I did recently have a realization of how almost untranslatable the insane popularity of Harry Potter is to people who never lived through it. How do I explain to kids that I dressed up as Dobby to go to the midnight release at Barnes and Noble for one of the Harry Potter books? How do I explain that selling one of those books before release day could end a mom and pop bookstore? How do I explain I saw physical fights between teenagers about spoilers about the new books?

So yeah, I live in Raleigh, NC where Epic's head office is and 200+ people there are gone. A few days before that is when Ubisoft shutdown Red Storm(my girlfriend works/worked for them so she was laid off along with 100+ people). Not a fun week here in NC for the gaming industry.

I was a little too young for the height of harry potter hysteria but I was OBSESSED as a kid. Like wizard dueling during recess, write fake essays with quill and ink in my best friends "ravenclaw commonroom" basement, wear handmade robes and uniforms to the release of the last film type obsessed. Still by the time jkr started "accidentally" retweeting terfs I had long been over it because harry potter simply isn't that good. Ursula K Le Guin was 100% right!
