The Dad Crew sits down to talk about the nuances of episode 23 of season two, but starts off with a vital diversion into Beth's recent Warhammer nightmare.

Eventually they get to the episode, including how Anthony put it all together, how the evolution of the Doodler changes how you see season one, and Hermie's complex family lore.

Plus, they answer some listener questions and get into lies everyone believed for a long time, Beth's favorite musicals, and the books/movies everyone misjudged in high school.

Escape board game night with Matt explaining to Beth how to DM while everyone else plays Beth's inner thoughts like Disco Elysium or (Inside out).

Isabel Lindsay

Will—my friend in elementary school had me convinced that Narnia was real and would give me updates on my boyfriend, Mr. Tumnus and snuggle love letters to him from me.

Pidgey koto

I feel like in "the forgotton season" between these 2 they would resolve Nick actually being Glenn's son.

Ashley

I LOVE pride and prejudice and zombies it’s a comfort movie

Spinnaker

Huh. I watched the first episode of Andor and I didn't feel like continuing. I guess you really do need a banger at the end of an episode.

Jesse Barbour

Anthony talking about his feelings of S1 vs S2 has the same energy as a dad who has 2 sons, loves the older one more, and isn't shy about it.

Jordanasaurus Lamb

This episode is phenomenal. It's one of my favourites.

Lienisaur

Antony's description about the feelings the doodler has in the end still gets me so hard

Kayden Pierce

CATCHER IN THE RYE SUCKED IT HAD NO PLOT EXCEPT JUST AN ANGSTY KID WHO SUCKS BUT THINKS EVERYBODY ELSE SUCKS AND SPENDS THE ENTIRE TIME COMPLAINING

Kurt Dimock

Big agree with Will about waiting to reveal the Dads thing, as an audience member it gets tiring being teased and advertised to with characters you loved from past shows to make sure you watch more. This way it was just a lovely surprise and made the episode pop way more

Garbage Game Night

potential spoilers up to ep.40 - The choice to put the doodler in as a teen is amazing - my initial thought was that it's a mirror for the teens to see themselves in since it ends up reflecting their behaviors and not just rebel against their parents but be better. The insight that- the dads look worse once they realize the doodler was a misunderstood evil is interesting. I don't think that's emphasized in the main feed, but they also sat in the throne, they would understand the doodler just as well.

Shel B Kennas fav SG is welly’s number one felly

Anthony holy shit this was so good. The way he tied all 3 generations of stories together into this reveal was... WOW. Also Will is such an underrated emotional actor! His "be aggressive, be be aggressive" choice for Normal to hype himself up to do this wildly brave and terrifying moment was chefs kiss. Such a funny episode AND full of story pay off and setting the groundwork for the kids taking the wheel and the agency Anthony mentioned feeling unresolved wit them not having the agency that the dads had in season 1. I know this is SO late but I feel the story progression pace was actually spot on, it felt very The Good Place where it moved just a step ahead of what people expect or anticipate, so it never dragged BUT it still feels earned because true story arcs, like people, dont come out of the womb fully fledged and hitting the ground running. There has to be some struggle and finding footing so when they ascend to this moment it feels scary, momentus, and with a grain of hope they can do something about it. The kids have learned about the world, the stakes, and are coming more into who they are so they can begin to make decisions with agency and informed consent. This is the difference between the kids and the doodler-- the doodler is in a stasis of arrested development and purely in a reactive, feral wounded animal state and now the kids have the knowledge to attempt to do better and be proactive and consider the options. They can potentially lead with kindness and love, and much like parenting do what's best for the "child" even if it means that kid will hate them for it

Gwen Remme

there’s a spectacular musical called urine town with an amazing set list and i wish you guys would watch it

Lika Valair

Hate to ruin this years later, but beans are fruit

Marcus

IM SORRY BUT ITS NOT ICE AND BEANS, ITS FROZEN SWEETENED MILK AND IT TASTES LIKE ICE CREAM

Sebastian Ma

Freddy is wrong about Chinese desserts

Wet Ceiling Sign

I absolutely abhor “The Sound and the Fury”

sybillium4

Nah red beans suckass. Get a can of pinto and dump some sugar in, boom. Same profile

Marissa Y.

