Things are getting very RUvealing on the runway. Let’s get into it. Gagging the audience is always the goal when on stage, and a reveal is the perfect way to switch the vibe, get naked, or completely wow the audience. Reveals are meant to look simple and easy, but they’re actually incredibly tedious and nerve wracking for the performer. I have spent my entire drag career TRYING IT and wanting to do the most I am capable of while on that stage. I’ve never been much of a dancer, gymnast, or death dropper, so instead of attempting to do these classic drag moves, I’ve focused more on seamless reveals. Reveal Do’s Use snaps. Snaps in my opinion are most reliable and just more professional. Make sure the first look into the second look is gag-worthy enough from each other. Nothing worse than a boring reveal. Time out the reveal to a specific moment in your track, and ideally in a place where you know it’s guaranteed to have all eyes on you. Reveal Don’ts Don’t rely on velcro, zippers, safety pin, or hook and eyes for quick seamless reveals. Don’t try and take skirts, pants, shorts off by pulling them down to your ankles and stepping out. This always looks messy and amateurish. Don’t start with a graduation robe. Dear God please don’t start with a graduation robe. Don’t let your reveal look be visible until it’s meant to be. Don’t look down. Face the audience. Did I get it right? Did I miss something? Tell me what I need to get a closer look at in the comments. Let’s get into it… from head 2 toe. xoxxxo
