Finally someone who doesn't HATE Riley!!! I think he is a great representation of the semi-normal life Buffy can't have. (Knowing nothing about the show beyond gifsets on tumblr, I went into Buffy fully expecting to ship Spuffy, but I instead fell in love with Angel and I did NOT like Spike and Buffy) Suggestions for the next franchise: Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars (Logan supremacy, not sorry), Gilmore Girls (I'd love to hear the takes. If Dave or Luke doesn't win I *will* riot), Firefly. (True story, I've been rewatching GG and when they mentioned Doyle I was like "wait... that's not his name on Buffy" 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Baldur's gate has to be any gender though cos they need to talk about Lae'zel. Goddamn I adore her. So my first playthrough I was bad. I was a bard who basically could do *nothing* so I relied heavily on her as a fighter. But I didn't care about her story. Didn't do any gith stuff (mainly cos I didn't find it. I was going in blind). So by the time the final cutscene rolls around and you get the wrap up to all their stories and it gets to her I was very like 🤷 stay, go IDC And then she hits me with basically "I want to stay here. With my friends." And my heart just fucking melted I romanced the shit out of her on my next playthrough (obligatory fuck Gale lol) and haven't looked back

It's definitely better to binge. I watched it a couple years ago and my roommate at the time kept trying to ruin it for me though so it might just have been that in had to binge.

I think Wesley was the first time I really was able to identify and articulate what a good character arc in a tv show was. Like I’d seen it done before, but I wasn’t interrogating why the character’s personal growth and journey was interesting and effective. To be fair, I’d mostly just watched sitcoms, and at the time most characters were fairly static (or just got more flanderized over time). But Wesley made me realize how a character I hated could actually recognize their own internal state and work to change it through their own choices and not just by reacting to external events. And not just by becoming some flawless person; he still struggled and made mistakes, and the journey was quite rocky at times, but his transformation was so remarkable and earned. He went from my least favorite Buffy character to my favorite character in the Buffyverse, and a top character in all fiction for me. Like these guys I can’t even think of his last scene in Angel without getting a bit emotional.

At present, Giles is the only age appropriate one for me, as I'm now older than Anthony Head was when Buffy started. However, at the end of Angel Wesley was a little older than my fiancé is now... So either Giles or Baby Giles would be my pick. At the time Buffy was being made, I thought Seth Green was a cutie so I would have picked him. But as an adult I want someone I can buy a house with and have a whole room of floor to ceiling bookshelves full of fascinating books. And a realtor friend of mine actually showed a client around a house where they found a hidden door in the back of a closet that opened on a hand-dug staircase into a creepy basement that was absolutely not supposed to be there. (One bare light bulb and a toilet in the corner. Clearly crimes had happened.) So I know there's at least once house in my area where any dangerous books on magic and such could be stored safely. Although there is a case to be made for a basement dungeon as containment for a werewolf.

Yeah the males only scope limits them for some franchises. I think BG3 has 4 male companions. Though they can do like they did here in Buffy and add in more side male characters, like the Emperor, the lead Tielfling guy, etc
