Chapter 265: Unicorn Gundam, Vitruvian Bloodline (Patreon)

Hearing Amasawa Ichika's question, Chris turned the Magnetic Field seed over in his fingers, lost in thought.
"Maybe."
"I've got decent talent, no denying that. If I spend a little time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, I could probably reach a respectable realm pretty fast."
"But getting to the point where I can make a world heal itself, or even rewrite its rules at will, before something as big as the final exam arrives? That's still a long way off."
Amasawa pursed her lips, unconvinced.
"Senpai, you're being too modest."
"Once Magnetic Field Rotation reaches a certain realm, the ceiling is set by your state of mind."
"So with time rewind on your side, I'm sure 'breaking your limits' won't be much of a problem for you."
Chris glanced at her and tucked the seed away.
"I'd still have to find the rest of the 'Phoenix's' power first."
"Otherwise, no matter how high my state of mind climbs, it's all just talk without the core fragment."
"That doesn't sound hard, though?" Amasawa giggled behind a smile and offered at once, "Going by what Dr. Tian Mark said, we can just ask the presiding god where the Phoenix's remaining power is."
"With the S Points you're holding right now, Senpai, I'm sure the presiding god would loosen his lips."
Chris mulled it over for a moment and didn't argue.
After all, given how he'd written the presiding god's rules, with a score this high, asking that kind of question really wouldn't be hard.
With that settled, he turned and swept his gaze over the watching girls. "Then I'll go fetch Ryuuen, Ichinose, and the rest?"
"While I'm at it, I'll bring over those two survivors from before. We can't leave them in a world crawling with natural enemies."
Chris looked up at the sky and sighed. "Honestly, this dump doesn't look all that different from that world where humanity went extinct."
Arisu Sakayanagi, along with Suzune Horikita, Chiaki Matsushita, and the others beside her, gave a slight nod of agreement.
In truth, Sakayanagi wasn't much concerned with whether those other-world survivors lived or died.
Instead of bleeding-heart pity, her mind was busy chewing on what Amasawa Ichika had just brought up.
Right. With Chris's talent, training Magnetic Field Rotation probably wouldn't be too hard for him.
Then… as his companion, couldn't she also~
Still, she was a member of the leader class, and some outward decorum had to be maintained.
Just as Chris reversed his grip on the [Enma Blade], ready to slice open a rift in space and leave,
Sakayanagi seemed to remember something. Her gaze drifted toward a courtyard in the distance.
"Hey, Chris-kun."
The girl paused, then said with a smile, "Since this world also needs a large-scale monster purge, like the last one… should we call on the 'Death Devil' to help?"
"If I remember right, she can kill all eight billion people on Earth in an instant, can't she?"
Sakayanagi smiled lightly, as if it were nothing.
"Humans are already scarce in this world anyway. If you move them into the Mountains and Rivers Map for safekeeping beforehand, we can let the Death Devil cut loose here just once."
"Even if she goes berserk afterward, it's not something we couldn't live with."
Listening, Chris couldn't help glancing sideways at Sakayanagi's efficiency-above-all approach.
But before Sakayanagi could finish polishing her "clear-the-field plan," Nanase Tsubasa, standing nearby, couldn't hold back and cut in.
"Sakayanagi-senpai…"
Nanase Tsubasa let out a helpless sigh.
"Sure, Dr. Tian Mark of the Tengong Society doesn't look like he'll interfere much with what we do."
"But the Tengong Society is still an Order-aligned organization, right? Committing mass genocide right under their noses… that really isn't a good idea, is it?"
Suzune Horikita, her pretty face cold, held a different view.
"I think it's fine."
"We're human. Between us and natural enemies that feed on humans, or treat them as playthings, there's a grudge that can never be reconciled."
"And hatred gets settled with hatred."
"Besides, we just got revenge on those aliens who wiped out humanity not long ago. Doing it again in a different world is no big deal."
"The only real problem is that we might not get any S Points."
Seeing Horikita's ruthless, decisive look, Nanase Tsubasa gave a wry smile inwardly.
She was arguing against it precisely because she understood that.