Shout out to Will for remembering and asking about Morgan Freeman (the NPC, not the actor).

Grace

Just popping into say that im listening to season 2 for the first time and I genuinely think its incredible. Its on the same level as season 1 for me! I understand being hard on your own work, but everyone has been doing an incredible job! The acting, the writing, the drama, and the COMEDY all come together and form a really cohesive story (again, in BOTH seasons)

Caleb Crawford

Keep watching, it really is worth it, incredible show.

Caleb Crawford

I died laughing at that one, so good. 😆

Broden Orr

You know the end bit with the doodle was good because Anthony said "you feel the sensation of being inside 2 young boys" and everyone was too locked in to make any jokes about it

Lili

OVER AN HOUR GOD BLESS

Todd Story

Christmas came early. Much like Anthony.

O

Yay!

Simon P

Yesssss I was waiting for this!!!

Tyler Sanders

Idk what all this Warhammer stuff is quite yet but curse you folk for getting me turned onto it

ronny

I always save listening to these ‘till after the uncut but I am simply vibrating with excitement for an over hour long teen talk. Ahhhh

Pbc98

Looking forward to the upcoming conflict

glizzy_god

I love hearing Anthony talk about the DM process, it’s really interesting to hear how he gets his ideas and why things are executed the way they are.

InvisHandd

I absolutely love to hear how much they had fun in the last episode. I feel like it really reflected in this Talking Dads too.

dagny

Anthony proving that gay people still suck

Emma Steorts

25th annual Putnam county spelling bee is a top tier musical and Beth has great taste for liking it

dagny

Also Repo is so so so good glad to see it recognised

Beck Webster

Y’all are so hard on yourselves the last two episodes both slapped (as has all of season 2). Im so excited to see where the story goes from here! ❤️

Kenna

I listen to dndads for the shipping discourse only

ShrimpThePimp

I can practically smell the warp on Beth from here 🤢

WickedChild95

I'd love to see ron and Samantha having a kid later in life... and that kid is beth may played by Anthony. Id love another one of those "cameos".

JME

TW: BPD The turn on the Doddler was SO important to me. I had tried to write my own story about "monsters" as an allusion to personality disorders, and how when you have something like BPD (at least in my experience) it feels like being a completely different kind of thing. I wasn't able to finish that story, because I wasn't really able to find a comfortable conclusion, but I'm so excited that y'all have taken an idea like that. I can 100% empathize with over-feeling and ending up hurting people when you want to love them. I love this story so much, it's changed my life and actually significantlly helped my mental health (helped me work through some stuff in therapy even!) Anyway I loved Poison Ivy Hermie, so excited to see him in the other rouges

Kenna

Beth inquiring minds need to know if you stan ride the cyclone or hadestown 🙏🙏

Bone

I get the binge listening to season 1 and up to this point! It’s a whole different experience to have to wait episode to episode 😂

Carter Wasdin

The biggest lie I believed was my older brother casually telling me that Neil Armstrong died in a freak washing machine accident.

Fearne Pérez

I am DYING at a room full of men (affectionate) laughing when Beth admits she hurt her own feelings bc what a microcosm of life 😂

Alex

It’s always a beautiful site when I see Teen Talk is over an hr long 🤌

Rhine Reviews

I could listen to Freddie just rant about the most mundane things for hours.

J.upit.er

on top of lies you believed, i once made a lie that to a friend that MegaMan X was based on a true tv show and had 3 movies. way before Megaman had a show

Eddie

I’ve never been more seen than when Beth mentioned Repo

Chase

I truly appreciate that after Beth gets called out with the Hoover dam meme, you can hear her quiet ‘damn’ under everyone else’s laughter. That forced me to remember how to breath for fear of passing out from laughter!

