I think Alex has issues around people dating her mom. She's very possessive of her, and seems to resent Abby in part for having "intruded" on their family. So Tricia "betrayed" Alex by dating her mom behind her back, and Elise "betrayed" Alex by starting a new relationship when it should just be the two of them. And worst of all, they kept it a secret, which means they *knew* Alex wouldn't approve and did it anyway.
