On Germany's election this week.

Merkel has led Germany since 2005, outlasting any number of politicians across the West. What accounts for her longevity? How has such a non-ideological, post-political figure lasted so long?

Germany is finally leaving her motherly embrace. But why is continuity on the cards, despite the many global crises Germany has passed through?

The hand sign thing could be a womb. But it strikes me that not knowing what to do with your hands as a politician is a very German problem to have. An Italian would just use their hands for speaking!

One more point in favour of a traffic light coalition: both the SPD and the Greens have more or less all but excluded a red-red-green (or maybe Transnistrian?) coalition with the Left party, which would be the main alternative to the traffic light and probably the least bad option.

our Canadian election of less consequence than the German election: OK not an opinion worth disagreeing with ... citing Berlusconi on Angela Merkle not to mention the nature of the quote: major disappointment guys ... grifter pal of Gaddafi / Lukashenko / Netanyahu / Putin ... sad sack ephebophiliac ... convicted fraudster ... you know just your dirty old man trope / small man syndrome / whinging criminal walking around with an opinion on somebody smart enough to be in the same room as this conniving lowlife and his peers and come away with whatever she wanted ... you two asking how could this possibly be: the most successful politician and leader of the most important country in the EU a woman a feminist a 21'st century paladin ... because mother figure and womb like hand gesture - come on boys put on your grown up pants and do better ... in contrast to this major misstep the discussion in general and your guest were as interesting and informative as usual - you didn't publish your guest's name in the description - wish you would ...

Interestingly, the Greens have arguably become the most hawkish party on Russia and China now due to their liberal internationalist ideals as well as their opposition to natural gas etc. that the more realist oriented conservatives support.
