Love Borderlands 2 btw

Smidazzle

Love my safe spaces 🙏 and thank you Anthony for making the space more safe with the changed intro

Wizardpower700

I respect wills choice what makes this podcast unique is the in fighting with the party and I'm happy that's staying.

Michael Purscell

Will made the only rational choice. We went from not knowing who the bad guy is to being pressed into irreversibly joining them, and Anthony was surprised?

Robert Snitchler

I was having the same visceral reaction to the Scupter as Will.

Snake River Bushcraft

I love hearing how 'tism heavy this cast is. I feel represented. Not sure if it's good though. /jk Lol

Michael Purscell

Theater kids are nerds to everyone who isn’t a nerd

Madahoochi

Long time fan, infrequent typer. Slam on Community… hell no!! After season 1, what?! 2 is great, 3 is the season that got me into the show. If you would’ve said Season 4, okay. But damn, ya’ll. 😢.

Nobi Wolff

The Witch's Throne is my rpg hill to love

THE FIRST LAW IS MY JAAAAMM THOOO

It would be a cool rule to add a 6 Sec communication action each player has each round. Each player announces they are using their 6 second comms action and then performs the action while the DM does 6 Mississippi's or something

Red vs blue button is just an iq test. 100% chance of living vs not 100% chance of living. Everyone can press red. Everyone can live. It's the same as "I'm throwing myself out of the lifeboat that has unlimited space so there is enough room for others". Who is that for? Are we assuming that people won't understand the choice and that's who needs to be saved? Is it for the people who want to take their own lives? If we assume everyone does understand the choice, then those who want to live will live.

Jarrade Nieber

He who fights monsters is a fun litrpg

Bearonavirus

Damn not the guys gatekeeping Beth from being called a nerd lol

Peliquinn

I'm pressing blue.

Nick Berre

Dungeon crawler carl is peak

Sean Willard

Actually needing a safe space today. Jokes aside, thank you Anthony.

Elepherim

Duet audio books are awesome!!

SnorlaxthePanda

Young Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a much closer look alike for Anthony than Alex Karp haha. I’m not see Alex Karp at all

Lucas Weymann

Love the book talk near the end, especially the mention of Dungeon Crawler Carl! Dunno who'll actually pay attention to this but I can wholeheartedly suggest the Cradle series by Will Wight. It's basically a Western take on Wu Xia, Eastern power progression fantasy. Cool expansive power system with a ceiling that seems constantly rising, and there's even an animatic of the first book on YouTube that's supported by the author. The audiobook narrated by Travis Baldree is probably the best way to enjoy it.

Patrick T

It's interesting to hear the critique of dungeon crawler Carl when they do something so similar. They literally talk about stats increasing.

Robert Watson

Dungeon Crawler Carl recently got a massive boost in advertisement in the UK, I was drawn to the 1st book in the series at my local Waterstones and I absolutely loved it. Ive struggled to get back into reading since I left college nearly 6 years ago, but this has been a super interesting series in my opinion. Looking forward to the completion of their kickstarter on the 2 game systems 👌

Gabi Marler

Quarter Sheets pizza may be mid, but their Swedish Princess cake is legit one of the best desserts in LA!

Shaun_qb

The team fighting over shooting the Sculptor felt very real, so I for one enjoyed it. I thought the escape sequence and the real risk of a TPK added to this episode being one of my favorites

Traumagotchi

This is an interesting take because the basis of your assumption is "everyone understands the ask", then go on to defend choosing the only button with any potential loss. My initial reaction was if the button appeared in front of everyone, there is a large portion of people who would not inherently understand the question (toddlers, disabled, etc) and as such the obvious choice would be blue to help protect those who do not understand Quite an interesting question, and I enjoy seeing other's thought process on this

Hannah!

echolalia is also common with autistic folk too!! i think the difference between echolalia and just saying silly things repetitively is how frequent it is!