Collins

beth, highly HIGHLY suggest great comet of 1812 for musicals

Deshor

I feel like it's worth considering that listeners are like over 90 episodes deep into your show & a lack of a cliffhanger isn't going to stop us from watching episode 91 - in fact the lack of a cliffhanger almost makes coming into next fortnights episode even more exciting because you have no idea where it could go.

Ronald McRonald

I have an uncle that's 2 years younger than me.

Lienisaur

Did beth said.. my boyfriend?! Yes Beth, get em

Amy Stokes

I forced my boyfriend to listen to Dungeons and Daddies S1 (first 4 episodes) on the way to and from my parents for Thanksgiving..... I'll be continuing the Lord of Chaos for him come the traveling for Christmas. :)

Cisco Garcia

i got chills when Normal said, “we need to help it”

Sophie B Grapplin

Im really interested to hear Grants reaction to what Normal saw since Lark never told any of them

Chrys

YESSSSSSS WHAT BETH SAID. This is the continuation of the best D&D podcasts throughout both seasons. Even NADDPOD or Critical Role doesn’t have the direct correlation between seasons ever so this is the best continuing story I’ve ever heard @Anthony Burch

acaciaskye

I’d seen “he’s just like me fr” on fanart for that moment on tumblr before this episode even came out 😂❤️

Samantha Mann

I want “As my ballsack empties, my brain fills” as a cross-stitch

Cinderhella

How’s no one addressing Beth saying “where’s the baby ??¿??”

Ian Serkez

Repo! Fist pumping in my car! Hell yeah!

coco joelle

no matter how much i bully my boyfriend to listen to this (we stumbled across it together- he actually found it on spotify) over a year later he refuses. it’s so fake

Marie Blanchet

Hey Anthony? This season is GREAT I like it even better than S1 idk why you’re so hard on yourself

Marie Blanchet

Also FYI the Hermie as poison Ivy moment was a great ending to last episode the girlies on Tumblr were going rabid over it

Matthew Ising

Yooooooo, I was in Putnam County spelling bee as Mr. Panch in high school. Love to hear about it anywhere, it's a great one

Nick Bidaurreta

Thank you Beth for confirming what I have felt about "Catcher in the Rye". I feel seen.

The Pissler

It’s a great book Nick!

Annie the Feywild therapist

Related to the Matt McDonald conversation - my brother and his friend convinced me as a child that the chicken katsu at our favorite restaurant was gazelle meat 🤦🏻‍♀️

Adrian Popielas

Anyone have a timecode for the adbreak they talk about

MarsK00

We make our family/siblings listen and now they’re into the podcast too lol

Invader Jimm

Escape the board game night would be great one shot for Matt to DM

Invader Jimm

A hidden 3rd season better the first and second? A.....Pre-Sequel, perhaps??

FusRohNahSon

This is the only podcast I know that almost earnestly talks the audience out of their podcast. Long time patreon still love it and the creators however their opinions on their show can fuck themselves

Frank

I tried to get my friends into the podcast but they all stopped listening because they said it reminds them too much of the campaign I'm running for them and they didn't want spoilers 💀💀💀💀

Morgan Lisa

I have lived in Hong Kong for nearly 10 years and I loooost it when Freddie went off on Chinese dessert 🤣 I’ve tried red beans in every type of dessert possible and I’ve never liked it, but I will defend black sesame desserts

Julia Gaskill

Hell yeah 25th annual Putnam County spelling bee shout out

Raju

I also can’t find it so would love that timestamp too if anyone has it 🙌

Autumn Kamibayashiyama

No the acoustic was so good it brought all the trauma of the end of season one back

Cree

Anthony has maybe the worst case of impostor syndrome ever. We like this podcast! It rules!

twoprongedsquid

I’m so taken aback at how harsh y’all are on your own show! Can’t tell if it’s masochism or a lifetime of insecurity. Your show is a national treasure, and the nuances that you tear into shreds don’t impact our perception on you nearly as much as you think. I’ve introduced your show to eight people, and all of us are still tracking it fervently. Season two is a massive growth from season one, and it’s been awesome to follow along to this point

The Brothers LEE

"Beth you wanna take us out?" "Um actually can you ... " "you want me to take us out" "yea" "ok. Heres a deck of cards beth"

Corbin Young

Honestly, I thought Hermes the Unworthy was like a spiritual successor to Paeden, never even considered he would've been related to Scam Actually or Joe D.

james carter

I'm going to go watch Andor now. I stopped at 2.

