Before ChatGPT, before Grok… there was ELIZA.

She asked simple questions, but somehow, she made people feel seen. Some even fell for “her”.

I’m just trying to find out how. You know, typical Velma stuff 🔎

Did Eliza even predate Alexa and Siri, too? Just saying. ;)

JINKIES, for sure! 🧡 🔍 Using the rhyming convention of the original Scooby episodes, this installment would have been titled “It’s No Jive, Eliza’s Alive!”

Don't wanna start a flame war or wake up some nasty trolls, here. But, my personal opinion is that what we now commonly refer to as AI is just a variation on the Eliza trick. Technically, there is no more elegance in AI than there is in a brute force attack that requires no hacking skills. It is essentially a statistical tool based on an inconceivable volume of digital data and an indecent consumption of resources. And, although there is no real intelligence in AI, the subterfuge is so effective (I admit that I am often fooled myself) that even some of its original creators are beginning to believe in the possibility of a singularity. But, in truth, we are stuck in a model that can only imitate collective intelligence without any real capacity for reasoning, let alone innovation. However, unlike Eliza, current AI is a very powerful tool when it is supervised and specialized.
