Previous Chapter

Two ravens flew over the Darkwood as it burned.

Rivers of flames consumed the vast wasteland forming the Borderlands, where demonic legions and monsters warred among the ashes. On one side were dark elves, mutated treants, burning wickermen, and a handful of fiends loyal to the Destroyers; and on the other the leonine hordes of Mithras. Simon watched skeletal horsemen burning alive and fire elementals incinerating screaming warriors by the hundreds.

Simon had sent most of the demons he had enthralled to attack the elves to the west in order to hopefully lure the Archer away from their flight path. The rest had been sent to Frightwall to remain there as guards and healing batteries.

However, his flight made him realize it might have been pointless. The ongoing war already provided the smokescreen he needed to cross the Borderlands, quite literally. Ravens weren’t even a noteworthy sight around these parts. Vultures and crows were plentiful where even dragons had perished.

Carrion-eaters feasted well in this age of ruin.

Simon peeked over at his companion once they crossed the burning Borderlands and crossed into the Darkwood itself. Although Agrat still refused a Devil Brand, Simon convinced her to join his Party as a condition to accompany him by pointing out it would protect them both from hostile divination. Her lack of knowledge on the Perk’s abilities meant Simon gained access to her stats, which proved enlightening.

Fiends had no Classes or Perks to speak of, but the Party System gave them an ‘estimated’ level anyway that represented their power. It assigned her an impressive level 68 Demon with potent abilities, though he couldn’t read her spell list.

Simon was pretty confident he could take her in a fight should she try anything, and he had taught her certain secrets to ensure she could assist him against the Archer or any powerful foe they might encounter, but he knew better than to relax his guard around her.

He nonetheless trusted her not to do anything stupid in hostile territory. The Darkwood had grown quite a lot since his era, with twisted thorn miasmatrees dominating most of the landscape. Although nowhere near the size of the mountain-sized lair of the Stone Muse, these gnarly creatures were already reaching taller than young hills and suffusing the air with miasma. Vast trackless swaths of mutated forests, toxic swamps, and colossal mushroom colonies dominated the landscape. The unpleasant smell of decay and musty pollution was joined by hisses and croaking from the corrupted wildlife that called this poisonous hell home.

The Darkwood had truly evolved into a miasmic ecosystem over the centuries. The original, while dangerous, had mostly been a haunted forest shrouded in darkness. The warped forest before Simon hosted countless new creatures that survived, and even thrived, in this vicious environment.

There is no way we’ll stay undetected for long, Simon thought. He knew from experience dryads could see pretty much everything inside their territory. Every tree and blade of grass was a potential spy. We can only delay the inevitable for a time.

Still, there were enough carrion-eaters in the area that Simon and his companion could fly for miles unmolested until their first pit stop came into sight: an algae-choked swath of swampwater surrounded by three hills covered in red grass. A Deepground Vault should be located under the northwestern one.

Simon landed at its base alongside Agrat, then used Fiendmask to hide his true shape under an illusory dark elf disguise. As for his companion, she simply shapeshifted into one. Enormous toads the size of dogs and mushroom-infested salamanders stared at them from the swampy waters, but did not attack due to Simon’s Unquestionable Ruler Perk.

So far so good. Simon looked for the nearest cave into the hill and entered it, though it proved rather shallow and devoid of anything besides roots. The entrance must have long been buried.

His hand reached for an uncovered wall. “Chaos Wave.”

His spell blasted apart rock and stone in all directions. Simon followed the spell with another, and another, until he slowly began to dig a tunnel underground. He was wary of using anything stronger to avoid causing the hill to collapse on their heads, so he had to be slow and careful… until he finally hit something other than stone and earth.

Metal.

Simon continued blasting until he exposed what he was looking for: a great, circular door of enchanted steel covered in runes and other symbols. A massive lock nearly as tall as he was kept the vault locked shut.

“Interesting design, so complex in its defenses, yet so simple in its solution…” Agrat commented as she recorded observations in her book. “A single password would unlock all of its protections.”

“The knowledge of which I alone possess in this era,” Simon said before uttering the right passphrase he had learned during his brief rulership of Endymion in a reign past. “Purple World, Fifteen-Nine-Two-Thousand and Twenty-Four, First of Three.”

