As an audiobook narrator of about 40 books on Audible, no, I do not like a lot of the books I read, but that just means you have to fully commit to the voices to do your job. Not ridiculous, but the characters absolutely believe everything they are saying, no matter how absurd.

My Grandma would go to McDonald’s twice a day once in the morning for breakfast then go to goodwill. Then she would go back to McDonald’s to meet her lunch group, eat and chat. then go back to goodwill and then home. Did that pretty much every day till she passed.

Marc Thompson does most Star Wars audiobooks and he is FANTASTIC. Those are always great because they use the real sound effects and score so it’s closer to a radio drama than just a narration. World War Z also has an incredible audiobook too

2026-10-28 12:00 The "and the luminous means trans people and I believe they're an invasion like the luminous" joke hit me so hard out of nowhere. It was funny because I (a trans) never saw it like that. The luminous always seemed like the politics of easy answers and tidy solutions that only works if you don't think about the implications or context very hard from any other perspective. Fascist in it's appeal to a simple past and just becoming part of the in group that knows who the "violent bad types" are and is willing to "sacrifice" them for the good of the in group. Seeing Aja as a post op trans woman in military defense with a happy "normal" family felt like a really honest and accurate depiction of white trans women joining fascist spaces to do the oppressing of non white queer folk to feel the privilege and in group feelings of whiteness and fascism.

One of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to is Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, which is narrated by BRENDAN FRAISURE. It sounds like a full cast but it's just him.