Since the Tengong Society could confirm whether the worlds they'd gone through had "passed the trial" before helping pull them out of the Backrooms,
it was almost certain they had ways of observing those corresponding worlds.
And whatever anyone said, none of them were natives of those worlds.
If they acted purely on personal preference, using "salvation" as a pretext to carry out an extermination in someone else's name… and went too far, they'd inevitably earn the disgust of the watching Tengong Society.
After all, the other side wasn't a pure human supremacist. Why should they sympathize with you over genocide?
Still…
Looking at it from another angle, when the Black Sphere Controller's radar plainly displayed those monsters' kill points and bounty info,
didn't that already make it clear that, in the eyes of the Black Sphere and the presiding god, these things could be eliminated, and should be?
Nanase Tsubasa turned it over in her mind, still unsure where the line was.
But she saw Chris had already swung his blade and stepped into the spatial rift.
Kamuro Masumi, Horikita, and the others were also getting ready to take Hiyori Shiina to collect points from the monsters she'd sealed away with her ability.
Nanase Tsubasa followed the group on instinct.
Kei Karuizawa, trailing behind, noticed the fleeting change in her expression.
She stopped and waited for her for a moment.
Once Nanase Tsubasa caught up, Karuizawa spoke up to comfort her.
"Nanase Tsubasa, you don't need to worry so much."
"Dr. Tian Mark was willing to hand the 'Magnetic Field seed' to Chris ahead of time. In a way, that already counts as acknowledging us."
Nanase Tsubasa sighed, and her tightly knit brows eased a little.
"You're right… I was overthinking it."
Karuizawa wasn't sure her words had helped.
She gave a small laugh and shook her head, continuing:
"Actually, if you really think Horikita and Sakayanagi's ideas are too extreme…"
"As things stand, it's not like we have no other way out."
"If we forcibly separate these thirteen merged natural-enemy worlds, and let the remaining humans pick the safest one to live in, wouldn't that work?"
"Separating worlds, huh…"
Nanase Tsubasa lowered her head and thought for a moment.
"To pull off something like cutting worlds apart… I guess only Chris, using a fully evolved [Enma Blade], could even try?"
Karuizawa's eyes lit up.
"In that case, it's definitely worth trying!"
"Going by the solution hints the Black Sphere and presiding god gave us, for our world to escape the Backrooms' devouring, we'd have to sever the doors connecting to the Backrooms."
"We could use this merged world as practice!"
"…True."
Morishita Ai, who had trailed behind the two without a word, nodded expressionlessly, deciding there was no real harm in trying.
Even if it all went wrong and the world collapsed, so what?
Even if a spacetime turbulence hurled them into some unknown world, the presiding god would most likely fish them back out by force at the final exam.
There was really nothing to fear.
…
Chainsaw Man world, Tokyo in the mortal realm.
Honami Ichinose was, deep down, still worried about how things were going with Chris and Ryuuen.
But with a whole crowd of hungry newcomers around her, she quickly pulled herself together.
As the current leader, she put on a gentle, reassuring smile and led the group to help purge demons in the human world and farm points for the newbies.
As for Miyabi Nagumo of the Student Council,
he had long since taken a group of elites who volunteered for high risk and high reward, and used the "Flying Thunder God" marks planted in Hell earlier to teleport straight down there and farm points.
It couldn't be helped.
The Chainsaw Man world had demons by the countless thousands,
but after Chris's earlier clean sweep, the demon density in Neon had dropped sharply.
Even with Nagumo's team tirelessly slaughtering demons in Hell and driving their reincarnation into the living world,
it was still unrealistic to cover the huge number of points that Ichinose's classmates, old and new, needed to upgrade their gear.
Worse, Denji and Quanxi, two of this world's powerhouses, had joined in this time.
If those two were let loose to cut down demons, newcomers like Chika Fujiwara, who had barely stepped through the Combat Suit's door, would have almost no room to earn points.
So giving the high-level veterans a separate hunting ground in Hell, to divert the meat, was practically inevitable.
Surprisingly, though, Ichinose didn't follow Fūka Kiryūin and Miyabi Nagumo down to Hell this time.