KeikoPin Cosplay

as a fork dipper salad consumer, this episode delights me lol

Hannah!

yeah like huh? i think she’s as much as a nerd as them even if it’s different

withinmyself

Wow, I wholeheartedly disagree with these opinions of the audio book version of Project Hail Mary. I can't even wrap my head around what the fuck Matt and Freddy are talking about here, and I'm usually on the same page with all the daddies. I've read the book, listened to the audio book twice, and I've seen the movie twice. My favorite version is the audio book. I think the voice actor did such an incredible job. That's just my two cents :) I just wanted to give another perspective in case someone is interested in the audio book. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but it is not as immediate of a hell no, as Matt and Freddy are saying.

Dalton

I really like your take and the logic. If the context is as you describe, then I think I would press blue. However, I think that any moral question that requires babies, children, the physically incapable, or the mentally ill to press the button, doesn't work. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't most moral questions assume competence from the person making the choice? A baby isn't pulling the trolly lever, for example.

notcasserole

Quick question. If the minds in the hive can mold the sculptures bodies to whats they want, why cant they be human. Also, wouldnt the dads no longer be human and lose the stealth, and the entire reason the sculpter wanted the grandads to join the hivemind?

Big Ballz McGee 9001

I have a question, if the gang joined the hive mind and became squishy luminous guys, would Ralph still have cancer? (Or whatever is killing him on the down low)

James Edward Antley IV

Crazy to me that people think their pizza is mid. It's definitely some of the best in LA. Princess Cake is awesome too

B. J. Boyd

Dungeon Crawler Carl works mostly because it’s satirizing video RPG tropes. I don’t think it would be enjoyable if it were presented as a serious story.

BullgogiFrankie

Jeeze they talk about stuff they don’t like a lot… the amount big bang theory and family guy comes up is crazy. Also trashing litrpgs without having read any is a wild take too. It’s cool if stuff isn’t for you but then why spend so much time on it?

gerg bergles

If the granddaddys ever tpk you should make them play as their significant others. We would find out cookie faked her death to live with the editor

Brett Smith

Oooof. Look, I LOVE my daddies… but you gotta pay the daddy tax. And that rant about DCC, IM APPALLED. Genuinely though, I’m sure there’s a huge crossover of Daddies fans and DCC fans. Honestly some of the bits, the heart, the insane bad guys, reminds me a lot of Borderlands and thus Anthony’s play style. But come on daddies…don’t slam my boy Carl. That entire series is genuinely beautiful and fun.

Mac_Enby

'Dick Me Down Big Ralphy' lives rent free in my head still to this day.

Nolan

LOVE the Sagan / Smith mashup

Raine Reacts

I started watching movies because of your podcast, you make so many movie references that I don’t get so I have a massive list of movies that I’m working my way through of movies that you have referenced/raved about including LOTR and 2001 SO BUT I’ve finally come across one I HAVE seen, PHM was amazing!!!

Coreythosaurus

As a boy with long hair who went to catholic school and somehow survived I appreciate your closing beth

UnicornCommander

DCC isn't an isikai because the Dungeon is still technically on earth

John Squirrel

Dungeon Crawler Carl is incredible

Shaun_qb

It is funny to hear them describe Lit RPGs and say how boring that sounds when it's legit the same as listening to a D&D podcast

Lexie Carr

Ditto, Community is my favorite show of all time. But hey this is a safe space. I still love you Daddies 😘

McCrunchy _

Everyone on earth finds themselves in separate, identical rooms with a button in front of them and an open door behind them. They are informed that in 3 minutes, the ceiling will collapse, killing them instantly, unless over 50% of people press the button. Instead of pressing the button, you may leave through the door and ensure your safety. What do you do?

Milk Man

You forget that in the basis of the question every single person gets the button, including young children, elderly people etc. and I just think most parents would pick blue, my mother would never pick red thinking I or my sister would have picked blue and thus being part of the side sentencing me to death, so I would pick blue. Just because game theory suggests red, it's not just a question of game theory it's a philosophical question about the whole of society. And my parents would pick blue, so I would aswell, along with all the small children who just like the colour blue more than red

Fern

Freddy saying "man" like 10 times when they were talking about the most dangerous animal cracked me up so much.

