We get into a very deep conversation about portraying our characters and how we feel about the campaign so far now that we're entering a new "phase" of the game. We also reveal the next stretch goal (after the album, after Paeden & Walter's mini-adventure), and Beth gives an impromptu poetry reading.

Ancestral Recall lmao Jimmy wasn't even there yet to mention that it was funny you said that

So, I am just listening to this now. And I doubt any of the gang will probably end up reading this, but... Will, I think what makes this podcast what it is, IS the emotional response you can create with your listeners. I GET that this is entertainment, a story, an RPG, it's made up. But, when you can have an emotional connection, it draws you in deeper to the story. That is what I like about this podcast. There is the comedy, the interesting set-up of "real" people being flung into a fantasy setting, the depth of story, and the connection. As a father myself, I appreciate the depth in which you tell the story of the Grandfathers, Dads, and sons. Very relatable, even if you had a "normal" childhood. So, it's okay to get emotional, as I have several times listening to you guys tell your story. Thanks! Craig

I'm new, and rewatching the episodes and the talking dads right after, but I have such a new and amazing appreciation for this podcast. I just want you guys to know, your podcast hits me personally too! Not just getting attached to characters, but seeing myself in Grant or my own parents in this podcast. I just wanted to say...Will, thank you so much for sharing yourself with us and being open about therapy. ❤️ I'm in it as well, dealing with several childhood traumas. I was definitely intrigued with Anthony revealing that Willy is his own inner critic; that'll really inform my rewatches(please be gentle with yourself). Beth's randomness caught me off guard at first, but her response has really become one of the ones I look forward to the most. Freddie is a force where you know what he's gonna come up with is insane or insanely clever and Matt is the creator of my favorite characters in both the dad's and teens shows. I love the earnestness and protectiveness of both Linc and Darryl. Thank you for being vulnerable in these episodes and please be kind to yourselves! I've never been so happy to be a patron of a group of friends like this. Sorry if this is too long!

The first time I listened to this podcast (currently relistening to episodes and listening to talking dad right after now that I’m a Patreon member), there were several times I found myself tearing up or having to pause it cause something triggered my own trauma. The emotions all of you bring to this podcast is felt. I was tearing up listening to Will tearing up talking about how Henry learning about himself and healing is helping him through his own healing. All of you are wonderfully creative people with a lot of heart. I’m so thankful to have been told about this podcast. Thank you all for being raw and sharing pieces of yourself with us.

Hearing will cry really gets to me. And I think It's amazing how all of them put a lot of their own personalities in their own character

BayleeLou

I want to give Will a hug so bad cause what he was saying is honestly so true and honestly what all of them said about their characters

Hello, also a late listener. I hope Will and whoever else reads this but relates to what he has shared finds the path to balancing the honesty of anger and what it means and how to channel it in a way that is healthier than we were subjected to as children who did not deserve that. It's a really beautiful and vulnerable thing to experience and process live around other people, let alone recorded for people to listen to for now even 4 years later. I appreciate him keeping that in the podcast (for i assume the group would have let him veto airing it if he was uncomfortable) and to be so raw in a way that speaks to so many. Sometimes the unfortunate part of breaking patterns and cycles of unhealthy parenting is being left to clean up the messes made by others that people chose to pile more things on to instead of cleaning up themselves (be it bc they didnt have the tools or desire to do the work or maybe and probably a little of both). But it takes a lot of humility, kindness, and frankly fortitude to be willing to see that mess and choose to dive into it, undeserved as it is. The world is always better for it, our own and the ones of those around us especially. Anyways, long message. Sorry friends. But sending love and support to anyone who needs it, past, present or future.

I'm compelled to comment, listening to this for the first time. I'm so sad for Anthony and Beth that their internal voice is so cruel and unkind. Its a good reminder of the importance of self-kindness. You should be able to rely on yourself to have your own back, even if you can't rely on anyone else. I know this was recorded a long time ago and I hope Anthony and Beth are nicer to themselves these days! They're both amazing and they deserve all the kindness in the world.

Bryan is a curse word

Thank you Beth for making me realize I too am a step dad to a cat! I really am the dad that stepped up!

Alvin Bo Balvin

This was the most lovely talking dads so far. It's like an earnest flashback to the best moments compliment circle.

YouBetcha!

I’m so touched that Will, Anthony, Beth, Matt and Freddie have created a space where they feel safe to be vulnerable. Will openly sharing his experience, and the others actively supporting him is incredibly endearing and one of the many reasons I love this show so much. It’s clear they all care about and trust each other, and I’m grateful that this trust allows others to open up, like Beth and Anthony with their mental health struggles, because I think this helps all of us get better. Thank you for this wonderful gift!

