I've not watched Off Campus but I'm under the impression that the main reasons the two shows are being compared is the hockey setting and the raunchier than average sex scenes. Apart from that I fail to see how they could be anything alike. There's a reason Heated Rivalry has done so well, and believe it or not the sex is only a small part of it. I guess you will see as you go along how the show develops, and I'll gladly follow along on that journey :)

Welcome to the HR journey. The time jumps are because they live in different cities and do not see each other except for three or four times each season when they play against each other, or during an All Star Game. It IS a slow burn, but on a emotional level. They are clearly physically attracted to each other. But navigating the emotional involvement in the context of their careers and hockey culture is the major challenge that they face.

Thought I'd share that Shane's character is autistic! This is never explicitly stated in the book or show, but it is important to understanding his character. The author Rachel Reid, the director and creator of the show Jacob Tierney, and Shane's actor Hudson Williams have all confirmed that that was an intentional character choice for the character. The only reason it's unacknowledged within the story itself is because Shane is undiagnosed. Hudson took a lot of inspiration for his performance from his own autistic father. Going forward you might notice some of these traits in Shane like the flat affect on his voice, the way he struggles to make eye contact sometimes, the way he struggles with processing his emotions, sometimes not reading the room or responding too literally, his attachment to routine and rules (like how he folds his clothes), etc.
