Hello everyone, it's been a while,

As forewarned a long time ago, the final chapter of Blood & Fur has been posted on Patreon. Blood & Fur patrons can download a PDF copy of the final book in the epilogue chap, while Dracolich patrons have access to it there (https://www.patreon.com/posts/48625485 ) like all PDFs.

Concluding that series leaves me with a bittersweet feeling. I've put two years of my life in it and while it encountered its hurdles, I feel it's probably my highest quality work since The Perfect Run and the one I'm most satisfied with.

But now that it's done... well, I'm honestly unsure how to proceed on the writing front.

Full disclosure, at this point, 80% of my writing-related revenue comes from Vainqueur the Dragon, The Perfect Run, and Apocalypse Tamer, with all of my other series combined filling the rest; including the five or so series/books I've written in the last two years. Blood & Fur worked very well on Patreon (enough that the number of people cancelling their patronage now that it's done is going to sting a lot), but Amazon & Audible are another story and those are my main sources of income.

I'm not complaining. I live relatively comfortably and with enough funds to kickstart projects like the TPR video game (big news coming on that, but contractually forced into silence for now). I realize how unbelievably lucky I am to have made a career out of my creative ventures.

But well... it's a bit crushing to compare numbers from older works with the new ones and see that they have a fraction of the reviews/tractions/revenues of the pre-Apocalypse Tamer ones. It makes me wonder what went wrong.

While things are going phenomenally well on The Perfect Run video game front, I feel I've plateaued hard on the writing front. Maybe I've stretched myself too thin on too many projects over the last two years, or didn't take the time to prepare enough. Maybe I should drop stories that don't perform well early and focus on better ones, even if I hate leaving stuff unfinished, or focus on doing sequels to existing works rather than create something new. I'm really at a moment where I'm questioning everything.

There's also the fact that as mentioned a bit earlier, things are accelerating quite a lot on the The Perfect Run game front (and webtoon, let's not forget that one) and I'll be expected to work as its narrative designer/co-director for the next two years. This will probably impact my writing schedule a lot on 2025/2026, and the possibility of writing sequels to The Perfect Run as part of our promotion strategy has also been raised.

All of this to say... while I'm continuing to update Board & Conquest at the normal pace, I'm not going to seriously jump into a new story with a set schedule immediately, whether it'll be Paypocalypse or anything else. Paypocalypse chapters are probably going to come when they're done rather than one or twice a week, at least until Board & Conquest is done. I might try other pilots on more serious stories as well (I still dearly want to write a story about the Mortalities from The Lost Deaths one day, though I'll have to rework the verse to make it commercially palatable) and see the reception to them.

So yeah, all in all, I'm at a point where I'm questioning everything and being a bit more cautious with new projects. If you have suggestions or thoughts to share I'd be happy to read them in the comments.

Otherwise on a lighter note, I guess I can share you a few pictures of the webtoon/game.

I hope to send you larger updates on that front in late August once a few things are out of the way.

But yeah, in any case, here are the news and I'll be happy to read what you think of them in the comments.

Best regards,

Voidy.

All good to know, thank you. I don't recognise the second character drawing. Can you clarify who that is

Renn

If I’m not mistaken, that’s the guy who can turn invisible in the perfect run. I think it was Shroud.

Manpolar

That was my guess to. Thank you

Massgamer

So happy for you about your game development, and want you to know we support you in whatever you feel is right when it comes to writing so take your time and do what is best for you dude.

Publius Decius Mus

While I loved Dungeon Wreckers and Blood and Fur, I kind of get that they are more niche, and don't do that well. But I am utterly surprised B&C doesn't do better. It seems to have everything Vainqueur had, but more refined.

Blood and Fur was so incredibly good. Maybe it not performing as well was a problem of visibility.

Duesal Bladesinger

Blood & Fur was phenomenal. I think visibility, as some others have mentioned, was a big issue. The algorithm is fickle.

Charlie

Personally I'm just glad you keep consistently writing stuff I enjoy :) Thanks as always man. I hope you stick to writing stories that are fun for you too.