Paul Sontaro

One of my personal favorite talking dads

Naz Rosenbonds

I have a question for the dads: I recently found out my dog has cancer and I wanted to know any coping strategies you all have and any stories about deceased pets?

Robert

As an Asian American I can verify, yes mostly fruit for dessert. BUT that Chinese sweet that's like, the sweet sesame ball from 99 Ranch Market is fire and must be recognized🔥

Breanna Nelson

Beth saying that she loves Repo ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Evolved Unicorn

Honestly, I was in the same boat as Matt for the first 3 episodes of Andor. I “wanted” to like it (before everyone was talking about it), but I had to go back and rewatch them to really get into it. I’m glad I did. What a freaking phenomenal show! That said, this was a great Teen Talk, and I think I can speak for a large number of listeners when I say that the constant “self-hating” of your own podcast should be put to rest. Have problems with your own individual performances, maybe, but this ongoing podcast masochism (I can only assume there’s pleasure in there given Anthony’s ballsack comment 😂) has beyond ran its course. It’s starting to sound like the person that always says they’re fat just so someone will tell them they aren’t and that they’re beautiful. You know how many listeners you have. You know how many Patreon members there are. Stop wasting energy on self flagellation. Y’all are better than that💙 Love my Daddies!

Alex

Other people talking about Andor: “yea it felt kinda weird where they ended the first few episodes but they were still cool.” Matt and Freddie: “THE FIRST TWO EPISODES WERE DOGSHIT”

Anthony Vetrano

I agree with Will! Love the build up and then BOOM dads

xander day

Jfc, please do a Dads and Sports patreon ep. One of the best intros you have done

bankivaa

Haha I really do try to get my friends to listen to DnDads but none of them are into dnd...except one friend where talking about DnDads kinda brought us together again because we could bond about it✨️

Sam Graine

I am someone who got into dnd because of you guys and forced my friends to get into dnd because of you guys, I still have not succeeded in forcing them to actually listen to you guys. I will continue trying.

Hades Girl

I started listening to you guys back in 2020 and I tried really hard to get my siblings to listen, but they refused. Then about a year ago my younger sibling saw a TikTok about and listened to the entire thing. :/

Mel Mel

What?? Why did I find out Angela Lansbury died from this?!

Jacuzzi Jesus

Hearing Beth talking about musicals is really the only time I've ever known what movies yall were talking about 😂 Thanks for the theatre kid rep lol

ハルナ

I hope Freddie knows that the Pad in pad Thai means to stir fry ... Like fried rice "kao pad", stir fried veg " pad pak "

Bex Boster

100% lol I've been binging these episodes so much that he onestly I couldn't even tell you what the ending of the last episode was.

Bex Boster

"a little thing called Christianity" 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏YES!

DanTheWriter

Freddy - Chinese desserts - what about fried ice cream? Or is that a Western “Chinese” food?

Worm Wizard

Beth and I assumed the exact same thing XD. Will had an opportunity to create a devastating, instant change to the group dynamic, and decided to bond instead lol

Sasha

Fuck yes, musical theater rep! And 25th annual Putnam county spelling Bee is amazing. Loved playing Rona Lisa Perreti, but Doralee in 9 to 5 was probably my favorite musical character I've done. Might I add for anyone who likes Lord of the rings and musicals y'all need to look up Lord of the rings The musical. It's fantastic. I want to play Galadriel one day but sadly I have the build of a Hobbit.

Wandering Giant

Oh man I've got the EXACT same rant as Freddie about the red beans

Cal

Beth has GOT to listen to natasha pierre and the great comet of 1812 if she hasn’t it’s fantastic
