Well, chapter 4 is done and out...

...and it was an interesting release to say the least.

Right off the bat, I'd completely misjudged the interest there would be for people to wait for the moment of release to pledge, or pledge up. I thought I'd be able to handle a few requests manually, but DMs were coming in so fast that I couldn't keep up, and had no choice but to automate the process.

So, pay up front is now active, and although I don't like it for plenty of reasons (not all of them rational), it seems it's the way to go and at any rate, there's no turning it off anymore.

But on the up side, pledges kept coming in and I think up till that point it was the most successful release of a Light of my Life update to date, financially.

But then...

It started to dry out right about the time it was leaked on SVS Comics, one of those scummy sites that tries to milk visitors for faster download speeds. I never paid much mind to those sites. More eyes on the game can only be good, right?

But apparently, they've started to actively pledge to creators with early access, so they can leak on day one, which I assume is quite a lucrative proposition for them: riding the early access buzz to divert funding away from the developer actually making the games and into their own pockets.

Pretty soon after, F95Zone put up the leaked PC version too, which is just how these things work. In a way it's a relief, because every download at F95Zone is money SVS isn't getting their lazy, dirty hands on.

But that was not the end of it. Before too long, someone had put up an Android build with their own Patreon links attached. Someone else was asking support for a crashing, jury rigged Mac version that was cobbled together with bits of the PC version. And God knows what they did to the PC version anyways; I know I wasn't about to give it a spin.

And that's when I decided to just go public here and on F95Zone, and make sure that if a version was out there, at least it was a proper version: tested, working and without any malicious additions.

Does that mean early access is dead?

Maybe? At least like this, I think. I'm not fully decided yet what I'm going to do for the next chapter.

DRM then? Nah. Apart from the fact I'm not a fan (GOG > Steam IMHO), I'm not at all interested in investing the time in implementing it and supporting the inevitable issues that will surely follow.

Macy and Denise have something more to say about it. See the post with the release for version 0.5.2, in which you can find their message right after the end of chapter 4.

In conclusion...

For all the new patrons, welcome and thank you for your support. Sorry I made a bit of a mess of it.

For all the existing and returning patrons, thank you for sticking with me all this time and continuing to support the creation of this game. I am both proud of and humbled by your confidence in me and I'll continue to do my best to be worthy of it.

Appreciate, support, wait :)

Hm... seeing your project misused for some short term egoistic gain is one form of cruel flattery. In the end such sites only deceive their customers.

Groove819

TBH I don't support because I want to get the release early, I support because I want to see this project see its completion , could have no "reward" and would still support.

Ross

Unfortunately, the more popular the game, the more likely it is to be pirated. There's not an easy solution, but hopefully enough people who recognize the quality of your work decide to pledge you as a thank-you, rather than for the early-access part. I believe I originally found you through F95 but once I saw the quality of the game, story, characters, I immediately signed up here to support you. Like others, I don't care about early access, I just want you to be compensated and feel you can afford to keep putting out such high-quality content.

Murkle

Like the others above, I also first found the game on F95, but after playing it I had to also support it. And again, like above I support it because I want it to be finished, and to be as good as it can be. A week here or there doesn't really matter to me. The quality of the game matters. And so far, the quality has been excellent - so I will keep supporting.

C T

Found it on F95 and supported directly after my first play, since the characters are so far above the usuall mindless dolls. Ive been cutting down on projects I support but this will stay funded from me.

Icee

I found you at F95 and was blown away with the game, and knew I needed to support it. Personally, I don't care about early release or any other rewards, I just want to support the game because I love it so much.

TheNobster

I also found it on f95 and instantly fell in love with the story and characters of this amazing unique game :D I of course supported it it via patron from then and have just upped my support to the next tier as it just keeps getting better ^_^

Carlos Mas

I found your game through F95. I fucking love it. I'm latino and I'm really enjoying how I get to name certain things. It would be amazing seeing a Puerto Rican character wink wink.

Stormrider

F95 for me also, love the game and the characters. Keep up the good work.

Raife

F95 for me, too. The site is full of dross, but for me it's the only easy way to identify work like yours that is worth supporting. It may be that early access is impossible to implement because of these annoying pirate sites -- but core patrons like me do not need it as an incentive to support your beautiful artwork. We will support you, regardless.

Jamie Marinoff

I'll always support this game no matter where it's released.

Proffejor

I was content to just leech games from F95, and found this game after a live stream on Gooshi. After hearing about the [string of expletives] who tried to market Light of my Life on android as their own work, in addition to the day one piracy, I decided to go ahead and back on Patreon, so at least some profit comes your way because of this debacle. The game is awesome, the characters are great, keep up the good work. If you decide not to do the early access for Patreons going forward, I understand, and you have my support regardless of how or when updates occur and where I get them from.