His words rang out into the tunnel, and a droning noise answered them. The runes shone and the lock unbound itself. The magic moved the door aside, revealing a dark tunnel.

“Success,” Simon said as he pulled out a Ring of Demonbinding from his Inventory, then summoned a branded watcher demon bound to it by his magic. “Keep watch over this place and inform me if anything approaches.”

Simon and Agrat left the guardian behind as they ventured into the vault. Enchanted lanterns should have lit up the path, but four hundred years of disuse had caused most of them to die out; the few that remained provided little illumination. It wasn’t much of an inconvenience since Simon and Agrat could both see in the dark.

Yes, they could see the corpses well enough.

Lots of bones and skeletons littered the main tunnel, desiccated and dry. The reinforced walls also bore many traces of ancient burns and explosions.

“What happened here?” Simon wondered as Agrat cast analysis spells. “Were they attacked?”

“I do not believe so, Your Majesty. Readings indicate symptoms consistent with famine and malnutrition. Evidence points to these mortals trying to break the lock from the inside.”

“The door shut in behind them and they failed to open it before running out of rations.” Simon’s jaw clenched as he put the pieces together. “Was that intentional design, or an oversight?”

“The spells woven into the lock indicate a properly appointed individual could have opened it with a magical signal.” Agrat met his gaze. “Probably you, from what I gather.”

Simon grunted as he pondered those findings. Operation Deepground was designed to host Endymian army personnel in relative safety for years until the Zodiac Parade ran its course, after which they would have retaken the empire’s heartlands.

Could Balzam have designed the vaults to trap soldiers inside unless he alone decided to free them? It was cruel, but made a twisted amount of sense when taking into account his father’s usual methods. Balzam the Cruel couldn’t allow potential warlords to rise and establish themselves outside of his control should communications break down.

Our soldiers sought a sanctuary and found a tomb instead. In Balzam’s mind, either a Magnos Overlord ruled the empire, or it deserved to die with the House of the Manticore. That, or he preferred undead soldiers to living ones. Your spite was a bane on our people, Father. What an utter waste.

“Odd,” Agrat noted. “They are not rising.”

Simon wondered what she meant until the truth hit him. “The cycle of reincarnation has ended with the loss of manatrees. Ambient miasma should have raised the soldiers as undead.”

“I wonder if spells woven into this structure harvested their souls somehow.” Agrat sounded more and more curious. “I would need time to study them in-depth.”

“Time is of the essence,” Simon decided. This mystery would wait until they found what he was looking for. “We’ll check the armory and records room first.”

“What is Your Majesty looking for?”

“Answers.”

The investigation proved mostly disappointing. Four centuries of disuse and ambient miasma exposure that managed to leak through the bunker’s fading wards had ravaged most of the armory’s useful items or undid their magic. The remaining, damaged weapons wouldn’t be of much use to Simon. The records room was hardly any better. Most of the scrolls and documents there had long since rotted away.

However, there was one system there that remained functional: a small carnelian and manalith cube on an altar, connected to the complex’s spells. The wards protecting it were among the strongest in the vault and successfully weathered the test of time.

“Fascinating…” Agrat studied the device closer. “A modified crystal ball linked to sensory runes on this vault’s edges.”

“Impressive deduction,” Simon complimented her as he touched the manaliths carved into the cube’s sides. “Since the vault was supposed to be sealed for a certain period of time, this system would allow its inhabitants to observe the outside world.”

In short, Simon now had access to four centuries' worth of visual records stretching all the way back to the vault’s construction. The activated cube projected an illusory image of the bog outside alongside four sets of numbers.

Hour, day, month, year. Simon clicked on the various sides of the cube and confirmed he could indeed change them to show different dates. The earliest one available was around six months prior to the start of his reigns, back when the vault was completed. “It will take me a while to find what I seek, Agrat. You are free to study the vault’s enchantments until then, if it pleases you.”

She smiled at him. “Your Majesty is very kind, but I would rather stay here.”