Besides wanting to stay in the living world and look after the classmates whose strength was still modest,
part of the reason was that she wanted to run an experiment.
As for what kind of experiment…
After she spent S Points at the Mysterious Merchant to upgrade the [Love-Love Fruit] and [Gabriel], the two had undergone a kind of beneficial mutation together.
Now she could combine the Love-Love Fruit's own "charm petrification" ability with Gabriel's singing.
That meant she didn't even need a physical attack to touch the target.
Anything that heard her song could be forcibly turned to stone!
But how strong this AOE sound-wave petrification really was, and what level of monster it could affect and to what degree,
Ichinose didn't know yet.
Running the experiment in a place like Hell struck her as too risky, with no guarantee nothing would go wrong.
She never wanted her own gambles to cause trouble for others.
So she'd stayed in the living world.
And there, with a steady stream of low- and mid-tier demons reviving from Hell, Ichinose soon pinned down the ability's limits.
This petrifying song, laced with charm,
basically gave an absolute instant-kill petrification effect only to demons the Black Sphere rated below 50 points.
For demons between 50 and 100 points, it caused obvious slowdown, even a debuff of partial body petrification.
Against elite monsters over a hundred points, the song's petrifying effect was completely useless.
She'd still have to hit them herself, or touch them through some energy medium like light, to trigger the petrification check.
But in Ichinose's eyes, that was already more than enough.
After all, even in a high-danger world like Chainsaw Man, where 200-point monsters run into the double digits,
hundred-point monsters weren't exactly cabbages you could find anywhere.
To crack a hundred, a monster basically had to be on the level of Reze or Quanxi, strong enough to give Chainsaw Man real trouble.
It was no exaggeration to say that Ichinose, with this skill, was now on a Musou-style rampage.
She could float in midair, let out one shout, and lock down a whole crowd of demons.
Whether she let the classmates nearby jump in for the finishing blows or farmed the points herself, either was a fine choice.
Ichinose even found herself wondering quietly:
once she'd saved up enough S Points to push the Love-Love Fruit and Gabriel to their full forms,
could she really petrify a 200-point monster with a single shout?
She was about to farm a few more points, buy new items for the Lady of Clockwork, and then upgrade gear again,
when the space in midair suddenly rippled.
Chris crossed the gap and arrived, walking on the void.
Seeing Ichinose at the head of the group, singing in midair while the freshmen below reaped heads with wide-eyed admiration, he grinned and teased:
"Looks like things are going smoothly on your end."
"The Archangel's flock keeps growing, huh? Even the air smells like a bumper harvest."
"Senpai?!"
Hearing that voice she'd missed so much, Ichinose cut off her song and flew over to him.
She looked at him in surprise. "You're back so soon… Did you find a member of the Tengong Society?"
Chris nodded noncommittally.
"More or less."
"Too bad that doctor from the Tengong Society doesn't seem to want to tell us much about the presiding god."
"But if we bring Oriana along, she should be able to get some new items stocked in her shop."
"Which is at least something."
Ichinose nodded in understanding.
Then she pressed her pale pink lips together, puzzled. "You seem to be in a hurry, Senpai… did something go wrong on your end?"
Meeting Ichinose's worried eyes, Chris gave a soft laugh.
"Trouble? Not really."
"I'm just thinking about whether to take everyone along."
"…Everyone?"
Ichinose was even more confused.
"That's right. Everyone."
Only then did Chris slowly explain.
"While we were using Hiyori's [Rasiel] to look for the Tengong Society, we found that some of the worlds Dr. Tian Mark had been watching along the way are far older than the ones swallowed in the Backrooms."
"When we finally found him, we learned the Tengong Society's philosophy isn't much different from the Black Sphere's, the presiding god's."
"They both give humanity the means to fight monsters."
"But on that premise, if a world's humans can't get through the crisis, they're abandoned as failures."
"Only worlds that manage to kill their natural enemies on their own get real help from the Tengong Society, who then help pull them free of the Backrooms' devouring."
"…"
Ichinose stayed silent for a good while.