Elerneron

I've never liked the idea of early access, personally; neither when I was a developer myself nor as a consumer. If I believe in a project, I will support it. Early access doesn't make me more likely to do so. At the very least it makes me roll my eyes, in extreme cases it can actually make me delay my support (as I did with this project), or not support the project at all. I don't like the idea of holding a project hostage, which is what this practice feels like. I much prefer other incentives like polls, extras and the like. Usually when I'm deciding about the amount I want to pledge it is much less about the perks I get and more about how much I like the project. Just my 2₵.

Keith A

Leaking is inevitable, I am afraid. I would have never heard of this game if it wasn't for F95. How to people hear about games otherwise anyway? However, trying to get money for someone else's work is despicable. Patreon should stamp that out. They should at least make sure that Patreon accounts are for original, not stolen, work. I just pledge what I can afford for the month based on how many developers I am supporting, regardless if there is a release coming out or what tier I am on. I just want to support your great work, so whatever you decide to do with tier awards, it won't affect me either way, nor I suspect most of your fans.

Alleyway

No. No, sir. YOU did not make a mess of things. If you had made Macy and Denise cry again and not given me any delicious moments with them, then yeah, THAT would've been you messing up. But don't apologize for unscrupulous degenerates taking your fantastic work and trying to profit from it. I'd also like to second what Keith A said. I love F95Zone, because it introduced me to all the works I've supported through Patreon. Parental Love, Sisterly Lust, DFD, Radiant (most recently), many others and of course, Light of my Life. If F95 is used properly, it can advertise projects to degenerates with scruples, who will then throw money at those projects to see them completed. And I fully intend to do that here. I'm with you to the end of this, sir. Godspeed, and don't let the scum get you down. EDIT: OH! Almost forgot! Fuck Early Access. Do what you gotta do. I fully support getting whenever you're ready.

Cabal

For what it's worth, I was introduced to the game thru F95 and it was a breath of fresh air, so I decided to support your Patreon, hell my only Patreon currently. I can see how a pack of leech fucks like SVS Comics profiting from your hard work must be deflating and discouraging, but I can see that there's quite a few people that will continue to support you, myself included. Again, for what it's worth. Pa'lante brother, you got this.

wilparu

I am a new supporter only because I finally got around to making an account to support things I truly enjoy without my, uh, name on it. ^^

wilparu

Damn it I always hit enter! LOL. Anyway, I'll be continuing my patronage because this is the best game of it's type I've ever played and I am grateful to you for making it. The writing, the art, the story, it's all just about perfect IMO. I totally understand the effort on your end and the disappointment with other less scrupulous folks using your labour to enrich themselves but that's just another reason for me to consider this level of support locked in until the story is done. Thanks for your work, and thanks for your extra work in this administrative stuff you do! It's not fun I'm sure but it's appreciated.

Burford1975

Friend wilparu speaks my mind...

Delray Lyndhurst

This is, hands-down, the best game out there--in a class of its own. I am a long-time F95 user, and I pledge where the craft is good. You shall have my pledge!

jpostel

I became a Patron after finding the game on F95. One of the decent things about f95 is they link to the Patreon for every game. Once you filter through some of the idiots, the ratings/criticisms of stories and games are pretty good.

SYH

Maybe AAAAAH should pay the fine folks at SVS Comics a visit...

Mr Puzzler

Just like jpostel, I found your amazing game on F95. And I am so glad I did. Your story is one of the best I've come across in the last few years of playing most of the ones available. I honestly care about these characters, and the struggles they are going through. I look forward to all updates to come. Thank you!

AWB13

I'm probably in the minority here, but I did not come across your amazing game via F95. I found it pretty much via the word of mouth on Patreon. You know, going down that rabbit hole of one link to another. Probably a bit clumsy that way, but I did eventually stumble onto Light of my Life, which is a good thing. It's been fantastic btw, I've really enjoyed it. Wasn't sure what to make of the younger roomy, but I'll just say she's an absolute ball of fire & has quickly become my favorite!

Steve

Like a few of the others I found this game on F95 like I do most games, If I find it worthy I support it

Viking

I love your game, the basic storyline itself is maybe not very original, but the twists you put in it, and the graphics make this game a completely new experience for me, it's so visual different, and I love that. I also love the humor in it, and that you are able to create unique personalities in every girl in the game, I think I downloaded an earlier version/chapter of the game from F95, and went on to check you out on Patreon after enjoying the game, and then went on to be a Patreon.

Derp McDerp

Did find this not on F95, but on another free site and had to sub, I love the content. Sucks that people are trying to hurt the experience.

Anthony

My english is 0 im french

Anthony

When your future update???? Your game is M.A.G.I.C FANTASTIC

Rick F Romero

I love this game and characters i said this in another comment but realize it was for a different game so im saying it here thanks for the great game.