Duesal Bladesinger

One thing that might help is official accompanying art for future works? You had some AI generated art for this story. Commissioning an artist with works where you fully own the licenses might be more helpful, rather than only the cover art. Consider it an investment, especially with the possibility that a book might turn into a comic or a graphic novel, etc. That sort of thing gets a *lot* more people involved where they have the extra help visualizing characters. If you look at some of the more popular writers on forums like SpaceBattles, QuestionableQuesting, etc, they have art that they either commission or make themselves for their characters.

Void Herald

I do suspect it's more likely that its subject matter (aztec myth, nonlitrpg dark fantasy progression) didn't appeal to the wider world XD

Void Herald

Probably too many characters honestly; it was inevitable considering the tactical RPG inspirations but I suspect readers prefer more focused casts and clearer progression.

Tim Joseph Dumol

Blood and Fur was amazing! Perhaps the cover image gives the wrong impression? (attractive woman -> may cause people to assume it's just a low quality harem fic)

Runaway_Cactuar

I'd like to applaud you for writing a story with an underutilized mythology. Most myth-based fantasy stories out there pretty much stick with Greco-Roman mythology or Norse. And readers can easily get into that because it's very familiar (bordering on cliche at this point). But mesoamerican mythology is exotic, and harder to get into for the western audience because we weren't exposed to it. But it's so fresh and fascinating and I'm glad you took that creative risk to make something truly original. Writing is risky, and you can't win them all. I do hope you'll keep writing- B&F is really good (weird book title notwithstanding).

Void Herald

I do, but I need to find a sweet spot between what I like and what's more commercially viable XD

Void Herald

Mmm you would mean more side content? True, I guess I could produce more art for new stories or stuff like route/event polls like I did in older stories.

Void Herald

I'm never going to live down not calling it Blood & Feathers? XD but more seriously I feel greco norse mythology work because people are already familiar with them so it lowers the barrier of entry yeah. Perhaps I should lean more on troops but add a twist to keep things fresh like with Kairos.

Kooooomakimi

Probably a visibility thing, lack of litrpg elements and the not so easily digestible subject matter that made blood & fur not get the attention it deserved. It's more of a niche book, as is dungeon wreckers. If you're worried you're stretching yourself thin, there might be a bit of truth to that. I am sometimes surprised by how many stories you write simultaneously, so it might not be a bad idea to take some time to recharge the creative batteries.

Trucinox

You are a phenomenal writer and I have enjoyed every piece you have created. I will continue to support you no matter what comes your way but I hope you continue to write stories you enjoy and not just cater to the audience too much. Sure some stories are pretty niche like underland but you can tell when you are passionate in the writing :) Anyways, I’m looking forward to all the amazing adventures that will come our way in time.

Duesal Bladesinger

Exactly! If you're able to have character art from the very start I think that would be a big help for any future story.

Duesal Bladesinger

I'm not sure if you remember our brief interaction in discord -- what prompted me to be a Patreon member was getting to see the AI generated character art. I guarantee I'm not alone in character art being a motivator.

Orion1024

Hi ! I still enjoy your work a lot and honestly couldn't say that Vainqueur/Apo are a cut above the rest, it feels to me that the quality is the same. Perfect Run though... well as a time loop it's my favorite genre so I'm biased :) It may just be the randomness of how things sometimes go viral and sometimes they don't. If I had just one tiny complaint, it's that the tone of some characters often feels the same between your different universes. For instance the joker (often makes light jokes, doesn't take things too seriously because trauma) and the flirty feminine romantic interest archetypes are very common. B&F was an exception since it was so dark, but most of your lighter works have these archetypes and it can get harder to get into the story when you feel like you've already seen these characters. *That* said, it's only a potential issue (and again, I still enjoy your writing a lot) for long-time readers. Not sure it has anything to do with your recent work not getting as much recognition as the previous ones.

