"Why the big reaction? If you don't want to go, just say so and I'll get you excused."

Daniel said it with an amused smile. With her track record she was hardly a model student, so why was she panicking over one skipped day?

After a full search, all Ryo found was her own sailor uniform, now filthy. She shot Daniel a resentful look.

"Easy for you to say. If Mom and Dad find out I stayed out all night and then skipped class the next day, they'll cut off my allowance completely."

"Also, Mr. Boyfriend, you wrecked my clothes. How am I supposed to go out like this?"

"Look at you, always in such a rush."

Daniel snapped his fingers. A clean, intact white shirt, denim shorts and black stockings appeared on Ryo's body.

In his other hand he produced a stack of yen and slapped it onto Ryo's perfectly ordinary chest.

"Here. Who needs an allowance? I'll just take care of you myself."

"$_$"

Ryo Yamada stared at the money in her arms, her eyes turning into dollar signs, her little mouth hanging open.

She didn't even notice the clothes that had appeared on her.

Deeply moved, she hugged the stack of cash and looked up at Daniel. "Thank you, Sugar Daddy, for taking me in. I'm all yours today!"

"Come on, don't go easy on me. Put some muscle into it, I can take it!"

Ryo Yamada, her head swimming with money, spat out a dirty joke right away and eagerly stretched her black-silk legs, her "dark chocolates," up to Daniel's lips.

The corner of Daniel's mouth twitched. "You really are easy to read, Ryo."

With it served up on a platter, he'd be a fool not to eat. Naturally.

Daniel was about to dig in when his sharp hearing picked up footsteps outside the door, deliberately muffled. They stopped right outside his room.

Who was coming to bother him this time?

He regretfully let go of the dark chocolates and sighed. "Seriously, not a minute earlier, not a minute later. Always some new nonsense."

"Ryo, hold on a bit. I'm going to take care of a small problem."

"Mm-hm."

Ryo had no objection. Hugging her yen, she flopped back onto the bed with a blissful look and was asleep in three seconds.

Daniel got up and walked into the living room, shutting the bedroom door behind him. The suite's front door had already been pried open.

Several people in black kimono and demon masks came face to face with him, and their eyes met.

The moment was a little awkward, but it passed quickly. The intruders drew short blades from their waists and rushed in to take Daniel down.

Behind them stood several men in suits. One of them, gun in hand, aimed at Daniel's arm and pulled the trigger without hesitation.

Bang!

The bullet had barely left the barrel when it traced a bizarre curve and struck the head of the masked kimono-wearer at the very front.

Blood sprayed. The headshot man dropped face-first to the floor, dead.

Daniel hadn't moved an inch. It looked as though the shooter had simply botched his aim and killed one of his own.

The remaining masked men stopped short and turned in disbelief to stare at the man who had fired.

"It wasn't me! I aimed properly!"

The suited man rushed to defend himself. He had no idea what had happened. Even in daily practice his aim had never been this far off.

"Idiot, we'll deal with you later. That might have been the target's Speech Spirit. Don't use guns!"

One of the masked men gave the order, then closed in on Daniel in a single stride. His Golden Pupils lit up and the muscles all over his body swelled, turning bronze.

Speech Spirit: Bronze Throne.

He didn't draw his blade. What had just happened looked a lot like Imperial Sword, the Speech Spirit that controls metal, so he decided against weapons and drove a fist at Daniel's stomach instead.

With his Speech Spirit active he could punch through steel plate. Even against a high-level hybrid, a Speech Spirit without physical enhancement was no match for him.

But before that confident blow could land, Daniel merely glanced at him. The man felt his whole body go light. He split into two halves, top and bottom, and blood and entrails spilled everywhere as he collapsed onto the expensive carpet.

"Speech Spirits. So you're little dragonkin."

Daniel grinned. He'd been wondering where to find some fun, and the fun had delivered itself to his door.

These guys definitely weren't Chisei Gen's people. Big Bro-in-Law wasn't that thick-skulled, which left only the Fierce Ghosts.

"I hadn't even gotten around to bothering Herzog, and he came looking for me first."

The others watched Daniel cut one of their own in half without making a single move, and cold sweat broke out on their foreheads.

"Damn it, what Speech Spirit is that? Is he another monster like the one from the Serpent Eight Families?"

"Everyone, attack together! There's no way he can keep using that terrifying power forever!"

As the Fierce Ghosts surged forward, Daniel turned his hand into a blade and swept it through the air. A transparent blade of air passed through every person in the room and vanished.

They were still holding their charging postures, but as they pushed off, the upper and lower halves of every Fierce Ghost slid apart and dropped onto the carpet separately.

Blood and entrails spilled everywhere, and a thick stench of gore instantly filled the room.

"Aaagh!"

"My legs!"

"What kind of monster is this?!"

The Fierce Ghosts, cut in two on the floor, howled in chorus.

Daniel ignored the screaming, picked one at random, and prepared to read his memories with mental force. He wanted to confirm whether the one who'd given the order was that old bastard Herzog.

But just then a mental attack slipped into Daniel's mind. Before he'd even done anything, his own mental force crushed it on its own.

It also lightly struck back along the connection.

"Ngh!"

A muffled groan came from the doorway, and Daniel looked up.

A masked figure in a blood-red women's kimono lay on the floor, convulsing, blood streaming from every orifice.

Daniel couldn't help laughing at the sight.

"Attacking me with a mental Speech Spirit? You've got some nerve."
