Chapter 142: Tyrant VS Nemesis? (Patreon)

No matter how fast the military moved, it couldn't possibly be this fast.
Ahead lay the Tyrant, which could break through its "blockade" at any moment. Overhead hung a threat from an uninvited guest. Sledgehammer sensed that something was off now, too.
Hawkeye, another Delta Force operator, raised his AWM and aimed it at the helicopter's cockpit. There was nothing there.
Unmanned?
Hawkeye was baffled. Then the helicopter began to lose control and plowed into a nearby building.
"BOOM!"
A huge explosion rang out, and the fuselage tore apart in an instant.
Brad, meanwhile, was patrolling the skies with two officers. He had spotted the commotion in Raccoon City's northeastern industrial district...
At the same moment, a hulking black figure leapt down from the hatch!
Its massive body slammed into the rooftop and kicked up a cloud of dust.
It stood roughly 2.65 meters tall. Its whole body was wrapped in a thick, black, skin-tight restraint suit, the fabric torn in many places to reveal the taut, bulging contours of muscle beneath. A black hood covered its entire head, hiding its face completely.
In its right hand it held a quad-barrel Rocket Launcher, resting on its shoulder. The four barrels radiated a suffocating menace.
It pulled its single fist back from the ground, rose to its feet, and swung the barrels toward the spot where Hawkeye and the others stood.
Hawkeye didn't hesitate. His sights snapped onto the monster's head and he fired a round. Sledgehammer and the other two members opened up as well, laying down a blanket of fire.
But the Delta Force team's assault didn't make it retreat an inch. It pushed through the gunfire and squeezed the trigger.
A rocket streaked out on a trail of flame with a sharp, tearing whistle.
"Whoosh!"
Hawkeye's face turned green. He hurriedly shouted for everyone to scatter.
Alex was reluctant to move, since he had finally caught sight of the Tyrant, but with their lives on the line, he had no choice but to dodge.
All five of them timed their dives perfectly, and they escaped the rocket by a hair.
Just then the Tyrant was sticking its head out of the hole, ready to finish off the Delta Force team once and for all!
But the C-4 countdown ran out at that exact moment. The blast staggered it and it dropped to its knees.
As luck would have it, the rocket the team had just dodged detonated right at its feet. The Tyrant, along with a shower of rubble, dropped through the gaping hole back into the stairwell.
Alex snapped back to his senses, but he had no time to worry about where the Tyrant had gone. He held his breath, aimed his RPG at the spot, and fired.
"BOOM!"
The thing's speed was nowhere near the Super Tyrant's. It had no chance of reacting to this RPG round and took the hit squarely. The tremendous force blasted it clean off the rooftop, and it crashed onto the solid ground below.
Alex didn't dare let his guard down. He knew this was far from over.
Sledgehammer burst out cursing.
"Those fucking Umbrella bastards, what the hell are they after?!"
"Unleashing these damn things on Raccoon City, they've got no shame at all!"
Hawkeye cut in quickly.
"Now's not the time for that. Boss, what do we do next?"
Alex took another rocket from a teammate and finished reloading. He strode to the edge of the roof and stared down at the figure lying on the ground, flames licking off its body.
"It's come to this. There's no retreat. We fight to the death!"
With that, he fired. "Whoosh!" The rocket flew out and struck the firing chamber of the quad-barrel Rocket Launcher on the thing's body.
"BOOM!"
The explosion was fiercer than any before it, and a pillar of scorching heat surged straight toward Alex's face.
"Thwack!"
Right then, a sharp-clawed hand hooked onto the edge of the hole that had been blown open earlier.
Alex spun around and grabbed another rocket from his teammate. He loaded it as fast as he could while keeping his eyes locked on the Tyrant's movements.
A second hand clamped onto the edge.
The earlier attacks had clearly done their job. The surface of the hand was scorched black, and even the knuckles of the thumb and index finger had been blown off. The rest of the flesh was a bloody mess and gave off the stench of burnt meat.
"Rat-a-tat-tat!"
Suddenly, the sound of a helicopter rang out. Hawkeye, still traumatized by the earlier crash, didn't think twice before preparing to put a burst into the cockpit.
A spotlight swept over the group. An officer raised a megaphone and shouted.
"Hey! Who are you? What are you doing here?!"
Sledgehammer stopped Hawkeye. He had recognized the markings on the helicopter.
[RPD]
The abbreviation for the Raccoon City Police Department.
He quickly waved and shouted back.
"It's a misunderstanding! We're Delta Force!"
"We're here to bring down Umbrella's conspiracy!"
The officer with the megaphone was about to reply when his partner on the mounted machine gun nudged him. He followed the man's gaze and saw the Tyrant clawing its way back up onto the rooftop from the stairwell.
Alex, who hadn't joined the conversation and had been quietly watching the Tyrant the whole time, naturally didn't let the chance slip. He pulled the trigger, and the second-to-last rocket set sail once more!
The Tyrant was clearly battered all over. The left side of its face had been blown into a black, charred mass. A big chunk of flesh was gone from its right calf, exposing white bone. Its powerful upper body was riddled with holes of every size, some still burning.
Even so, this time it reacted. It slammed a hand down on the rooftop, and before the floor could collapse, its whole body launched into the air, as if performing the Toad Skill, and dodged the rocket.
Alex swore inwardly. He knew all too well that if the Tyrant evaded this assault, the initiative on the battlefield would change hands in an instant.
"WO—ROOAAR!"
The Tyrant let out an enraged roar. It rushed forward, claws aimed straight at Alex himself, sworn to kill him and vent its fury.
"Rat-a-tat-tat!"
In that critical moment, the officer on the machine gun opened fire wildly. Shell casings flew, and a stream of golden sparks swept along the Tyrant's path.
The Browning M2HB .50 cal heavy machine gun fires a 12.7x99mm round. The ammunition is powerful enough to punch through a light armored vehicle, and even the hide of a T-103 Tyrant. Ivan had bought it on purpose for a situation like today's, so it could be put to full use.
As expected, the moment the rounds struck, the Tyrant's movements visibly stalled.
Brad flew the helicopter closer to the Tyrant so his teammates could work more easily. And the officer on the machine gun was not about to waste his effort. Bullets rained down on the Tyrant's head like a downpour.
The dense pattern of bullet holes left the Tyrant sprawled weakly on the ground. The successive heavy blows had exceeded the damage it was able to endure.
At that very moment, Alex finished loading the last rocket and pressed the final trigger of his RPG.
"BOOM!"