Django

Hey, I continue to enjoy your works and think you write some high quality stuff, but I agree with some others and think it is just a matter of visibility and the lack of LitRPG elements. If Royal Road is your primary source of new potential patrons, I can see it getting lost in the sea of LitRPG stories that are just popping off there, and which honestly I have resorted to blocking them in my filters when looking for new stories as I am kinda tired of them at the moment. If you don't already, and if it isn't too much work, maybe try posting the more niche series to other sites as well? The only ones I've ever read from are RR and Scribblehub, but there might be sites with audiences more inclined to non-LitRPG progression stories.

CentaureHeart

I don't know how realistic it is for you, but I think at some point you could write an actual fantasy book and just get it out in hardcover directly. You definitely have the writing talent/dedication for it. Might also write it in French and just aim for the French market if it's easier (might get lost less). Of course that's just a suggestion, but visibility for webnovels is definitely one of the hardest hurdles. Good luck with all of that anyway. Enjoy summer:)

MasterofNova

Would highly recommend focusing on one project at a time rather than multiple. Don't know if you've noticed it but many of you're stories have a very samey feeling to them whether it be in the characters, the world building or the plot itself. Of course some of this is inevitable with it being written by the same author but I have to note that I did not have this feeling when I first started reading TPR and Vanquier. But with NDT and Kairos it became far more pronounced. Having stories where you can stay in the world longer and explore it in ways ya normally don't could help gain some lost novelty. Ik you said you couldn't write a story like The Wandering Inn because you needed a focused plot but at this point I think you've overdone them and the change of pace could be quite helpful. Of course this is all my opinion but I hope this was well received. Also sidenote; another reason I think Blood and Fur wasn't as popular as others is cause of the names. I swear outside of titles and the main consorts/concubines I couldn't pronounce/remember anyone's name and I doubt I was alone in that issue

CentaureHeart

Yeah the names is a problem for a weekly web novel. Definitely less for a book though.

Void Herald

Yeah, probably going to work on only 1-2 stories max in the future, and probably only publish one at once on RR at a time.

Void Herald

Mmm... you might have a point, maybe I should try editing my character archetypes in the future.

Void Herald

True. Tbh my original goal was to make sure to focus all my audience on one platform because it's easier to keep track of, but with all the pirate sites already copying my stuff I guess I just might as well post it on other sites myself XD

Void Herald

Ah XD well, French market is hyper anemic and I do feel webnovel visibility is still the best path in general. Plus I would have to rebuild my whole brand from the ground up.

Void Herald

Names issue were kinda unique to Blood & Fur but I get your point about samey stuff; I suppose it's also an issue of stretching too thin in that I have less time to deepen the lore and characters.

CentaureHeart

That's true, I just had memories of books that are more teen fantasy, and that's not exactly your theme right now ^^

Garden Variety Serpent

This is surprising and deeply depressing. "Blood & Fur" is kind of brilliant. I'd expect it to do extremely well.

C. Adkins

Like many others, I think all your books are at a minimum great. Vainquerer was my intro into LitRPG so maybe I’m biased, but it and the Perfect Run are like S-Tier. Blood and fur is great, but unfortunately mesoamerican mythology doesn’t have the same appeal to a general audience YET. When determining if a book is a failure, you also gotta consider that tastes shift, which means the B&F mythos might be a huge hit three years from now. Also, the internet is weird and what catches fire is unpredictable. Your stuff is great! Please keep writing! And if you want to slow down, focus on one at a time, well, I’ll always be in line waiting to buy the newest novel!

Void Herald

I mean, grimdark aztec fantasy doth not appeal to the greatest numbers XD

Test Lord

I think the Aztec Mythology aspect of Blood and Fur are not an issue at all.In fact I thin it helps it marketablity It's the serial aspect, and lack of a system that affected it's promotion to Progression fantasy crowd So I will say that Blood and Fur might benefit from you remarketing it. Not to the Progresion Fantasy crowds but to the Epic Fantasy crowd.Because it's actually closer to things like GOT than He who fights with monsters. I would also suggest changing the book covers to reflect the unique aztec aspects, as there's a big demand non European fantasy I also don't think you should run from Niche Ideas. Its just you might have to market them to Fantasy fans rather than Progression fantasy.