The demoness wished to observe his reactions the way a dog tamer studied a strange new hound. Simon ignored her as he changed the date to the 2nd of Nivose 403; the very night Balzam Magnos died. The picture changed to a more verdant landscape and Magvolian countryside. Normal manatrees were still visible in the distance, including the one where the Goetia Research Facility was located.

The recordings showed nothing unusual on that night, which didn’t surprise Simon much. News of troubles in the capital would take a while to reach Magvolia. He began to move the date forward at a rate of one day per minute.

Worrying details began to show up as early as the 4th of Nivose, when the sensors caught sight of a fleet of airships flying east from the Goetia Research Facility. Louis’ troops were marching onto the imperial heartland months early, which suggested the civil war started as soon as Balzam Magnos perished.

My family slaughtered each other without the edited will or an Overlord to rally around. Simon skipped forward day after day, until he reached the date of the elven bombardment on Frightwall. A small group of Cocagnian airships flew over the bunker less than two days later with Norbelle at the helm to lay waste to the Goetia Research Facility. This is the Oracle’s perfect future.

This must have been the ideal scenario she had anticipated. Louis’ decisive loss in the House Magnos conflict, which ensured he wouldn’t muster his resources against Illusea. Simon’s suspicions were confirmed after he caught sight of White Unicorn pegasus riders flying over the bunker three months later. The organization’s attack had gone off without a hitch, and they likely retook Magvolia.

It was roughly around this time that a contingent of imperial soldiers made its way to the vault and sealed themselves inside it. Simon guessed they were remnants of the army or the Goetia Research Facility’s staff retreating here as per protocol.

Lauriane wasn’t among them. Did his beloved sister even survive the Frightwall bombardment, or the battle that followed the release of the will? Or had she been murdered by that snake Malphas?

I can't let her die. I can’t let any of them die. Simon moved the date forward and skipped ever closer to the Zodiac Parade, before noticing something odd around two months prior to the disaster. This is new…

The sensors caught entire caravans of people traveling near the bunker. Peasants with carts carrying all their belongings, nobles on their horses, and human refugees guided by elves and knights bearing the White Unicorn’s banner.

They seem to be moving towards the manatrees. The flow of people went on for days with birds and other animals flying in the same direction, like a mass migration of some kind. Are they fleeing something?

The groups grew rarer as the date of the Zodiac Parade drew nearer. The very last one was a cortege led by Satine herself, riding on a white horse with a retinue of knights escorting her and a frown upon her face. Whatever was happening bothered her.

Simon gathered his breath as he entered the next date: the 27th of Frimaire 404. The night when the comet Abraxas graced the world with its presence. He switched to the 28th, where it now dominated the sky.

This left Simon puzzled. If this timeline was the result of the Oracle’s plans, then something should happen then. He hadn’t expected something as fearsome as the Mana Goddess rising to cast Abraxas down from the sky, but surely something would have changed. All these population movements had to have a purp—

“The manatrees are gone,” Agrat noted.

Simon frowned, only for his eyes to widen as he paid more attention to the recording. His attention had been so focused on the comet in the sky that he failed to spot a more ominous and telling detail: the great trees that dominated the landscape had disappeared alongside many hills. The horizon was flat and devoid of peaks.

Where… where are they? A terrible feeling sank into Simon’s heart as he frantically moved the date back to the 27th. Rather than move from one day to another, he switched to moving the hours to sunset and then patiently watched the recording unfold in real time. Had they been destroyed?

Night fell upon the recording. Simon ignored Agrat’s scribbling behind him as he waited for Abraxas to show itself. Tremors shaking the ground and forests near the vault heralded the comet’s arrival.

His eyes remained set on the manatrees in the distance. His Dark Visionary senses immediately detected a light that began to radiate from them; a dim light nowhere near as impressive as Belzemine’s halo, yet faintly noticeable.

The manatrees glowed like lighthouses as Abraxas came to bathe the world in darkness.

The great comet manifested in the sky with a baleful aura, blanketing the surface of Brimir in a faint veil of miasma. The tremors grew more intense and caused the images to briefly fizzle out from the magical disturbances in the air. The manatrees shook and wavered, shrouds of dust and mana rising from their base.