I love you guys so much. This is the best episode of Talking Dad. I’ve never felt so comfortable and so empathetic towards strangers than I do to this group. It’s so refreshing how vulnerable you all are with each other and how supportive too. I hope to have a group of friends like this in my future. You guys have no idea how much hope and comfort you bring to your viewers.

David Olgarsson

Oof, such a great Talking dads episode. Teared up and related hard to Will, thank you for sharing, man. <3 Also: perfect ending poem by Beth!

Eric Smith

Do the dads have any songs that are "their" song, if so, do they change any of the lyrics. For example, my dad's name is Dan and when I was younger it was "I AM IRON DAN!" (Iron man by Black Sabbath) and I also got him a hat that said "Dad to the bone"

allyisawkward

Aww Will <3 I feel the same way about my characters when I play DnD. Always thankful this podcast got me into playing

Travis Lopez

Thank you Will. Stay strong always friend

Arthur Williams

It's okay Will. You've given amazing life to Henry Oak, you should be proud of what you accomplished. Love you man.

Douglas Underhill

Beautiful. I remember thinking initially what an intense storyline this would be to play out, and I was wondering how much was carrying over.

Austin Baker

This is the greatest DnD podcast of all time. The humor, production quality, and depth of character are far greater than anything I've ever heard. This Talking Dads made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Garrett McFarland

A Starwars mini-podcast with you all is exactly what I have been waiting for! I will give 100+ dollars just to get that made ASAP. GREAT Podcast and I am so excited about all the stuff you have in store! Thanks for all the hard work we really appreciate it!

Cuddlesquad

Can't wait for Henry Oak to drop "I Just Took a Mineral Test Turns Out I'm 100 Per-Cent Bismite" Feat. Ron's Mom

This has been my favourite talking dad episode of all time! Thank you all for being so vulnerable and sharing so much about how close these characters have come to be for you. Will I can't appreciate your raw and openness enough with sharing about therapy and working through your own relationship with anxiety and anger. I also have worked extensively with emotions and it felt very validating to hear someone I admire as a creator also be open about it! Matt thank you for creating a character that is trying to live up to the expectations a dad has about being as good as his own father, it's nice to see a different perspective. Daryl is one of my favourite characters and I'm excited to see him grow into himself! Freddy I'm looking forward to seeing where you take Glenn's character from here! Seeing him become more relatable and vulnerable has been such a treat. Anthony your openness about your inspiration for Willy's voice being the voice critical voice you have for yourself was also something I appreciate you sharing because I know that is something a lot of people have also struggled with (myself included). Beth (saving the best for last) I can't tell you how much I looovvved hearing the poem you shared!! If you ever shared more in upcoming talking dad episodes I know I for one would look forward to hearing more!! All of you have brightened my world in these tough and often dark times. Stay safe, stay well, and keep on birkenrockin!

brandon

So much love to Will, thank you for being so vulnerable.

Coldtoes

Wow, this was definitely the best Talking Dad yet. From crying over Will to crying in a completely different way over finsubs, I had the full range of emotions during this episode!

John Chatwell

Terrific stuff guys...I’m not crying you’re crying.

Jack Ruggless

Finally catching up on talking Dads. Thank you so much for this episode, very emotionally empowering.

FoxDeploy

Its emotional stuff! I teared up explaining the synopsis to my wife, especially the letters from the wives. I was crying, mowing my yard while listening to the podcast. That was a new experience.

Ryan Sullivan

Man I'm so proud of Will for feeling comfortable enough to talk about how playing this game helps him understand more about himself! Made me tear up when he started to tear up. God I love this podcast and everything about it!

Mike Mazzanti

Wow, I love y'all all so much. And Will's openness !!!! 😭😭😭😭

Corn

Will I want to give you a hug

Pickles

This is the second time I've listened to this and will made me cry again

Max

Just listened to this. Will you are an awesome human being and thank you for sharing your story. I love the fact the rest of the crew is so supportive

Jenica

One more thing I didn't realize I was missing during the isolation of the past 20 months: sitting in a room with friends where one is crying and the rest are supportive and validating so no one feels ashamed or uncomfortable. Crying alone feels less vulnerable, but it doesn't give you human connection and compassion like crying together can. Thank you so much for sharing.

October Jones

I know I’m late to this shit. But I love you guys.

Nestor

Will!!! 😭😭😭 Love you dude ❤️ ❤️

Aurie Dear