Toasty

I don’t think that was a dig at the quality but the insane levels the show went to post-season 1. There’s a reason they opened with “We’re Gonna Finally Be Fine”

Shannon

I hate to break it to you, but dipping your fork in the dressing is a diet tactic. 😅

Aimee Biggerstaff

Y'all always talk about what people hated about seasons etc..those folks aren't right. Don't listen to the trolls

Darin Duryee

pizza ranch has the ability to have both good salad and pizza but one thing to consider what if you have a good garden salad good with ranch and to have low carb with the taste of good pizza put the toppings of buffalo chicken pizza(no onion) and put it on the salad. O question has anyone done the pizza Hannibal Lecter pull the topping off one pizza slice and put it on another for double toppings?

Jayehes

It’s funny how they’re like “I don’t want to read/listen to someone getting stat points” when talking about Dungeon Crawler Carl when that’s literally what listening to a D&D podcast is

Taco Dragons

Rafferty's. Best salads ever

Shane Bierbaum

Is it messed up if I would push the red button for the soul. Hope the housing prices might come down

Taco Dragons

Really Freddie? I loved the audio book. I listened to it on like 2x speed cause he talked so slow but the accents were perfect I felt. And the whole vibe. Idk just me I guess.

Cody Moriah

My family refers to echolalia as "echolabia", because my mom mispronounced it once and now it's tradition :)

John

I don't even want to answer the red button blue button question. I want to discuss the bigger picture behind it. We're assuming with that question that we have a full understanding of all of the cultures in the world and how they would all respond, and that's just not true. Inherently we can only really answer it based on our own personal culture. And I think that's a blind spot we don't talk about enough

Lula Hiigel

Sunshine is my all-time favorite space movie, and it’s a fucking tragedy that not only is it super out of print on blu ray, but most of the copies that DO exist don’t work properly on modern players. If any movie deserves the 4K/Theatrical Re-release treatment after Speed Racer, it’s Sunshine.

ManicPixie

LISTEN TO DCCARL AUDIOBOOK!!!!!!!!!

ManicPixie

Piece of paper was echolalia 🤭

Saucey McBurgerpants

Dick me down big Ralphie has been a staple of my audio stims since it was said

FARTICUS

When I first tried Dungeon Crawler Carl I had very much the same attitude as Matt, like litRPGs sound cringe, but I was embarraingly wrong, just as Matt is. I really hope they do try the new DCCRPG and I hope they give the audio book a try too cause it is incredible

Bex Boster

I think Freddy asking "Is this thing on" is one of the funniest things I've ever heard 🤣

Benjamin P Parson Gomberg

“I’m Carl Sagan and I would’ve stopped 9/11” would be a great character intro quote to a scientist-based fighting game I’m desperate to play

Jacob

Terrible community take will

Jacob

I think that herb is clearly less forgivable. Scary’s a teenager. Herb’s had his entire life to see through the bullshit and hes actively choosing to join the bad guy. Tony pepperoni’s death was unforgivable though

Linnea Lindstrom

I never would have dreamed I’d enjoy LitRPG, but Dungeon Crawler Carl is one of my all-time favorite series now!

Danny Baker

Fun fact! More people have died due to communism than capitalism. By a lot.

Marlowe Holmes

I had two thoughts about the villain after this episode and it was exactly what will thought and "Is this what Anthony thinks" and its hilarious to see both confirmed even if Anthony is joking.

Dalton

Your parent example is emotionally understandable, but it is circular: “I pick blue because my parents might pick blue because I might pick blue." That's sinply fear of hypothetical non-cooperation. Also, saying “small children might pick blue because they like the color” is not an argument for blue. If toddlers and people incapable of informed consent can determine who lives or dies, then the question is no longer a clean moral question about society’s values. Another thing I would like to point out(unrelated to your argument) is that the people advocating for red are saying things like "Everyone can live" not press red and let blue die.

Josh Christopher

Matt, I challenge you to a Debate Me, Coward! episode where I convince you that The Rise of Skywalker is a great movie.

FilmWonk

Cherish may eat her salad as she wishes, of course, but my preferred utensil(s) for specific salad-bite ingredient balance and dressing spread is chopsticks.

