Mr. Mercedes starts with a young mother and her suckling baby getting run over by a car, Thinner the husband ends his curse and deliberately passes it to his "bitch" of a wife, Duma Key he has a vision of his wife having a threesome with three other guys and feeling bad about it, in the dark tower series the black woman is the only one to survive but her life included a brick getting dropped on her head as a kid and she lost her legs oh and she also has to defeat a monster by fucking it harder than it fucks her, there are THREE SEPARATE BOOKS where a woman is thrown down a well, also Mr Mercedes a woman dies by carbomb. Also also Mr Mercedes I think the antagonist kills his mom and sleeps with the corpse, another young mother dies toward the end of another book during a drive-by. And this is all just off the top of my head

I've only been reading King for about a year and he's a really great author but yeah, he's definitely a "man of his time", remember he was born in 1947. I do think he represents women better than other male authors of his time, not that it says much, but I think he was exploring the horrors of being a woman and the atrocities against them in a time when authors and audiences did not. To piggy-back on what you were saying, King gets so weirdly sexual at the wildest times, not just regarding women. Like I will read what is a masterfully crafted chapter and then the last two lines are like "Then the witch stole the boy's semen". Like where is the editor lmao. Very mild spoiler for Wizard and Glass (Dark Tower #4): Specifically, the scene where Susan first goes to the witch to prove her purity is great; That's a thing that really happened and it explored the fear, embarrassment, stoicism, ect. of a young girl being traded like cattle and then it's soiled with his over-sexualization.

I do ketamine therapy for depression and some anxiety, and you guys are spot on about how ridiculous it is that you can trip balls an somehow be less anxious. It’s bizarre. I can’t even handle weed, and I’ve never done psychedelics before my therapy. Sometimes I end a session very relaxed, and simultaneously think “that was horrifying”.