After quietly digesting that huge load of information, she took a deep breath and asked, "So… why do you want to take us over there, Senpai?"
Chris smiled.
"The Tengong Society people are bound by rules and can't step in directly."
"But as the Black Sphere's examinees, we're free to cross over and interfere in other worlds' wars."
"So I want to see how the Tengong Society actually separates those worlds from the Backrooms after we help clear their crises."
Ichinose frowned slightly.
A moment later, her brow cleared.
"By your account, Senpai, the Tengong Society won't interfere with us much."
"Then later, if the presiding god won't help solve our world's problem, and even hands us 'separate from the Backrooms' as our final exam task…"
"Going to watch it done once really would be necessary."
"But…"
Ichinose hesitated, looking uneasy.
"Kiryuuin-senpai and Vice President Nagumo are down in Hell farming points with their teams right now. I doubt we can call them back anytime soon."
"Should I gather the classmates and teachers in the living world first?"
"Hell, huh?"
Chris thought it over and nodded.
"Since they can already travel freely between Hell and the living world, they can handle going back and forth between the two places."
"I'll head to the Snowfield world first and bring Ryuuen, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, and the others back. Ichinose, can you organize things here in the meantime?"
"No problem."
Honami Ichinose answered at once, but before her words had faded she added with concern:
"Still, you said you're thinking about taking 'everyone,' Senpai… that really is a problem."
"Is that merged world of thirteen natural enemies very dangerous?"
"It really is."
Chris sighed and told her straight.
"The native humans there have been slaughtered down to a few thousand at most. Everything else is some kind of natural-enemy monster hostile to humans."
"Just the enemies over 200 points number more than ten. The strongest is only on Ishtar's level, close to 300 points."
"If it comes to a real fight, it'd be about like the Holy Grail War not long ago."
"I see…"
Ichinose pressed her lips together and made up her mind right away.
"Then, for everyone's safety, let's do what we did for the Holy Grail War and leave the classmates who aren't strong enough here in the Chainsaw Man world to keep growing."
"With Oriana here now, if they use the points they just earned to update their basic gear, they'll be perfectly safe in the living world. We probably don't even need to keep Kiryuuin-senpai and the others behind to hold the fort."
"Koro Sensei and Denji looking after them should be enough."
Chris thought about it.
"Fine. We'll do it your way."
…
Meanwhile.
The FSF world, Snowfield, America.
In the gap while Chris, Ichinose, and the others had left for other worlds,
Ryuuen, with his body upgrade complete, had completely let himself go.
With the Lion God template's absurd cyber-hacking ability, he quickly took over the world's overt military networks.
Then he went and forged a few orders.
He commanded America and several allied nations around it with well-stocked militaries to ship large numbers of idle or in-service tanks, fighter jets, even aircraft carriers to a firing range he'd designated.
Then.
As soon as the equipment was in place,
he used the [Allspark] to bring all those weapons to life as Decepticons.
With the grinding, metallic roar of mechanical transformation, one walking XP pack after another was served up for him to feast on!
"Hahaha! Awesome! This is what I call self-produced, self-consumed!"
Lasers and missiles flew together.
Cannon fire and lightning sang in chorus~
Whether the poor suckers he'd picked would take the bizarre troop movements for the start of World War III and trigger a global panic…
was none of Ryuuen's business.
With the strength he, Ayanokōji, and Kouenji had now,
he could make it all a done deal before anyone reacted, and showing up to make trouble afterward would be a bit rude.
And the magi lurking in the shadows, hoping to step out and stir things up in defense of secrecy?
After Ryuuen fired a plasma compression cannon and blasted the Hengfeiji magus workshop to dust along with the whole mountain,
every last one wisely fell silent.
The Clock Tower magi, who fancied themselves so noble, clearly didn't dare tear off the mask against a lunatic who ignored all reason.
They didn't want to gamble on whether Ryuuen would just force the Mystery out into public view.
So they could only grit their teeth and tacitly allow his banditry, treating it as a small compensation for Faldeus's sneak attack.
But.
In Ryuuen's eyes, that compensation wasn't nearly enough.