Joshua Bliesner

I think we got into the mind of Anthony from the porno he wrote 🤣 loved the episode guys

Righter

The marketing geniuses at Dn'Daddies: "Wow, I hope the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG collabs with us!" ** Proceeds to shit on DCC and insult its fanbase for 15 minutes straight lmao

Invader Jimm

It's very funny to hear them lightly bashing the idea of reading other people playing D&D on a Podcast where we all just listen to them play D&D lol

mentallo

I don't know if Terri and Herb are a fair comparison. Terri had a book detailing all Willie's horrible past, how he kiddnapped the kids and all the terrible things he did to the Daddies, and she set him free to murder a man they knew for years. Herb had a -moment- where he considered changing sides, and ultimately didn't. Still a bad turn for Herb, but he didn't betray the team.

ikkunaprinssi

matt describing ryland grace's glasses as 'slutty little glasses' KILLED ME

Red button all the way

Allison Kist

I’ve been waiting soooo looooong for this adhd talk

Allison Kist

in adhd fashion, I spoke too soon. That didn’t last nearly long enough and yall didn’t even *mention* Freddy 😂

S.S. Beyoncę

The grandad fact call back from this episode was god tier 😂🛟

S.S. Beyoncę

YEESSSS!! The book is probably my favorite book of all time! Like Matt said, it is pretty science heavy. So if that’s not your cup of tea just know that going in. If there was one thing I would change about the movie I would add in more science, but I get why they didn’t. Most people don’t find math and science entertaining 😅

S.S. Beyoncę

Also, ROCKY MY LOVE!!!! Best character ever, I cried because of that rock like 5 times 😂

Crash Panda

Me, after listening to this episode and going to feed my dog. "Why don't we... have a dog? Why don't we... have a dog?!" Thanks, Matt.

nico

CHERISH, so nice to know there’s someone out there who matches my freak (fellow fork dressing dipper) 🤝

antirust620

Matt “I’d rather have malaria though, so you can get treated” Arnold

James Carter

Did someone say terribly recorded audio books? The Dune audio book is both single narrator aaaand a voice cast and it jumps between the 2 different styles randomly by chapter. I guess they ran out of money part way through and had to pivot to finish the recording. I listened to it on a road trip and thought I was going crazy

Wyatt Elom

I love watching the movies the dads recommend and reference on the show. I watched 2001 Space odyssey, air force 1, my neighbor totoro, and some others and super glad i watched them to understand the podcast references better. But i got to be honest, i just tried watching stalker and i was unimpressed. Going to watch Sunshine next and hopefully its better. Also there are like 5 different Avalanche movies, guess ill have to watch them all. lol

Mr Fritz

I just noticed they’re having a war for the spark. I hope this isn’t a mtg reference

Lindsey Lefeber

To be fair, "litRPG" is not, at ALL, a genre that I had any interest in. BUT Dungeon Crawler Carl is hands down one of the best books I've ever read (including the ones that come after). I have a Bachelor's in English, so I do have at least some experience in what "good" is 🤷‍♀️

NJT

Excited for Matt to dive into the First Law series. He’s going to love it

Garbage Game Night

I really enjoy it, but there are definitely pages of text in that book that are just stats for the sake of stats. Is it important that during that grind sesh on the way back to the safe room "Donut's firebolt leveled up to 11 and clockwork automaton was about to level up"? It gets crunchy with the RPGlit numbers b/c some people really enjoy it. I'd say it takes itself pretty seriously even if it does have a sheen of family guy absurdist humor about it.

Garbage Game Night

It's a blast and I recommend everyone check out the audiobook, but to their point, there are huge blocks of text where it is just number crunching the RPG stats. It aint for everyone. And that's okay.

