A small update for chapter 7

Reduce image cache size on desktops from 700 MB to 500 MB to help with crash reports for some users.

Reduce image cache size on Android to 300 MB (ren'py default) to help with Android players who are able to run the game but are having stability issues.

The above will probably not fix the issue some have reported about not getting past the load screen, that is still under investigation.

Removed 32 bit support for desktop users. Sorry if you're using that, I'm just getting too many reports about crashes and instability for that version. If you really want to use it, grab 0.7.0, and just drop the game folder from 0.7.1 into that, that should work, but if you're experiencing stability issues, note I can't support you with that.

Typos fixed and minor dialog changes.

Note on virus scanner alerts

I've gotten reports about some virus scanners (specifically McAffee) quarantining the executables (not just for Light of my Life but other recent ren'py games as well). It seems to be a heuristic trigger (e.g. not a virus signature) setting it off, and it seems to have to do with ren'py writing its saves in AppData. In my opinion, it's a false positive, do with that as you will.

Thank you for the update. Is it possible to have a patch instead of having to download over 7 Gb again just for the fix?

Naughty Road

It's a painstaking job separating out all the individual changed source files, so not really. I've had the request before so I'm gonna find out if there's any tooling to easily create deltas for this kind of stuff.

"The above will probably not fix the issue some have reported about not getting past the load screen, that is still under investigation." If it's the problem I'm having I think 7.1 added some necessary DirectX 11 stuff that won't work properly without a good gpu? I don't have a gpu so any newer Ren'Py games just fail for me - by which I mean they load a "Graphics Setting Screen" which allows me to 'tweak' graphic settings, but no tweak actually allows the game to ever load.

Marcus

Sorry, it's Ren'Py 6.13 and later that's adding the OpenGL and Direct X 'needs a gpu" stuff, but I'm not seeing the Problem Screen until a game is using 7.4, generally.

Marcus

You copypasta'ed your Subescribestar links again Naughty.

Naughty Road

Oh gods, fixing that now. Text from subscribestar used to be easier to copy to patreon that the other way around because you don't need to fix the formatting, but with this new redirect in there, that's really out the window.

Naughty Road

Right. LomL used to be on 7.3.5, and I had to move to 7.6.1 because of caching errors that I couldn't work around, so that explains a lot. I think initially, they didn't require GL2 but included it as opt in, but in the latest versions it's turned on.

Will save files from 7.0 be ok with the update? Or am I going to have to restart again?

Maruad

I am assuming I can use 7.0 without downloading the patch. I will find out soon enough.

Marcus

Well, I played around a bit and I managed to get Ver 6.4.4 to load using 7.0's game files, but something keeps the game thinking it ends at the end of chapter six, so it loads the files (begrudgingly, it 'yells' at me about incompatible mods) but something internal is hard locked on chapter 6's ending ... and I'm a total Ren'Py nubbins so I have no idea what 'switches' to flip to unlock it. Okay, I've been holding off, I guess it's finally time I upgraded this old potatoe and put a gpu you in it, or just got a compy that isn't over twenty years old. Between your game, Heavy5's visual upgrade, and wanting to play Cyberpunk 2077... it's time.

Troy

Shoot, I was replaying the game through chapter 6 leading up to this, but then uninstalled it to make room for the new version; I had just assumed that since the previous version had worked on my device, so would this one. Is there any way to re-download the chapter 6 version in the meantime?

Tip for the Workupload PC/linux links: Create a file called "LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.sha256" and put this into it: 090b3483ad9cbbb126a74dd3a9d4630c3dea57218a7b305eb923ece3b4ebd37d LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.zip.001 e41f71a17cb3791f08634bed7d58695bcb4d294699ed1ae41f92269f6d28f533 LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.zip.002 23f09ed7f1ba87e9852a4feac8f6fe16b45bc9a51dfabdec9d8528d7faef5e13 LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.zip.003 8be86883f07b183cc04807398c68cdf08777f6160c583ee904e32d2d9b934bd7 LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.zip.004 74492febaf930bf9d4f6eb93600129f04aab669f2cf63791cd47f8f358737072 LightofmyLife-0.7.1-pc chuncked.zip.005 Many downloader-plugins and local checksum tools or Explorer alternatives like Total Commander can use that file to verify your download was not corrupted. I just copy/pasted the SHA256 checksums they provided and compiled a list myself. You can do the same for Mac or Android if you want to.

Naughty Road

Should be okay. One scene in particular near the end of chapter 7 had some code shuffled around so you might see an issue there, but you can always pick up an earlier search and fast forward if you happen to have the misfortune of having a save smack in the middle of that.

Naughty Road

There's some tweaks in there, if you notice it thrashing memory, you should switch, but since you're running BG3 I assume you will be fine. There's minor changes to dialog in 0.7.1, but nothing earthshattering.

Maruad

Sounds good. I had downloaded it just before I had left for the weekend and didn't want to have to do any more downloading before I started.

Troy

Thanks!

Naughty Road

Updated android version now in place. See the blog post a little above this one.