He'd nearly taken a hidden loss earlier.
With his petty, take-vengeance-for-every-glare temperament, there was no way he'd swallow that bitterness.
So Ryuuen had it all planned out.
Once he'd farmed more than half the world's heavy weapons into Decepticons and slaughtered them,
he'd turn his eyes to Spirit Tomb Albion beneath the Clock Tower.
The Clock Tower's lifeblood, its great treasure.
He'd use the corpse of that dumb dragon, supposedly dug itself to death digging a pit, as leverage,
and trade it for things the Clock Tower kept hidden away, like "Mystic Eyes of Jewels" or other powerful concept-level Mystic Codes.
Whether he could use them was a separate matter.
Either way, he'd make these wriggling magi in the dark bleed hard!
If possible, Ryuuen even planned to blow the magi up on his way out, after squeezing out the goods.
Total transparency! A good thing like the Mystery should be known by everyone!
It would also let them learn what it means to lose rice trying to steal the chicken.
What a shame…
Plans never keep up with changes.
Before he'd even reached step two,
"Whoosh!"
Chris tracked him down by the Black Sphere Controller's positioning.
Seeing Ryuuen, Ayanokōji, and Kouenji bombarding wildly in a heap of Decepticons, thrilled as they mowed through the crowd like a Musou game,
Chris had no intention of going down to steal their monsters and points.
He just folded his arms, floated in midair, and called out:
"Ryuuen, is the business in Snowfield settled?"
"If it isn't, I'll go take care of it for you first. We've got a mission coming up, and we probably won't be back in this world for a long while."
Ryuuen raised an eyebrow.
He blasted the three Decepticons leaping at him into scrap with a palm cannon, stepped out of the smoke, and hovered beside Chris.
"What's going on? You're not coming back for a while?"
Ryuuen clicked his tongue in displeasure.
"My plan isn't finished yet, damn it! Ah, my ten-thousand-year grand scheme!"
"Ten-thousand-year grand scheme… are you the Tang God King reborn or something?"
Chris twitched the corner of his mouth and couldn't help the jab.
Then he shook his head and answered seriously.
"I found someone from the Tengong Society. I took on a big job from him. If we finish it, we'll get to watch a whole world break free of the Backrooms."
"That could be useful when we separate our own world."
Chris dangled the bait. "And among those thirteen merged worlds, there's also a robot type that runs on AI computation."
"They evolve on their own through combat… Personally, I think you two might have a real connection?"
"Oh, and that doctor even advanced the reward to me ahead of time."
As he spoke, Chris opened his palm.
A tiny seed crackling with electric arcs hovered above it.
"This is the primal power seed of 'Magnetic Field Rotation.'"
"A million horsepower of output can steadily blow up stars. Reach the final trillion-horsepower realm, and you can even restart time and create universes."
Chris looked at Ryuuen and teased:
"I'm just not sure whether a cyborg like you, with hardly any original meat left, can even train Magnetic Field Rotation."
"Blow up… stars? Create universes?"
Ryuuen stared at the seed and clicked his tongue, a little surprised.
He drew a deep breath.
A flash of struggle and longing crossed his eyes.
But after a few seconds of quiet thought,
Ryuuen turned his head and gave a cold laugh.
"Forget it."
"Even if I could train it, starting from zero on this thing wouldn't do me any good right now."
"I picked my road from the start. I can't switch tracks every time something good comes along, can I?"
"That would just leave me with a half-baked mess that pleases nobody."
"I'll stick with my mechanical ascension… though that evolving robot you mentioned does sound like my kind of thing."
Putting aside his regret, Ryuuen adjusted his mood and went on.
"Oh, right…"
"The Holy Grail War in Snowfield ended not long after you left."
"The moment you took that little girl Tsubaki Kuruoka away, Pale Rider went with her. Then I went over and killed François and that Dumas guy who only makes fake items, one shot each."
"That left only Flat's team on the field. He got the Grail by default, and he's probably gloating somewhere right now."
"It's over already?"
Chris was a little surprised.