Garbage Game Night

The phrasing of the question REALLY matters here, and it's a bit different than what they said in the cast. Originally it was: "Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. - If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. - If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press" And the question was repeated on social a bit differently: - If you press blue and 50%+ press blue, everyone survives. - If you press red, you live. We don't need to put on some sense of sacrifice about it, the red button is just the live button. BUT if you account for people who don't understand the dilemma for any reason, such as children, the only ethical choice is blue. I thought this question was interesting b/c it made me realize how quickly I thought of myself and made me self reflect that I didn't think of people who didn't understand the buttons sooner. If you dilute the question by saying 'everyone understands the rules', the experiment becomes something else. To your point, choosing blue becomes about saving everyone who, either - by an inflated sense of compassion, or refusal to let anyone go, or flawed logic- chooses blue. Freddie was saying the original question was like 50/50 in responses - but this was done on a Threads poll and, using the original wording I shared, it was actually 57.9% blue. (Of course, threads tends to lean toward a certain audience a bit more!). But if we believe that's representative, it probably shows people are far more compassionate than we give them credit for. And to their point, would you want to live in a world where everyone who choose blue is gone? Even if we decide their logic is bad, their heart was in the right place!

Brazilnut

The problem with scary wasn't beth playing her, or her being a woman. The problem was that she continued to side with the bad guys repeatedly to the point where it made no sense for the other party members to keep her around. That, plus Anthony giving clear favorite treatment and bending the rules repeatedly to protect/empower Scary. The disagreements between party members are fun when it is smaller scale, but at a certain point it breaks the cohesion of why the party would remain together and that starts to strain the story. Much love to all the cast, just wanted to give 2 cents on the topic of Ralph vs Scary. If Ralph repeatedly betrays the party it will become problematic imo, but this was not a betrayal and was just an interesting disagreement moment.

Patrick Morris

Storybreak also did an episode coming up with there idea of a hungry hungry hippos movie. There's was a fun kids movie adventure romp, not a horror movie. But it's a good episode

Patrick Morris

Dude I'd say theater kids were huge nerds, aTleast the ones I knew in highschool. Like they were cool and alternative but just as weird and obsessed with a niche culture as any other nerd I knew in highschool. So weird Anthony didn't think so. But I also think it's partly because Anthony might think beth would take it as an insult and he doesn't want to put his friend down like that.

Shane Bonzani

I feel like that’s only really an issue in first maybe 2 books the grinding become more of a mentioned in passing and stats become almost an after thought in the later books

Byron Morris

Please listen to the Dungeon Crawler Carl. You have no idea how much you just butchered that masterpiece

Danny Baker

Not fun for the victims of communism, but certainly a fact.

rachel

Project Hai Mary is my all time favorite audiobook.

Gabriel Becerra

The blue and red button thing is just a reskined version of the prisoners dilemma

N (nea)

Me- an Audhd/ND coach (& long time listener), listening to Matt freshly realize the extent of hid neurodivergence as Freddy denies his own 😄

Josh D

Loved the talk about ADHD and Autism. Out of the crew I could see these folks with ADHD: Beth and Matt. Those with Autism: FREDDIE and Anthony. Wills got anxiety

chaos staci

Watch your mouth CARL LOVES PRINCESS DONUT!!

Hayley Abramowitz

I know this one! The literary fiction version is: there are only two stories, somebody leaves town or somebody comes to town

Elizabeth Brenum

Echolalia is also a really common way for Autistic folks to learn language. It used to be thought of as an “nonfunctional” behavior, but now it’s getting recognized as a really helpful skill in developing verbal skills and in self soothing. 😊

Jesse Barbour

"At no point did I ever think how much did Frodo's stats increase" Dude, as a kid who read Tolkien while playing JRPGs on the SNES at 11 years old, damn straight I was thinking about the Fellowship in terms of their stats and their stat increases at various points in the story

Devon Willingham

I think it’s a good thing they didn’t take it, because then you would pretty much get rid of the space travel aspect. They would just be able to teleport form world to world, which in turn could take away from the space aspect. I also thought it would be neat if just herb joined or soemthing as a 50/50 IBS luminous team to try to find a new solution that benefited both of them.

Devon Willingham

Idk I hate audio books and project Hail Marys audiobook is the only one I like. Also everyone should read it

William

you guys should know better than anyone, everyone has neurodivergent qualities but it's the quantity and debilitatingness of sed qualities
