On net-zero, CCP nanny state, and optimised dating.

We start off discussing the HBO series "The White Lotus" before tackling three articles on middle-class anxieties: climate change and pressures on UK living standards; the Chinese state's crackdown on private tutoring; and women's attempt to avoid crappy men through 'Female Dating Strategy'.

One of the most insightful discussions of the CCPs gaming ban I've come across - great stuff guys

My God, everything was tilted in favor of men and all I did was find a long-term partner and get married. I'm such a loser.

George watching regional detective dramas is so on-brand. Love it! On a more serious note, would love to hear a Bunga discussion on climate politics. This episode sort of circled around the concept of a ‘just transition’. Then there’s been some comments about the politics of fear re the climate and extractivismo discourse in LA from G and A, respectively…

About the Female Dating Strategy community. I share Phil's fascination, however, I think he got caught by only an aspect of the phenomenon. I spent a bit of time browsing the principal subreddit as well as their question and answer subforum. It's quite clear to me that this community contains a pretty virulent strain of elitism and a lot contempt for those deemed "Low Value Males" (which is a very large category in and out of which any potential partner can go at the drop of a hat), it goes beyond having stricter standards. One also cannot help but notice after looking through the comments and posts of given users that there is a large performative element to their interactions, I think for a lot of them posting there is a coping mechanism.

Don’t think your take on wind and nuclear is quite that perceptive. Cost of nuclear is incredibly high and the planned nuclear plant in England has blown its budget multiple times. With large enough grid wind is fairly reliable and can be up to 80 of energy supply

It seems the bigger question of how and what government subsidizes.

Wind turbines everywhere is an absolutely hideous future. It’s at the point where environmentalist thinking no longer thinks in terms of protecting nature. When all environmentalism is through the ideological prism of climate change, the environment itself is elbowed out.

I'm totally here for Bunga going Red Scare

RE: the dating article: please bring Eva Illouz on the pod.

Seems there’s something with modern dating that % young men can’t find a gf and then women in 30s are also left scrambling. Wonder if there is a dating app equivalent of the game for young men now.