"But when I came by just now, nothing looked that different at Ichinose's place. I figured Tsubaki leaving with her Servant wouldn't affect things here. So we basically kidnapped Pale Rider and left him off the books?"
"That's one low-class Grail."
"Who knows? We'll see later," Ryuuen said indifferently.
Chris looked at him and couldn't help a laugh.
"You're giving it up this easily? I thought you'd be reluctant to leave this world's resources behind."
Ryuuen waved a hand and sneered without mercy.
"This world's worth about that much and no more."
"The points I've farmed this round are enough for another full version upgrade for my body, with plenty left to buy high-priced lifesavers from the Mysterious Merchant. No point scrambling for petty gains over some Mystic Codes of unknown origin."
"I'd bet the mission you mentioned won't lack monsters for us to farm points off, right?"
"Otherwise that'd be pathetic."
The corner of Chris's mouth curled.
"Thirteen worlds ravaged by natural enemies, all merged together… if you can kill them all, there'll be more than enough points."
Ryuuen bared two rows of gleaming white teeth.
He turned and bellowed at the two still fighting below:
"Hey! Quit playing around, damn it!"
"You heard that, right? Get ready, we're heading out on a new mission!"
Below, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka and Kouenji Rokusuke answered him bluntly with actions.
"Boom!"
As Kouenji Rokusuke drew a deep breath,
the clouds instantly gathered into an oppressive black, and countless thick golden thunderbolts poured down like a rainstorm!
In the blink of an eye, the two stepped out of the lightning and flashed to their side.
"Let's go."
Ayanokoji Kiyotaka said, expressionless.
Chris didn't dawdle either.
He raised a hand and gripped the [Enma Blade], drawing it from its sheath.
A pale blue blade light cut a cross-shaped rift in the void, and the spatial gate swung open on cue.
Chris sent the three of them into the Mountains and Rivers Map first.
Then he made another solo trip to the Chainsaw Man world.
After confirming Tsubaki Kuruoka was fine and that Pale Rider hadn't returned to the Throne of Heroes, he found Tsubaki had even asked to stay by Ichinose's side.
So Chris casually brought her along with Ichinose, Fūka Kiryūin, and the other main members who had finished resting, as part of the group heading for the world of Natural Enemies War Chronicle.
But.
Everyone being in place didn't mean they could move out right away.
After all, some time had passed, and everyone had their own spoils.
Buying items and upgrading gear was something everyone loved and a big boost to survival odds, so Chris naturally had no reason to disrupt their rhythm.
While the group began exchanging for items and upgrading gear at the Lady of Clockwork's shop, in turn,
Chris took advantage of this rare pre-battle rest to
briefly recount what he'd been through in the Kamen Rider 555 world and the The Courtyard Once Kept Two Chickens world.
After that, the group didn't linger in the Mountains and Rivers Map.
Almost in unison, they agreed to send the Lady of Clockwork to Dr. Tian Mark first, to update the item library.
After all, sharpening the axe doesn't delay the chopping.
One more bit of power meant the whole crew would be a little safer when they entered the new world for the mission, right?
…
So.
After Oriana made a trip to the Gravattack that wore Tian Mark's name and personality,
she came skipping back with light steps.
Honami Ichinose waved to her warmly.
"Liana! You finished that fast? You've worked so hard!"
The Lady of Clockwork gave a small nod.
She walked straight past the others and went to Ichinose's side first.
"Ichinose… you're a good friend, so I'll let you buy first."
Ichinose was taken aback, then laughed helplessly.
But she didn't refuse the offer. She just rubbed Liana's cold little hand and said happily:
"Sure~"
"Then take a good look at what I've earned with all my hard farming lately, Liana!"
"Today, I'll definitely make your little shop a fortune!"
The Lady of Clockwork gave a soft "mm."
The puppet beside her floated up with a twirl, and with a burst of light, projected the updated shop interface in midair.
Chris and the others gathered around.
At a glance,
apart from gacha options like [Random Stand] and [Random Mystic Code] that made gamblers go wild,
and low-value junk like [Tessaiga] mixed in among them that was clearly no use,
the item at the very top of the shelves seized everyone's attention!
