Chiba Private Hospital. Chisei Gen stared at the report in his hands, his face dark.

Nearly all his other test results were normal. The exception was the faint shadowy fissure on his head CT.

[The shadow in the head is suspected to have been caused by surgery. The effects of the surgery are unknown, but it may well influence the patient's own cognition and emotions.]

[Recommend reviewing the patient's surgical history.]

Chisei raised a hand to touch the spot between his brows without thinking. Anger rose in his chest, so fiercely that it lit his Golden Pupils.

Yabuki Sakura saw what he was holding and was just as furious. "So there really was something wrong. That damned Tachibana Masamune actually dared to lay hands on the Young Lord!"

"Young Lord, I'll have someone take that bastard into custody right now!"

"No! Don't alert him. First, notify Yasha and have him take Erii out of Genji Heavy Industries. Don't say it outright, though. Kaguya might be listening in."

Chisei stopped Sakura. He was furious, but he hadn't lost his reason.

If even he had been tampered with, Masamune would never spare Erii.

And if it came to a clash and the enemy could control Erii, nobody in the entire Serpent Eight Families could match the lethality of her Speech Spirit.

"Understood, Young Lord. I'll call Yasha right away." Sakura swallowed her rage and took out her phone.

While she called Yasha, Chisei turned over what to do next.

The foster father who had raised him was nothing but an ambitious man out to steal the dragon's power. He had adopted them only to turn them into tools he could control.

If Daniel hadn't told him, he and Erii would probably have died without ever noticing anything wrong, used up as expendable resources without ever knowing it.

Then there were the Fierce Ghosts. They surely had ties to Masamune as well.

He had long suspected a traitor inside the Serpent Eight Families. Otherwise, why was it that every operation against the Fierce Ghosts failed to wipe them out?

With Kaguya's capabilities, nobody could slip past the Families' sight unless someone covered for them.

But now he had to work out who in the entire Serpent Eight Families could be trusted. What if some of the Family Heads were Masamune's backup plan?

Right now, Chisei felt it would be better to just go straight to Daniel and have him kill Masamune.

"Yo, Big Bro-in-Law, what're you brooding over? Look at that sour face."

Daniel's voice drifted from the end of the hospital corridor. Chisei's head snapped up. That indescribable existence was raising a hand in greeting.

Two women walked beside him, and one of them looked strangely familiar.

"Mr... Daniel. What brings you here?"

The terror of having seen the man's true form surged up in him again. Chisei stood at once and went to meet him. Sakura hadn't looked up back then, but when she saw the Young Lord rise, she hurried after him.

"No need to be so formal. Just call me by my name."

Smiling, Daniel pushed Kazama Ruri forward. "Here. Delivered your brother to you."

Chisei's gaze sharpened as he matched that face to his memory. "Are you... Chime? You're not dead!?" he said, his tone complicated.

Kazama Ruri gave a cold laugh. "Heh. I don't go by that name. I'm Kazama Ruri now. Your dear little brother has turned into a little sister."

He obviously meant Daniel's handiwork, but Chisei had no way of knowing that.

Chisei's expression grew even more complicated.

"Sorry. Then I'll call you Ruri."

"I may not have the right to say this. But even if I hurt you badly, Ruri, you shouldn't have changed your sex just to get away from me."

"Hahahahaha! Big Bro-in-Law, how does your brain even work? You're killing me!"

Daniel couldn't hold it in for a second and burst out laughing.

Sakurai Kogure, who had come with them, stared at Kazama Ruri in shock. "Lord Ruri, could it be that you really...?" she said, her face full of pity.

Kazama Ruri's face went black. Sex change, what the hell? He roared at Chisei, the source of the rumor.

"Change my ass! I'm a personality that split off from Chime Gen, and this body is male!"

"What I meant was that the guy next to me pulled Chime Gen's personality out and turned it into a woman!"

"Damn you, I'll kill you!"

Chisei wasn't surprised that Daniel could do such a thing. In his eyes, the man was practically a god.

What he hadn't expected was for Kazama Ruri to attack him directly.

Kazama Ruri couldn't beat Daniel, so naturally he took all his anger out on Chisei.

He had even activated his Dragon Bone State, and he threw a punch straight at Chisei.

"Young Lord!" Sakura hadn't reacted in time. All she could do was watch him strike.

Chisei was startled too. He started to raise a hand to counter, but the memory surfaced of killing Chime with his own hands after Chime had become a fallen ghost.

His prepared movement stalled. Kazama Ruri's fist landed squarely on Chisei's face.

Bang!

Chisei flew back several meters and crashed to the floor. Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, and his handsome face swelled up at once.

Had he not been an Emperor-class hybrid with hardened bones, an ordinary hybrid taking that punch would probably have been left a vegetable.

"You want to die!" A murderous glint flashed in Sakura's eyes. A dagger slid from her sleeve and she charged.

"Cough! Stop, Sakura!"

Her dagger halted at Kazama Ruri's throat. She glared fiercely at him, since he hadn't dodged or flinched, and only then reluctantly stepped back.

Kazama Ruri ignored her completely. With a cold snort, he spoke to Chisei on the floor. "Hypocrite. Do you think letting me punch you once means I'll forgive you?"

"Sorry..." Chisei lay on the ground, not knowing how to answer. His gaze moved to Daniel, who was enjoying the show.

"Mr. Daniel, since you know so much, may I ask you a question?"

"Mm-hm. Go ahead." Daniel had already guessed what he would ask.

Sure enough, Chisei asked about the truth of that year. "Was it because of Tachibana Masamune that Chime became a fallen ghost back then?"

Daniel nodded. "That's right. The reason you two ended up killing each other is that Tachibana Masamune controlled Chime Gen with his methods, and that's what set off the massacre."

"And he used your hand to fake Chime Gen's death, so he could turn him into a blade in his own hand to build up the Fierce Ghosts."

Chisei's mood grew even heavier. His palm pressed down hard, leaving a finger mark in the marble floor.

It really was him!

"What? Is that bastard Tachibana Masamune really Osho's true form?!" Kazama Ruri asked Daniel in astonishment.

"That's right. It's him." Daniel answered with a smile.

"Damned old bastard, I'll kill him!" Kazama Ruri turned on his heel, ready to head back to Tokyo, drag the old man out and kill him.

"Wait, Ruri!" Chisei pushed himself up off the floor to stop him.

Kazama Ruri glared at him. "Bastard, are you going to stop me?!"

"No. I'm just worried he'll take control of you. Tachibana Masamune tampered with our brains!"

"If you can, try trusting your big brother this once. I'll bring him here to kneel before you and Chime, and make him pay right in front of you."

Kazama Ruri froze. His head turned aside, avoiding Chisei's worried gaze, and he said stubbornly, "Who asked you to flatter yourself!"
