Everyone does their own thing but I don’t think Anthony cares very much about the rules. Like, Scary says she casts firewall at her character level when spells only go to 9th level. And yea, Abe should have gotten 4 attacks as a lv. 20 fighter, also had action surge, also could have more with subclasses, Normal could have casted sanctuary on himself in the ring and would be fine…but like, who cares? The story comes before the rules and that’s just fine.

I think he saw that there was no tension if people were doing minimal damage. The players wouldn’t have acted so irrationally and wildly without the tension the higher damage created. Several DMs have admitted to changing stats in combat to make things more interesting for their players. I remember in NADDPOD season 1, Murph had to change the BBEGs end HP because of the amount of damage the players did in the first round

This isn’t D&D. Stop wanting it to be. This is a funny, goofy, silly, LOOSE ttrpg where the only point is storytelling. Quite literally Anthony is doing what he’s supposed to. I wasn’t a fan of the whole king of hell/FBCIA taking over hell bit but the episode in itself is great and hilarious. Freddie needs to learn how to be useful though lmao.

It is literally a d&d podcast though, I don't care that they don't like the rules, they can play however they want, but it is still a d&d podcast. Personally I think they would have a better time of using a game like monster of the week, that game it's much easier for fights to be deadly without putting effort into stating out badguys

5e has a bloodied rule in the DMG by the way. You can still tell players if a monster is bloodied if you want.

it's whatever but it's a little annoying how Anthony pretends like he consistently follows any sort of rulebook. Like how he said he can't tell them how hurt an enemy is because 5e doesn't have "bloodied" rules (even though it does. DMG page 248) right after making up a 4x damage rule for no reason. idc how you run your game. just own it, at least.