“Are they uprooting themselves?” Simon wondered out loud, having never seen something like this happen in previous reigns.

“The manaliths in the ground appear to be undergoing a resonance,” Agrat observed.

“The manaliths in the gro—” Simon’s heart skipped a beat as he remembered where he had seen such a familiar phenomenon. “No way…”

But the images of the past soon proved him right. Great islands of stone rose from the earth, carried upward by manaliths capable of defying gravity itself. The great miracle Lady Junon pulled during the First Doom came to pass again in the Second.

The Magvolian manatrees rose to the sky one after another.

Simon watched in utter disbelief as huge swaths of land ascended into the heavens, carried by the will of their dryads. Dozens, if not hundreds of shining spots lit up the nightly horizon to follow them in a movement too vast and coordinated for a mere unplanned disaster. This was a great migration that spanned the entire world.

Countless Kish Sanctuaries were abandoning Brimir under the faint moonlight.

The pieces fell into place in Simon’s mind, and then he rushed out of the bunker with feverish urgency. He ignored Agrat’s smile, the Watcher guarding the tunnel, and everything else as he ran outside. He transformed into his raven form the moment he emerged from the vault and took flight with righteous fury. He flew upwards past the haze of miasma and pollen that covered the Darkwood, past the toxic clouds, past the many layers of pollution that shrouded the sky from the damned on the ground; and when his raven body lacked for winds to ride, Simon regained his normal appearance and continued his ascent with Darkflight.

Anaximander had once told Simon the elves attempted to reach the moons through teleportation in the past. That information’s true significance had flown over his head back then, but Simon could now see the Oracle and her laying the groundwork for a plan centuries in the making.

The truth was laid bare to his eyes once he finally reached the edge of Brimir’s atmosphere, where Nodens’ Forbidden Keep once floated. Simon looked up into the darkness of the stars and at the once-brownish Earthmoon that currently dominated the night sky.

It was like gazing upon a garden.

Great forests cultivated over hundreds of years now covered the moon’s surface and gave it a verdant makeover. Great manatrees prospered there, surrounded by greenery and artificial lakes. They hadn’t yet covered the entire sphere, but they had spread like a scar across it.

They… they ran… Simon struggled to find the words for such a betrayal. They ran away.

The other moons were too distant at this period of the year for Simon’s eyes to see the details, but he could catch vast patches of greenery on their surfaces. A long journey on floating islands had allowed the elves to succeed where teleportation failed. They had crossed the void of space in a great migration to colonize Brimir’s four moons, bringing along their White Unicorn allies while abandoning the Overlord’s people to their fate.

This was what the Oracle had planned from the start; the great treachery she couldn’t share with even her most devout followers, lest they blow the whistle or rebel.

The elves had left the rest of the planet to die.

“I am the first of the damned, trapped in Hell and looking up at the Heavens.” Simon glared at the moons, searching for the Worldtree that was no doubt hiding on one of them. “The Mana Goddess abandoned her garden to the weeds.”

Simon’s heart swelled with rage greater than anything he ever felt; a fury as hot as the sun, fueled by bitterness and betrayal. He had hoped against all evidence that there was a grander motive behind the Oracle’s actions, that she was ultimately trying to save the world in her own warped way, but now… now he saw the same truth his ancestor glimpsed all those centuries past.

In an elf’s eyes, some lives mattered more than others.

“To the Abyss with all of us, eh?” Simon looked at the wasteland he had now inherited. “So be it. You entrusted this world engulfed in pandemonium to me, and I shall not abandon it.”

But he would not stop there. His hand would mend the wounds of the world, and the shadow of his purpose would pursue those who abandoned it across the stars. There was no place his fury could not reach.

The Oracle had once stared up at the sky with fear in her heart, and Simon would ensure it happened again.

hi angus

The Ravenlord RETURNS!!!

Guy Cina

What a reveal!!! The seeds sown really did pay off (pardon the pun)

Hive Tyrant

Interesting! Those cowards!

MBEx

TFTC!

Akirish

Damn, no wonder Elios turned against Oracle.

Bunny Waffles

Truly a plan befitting a coward like the Oracle. She doesn't even get to stand on her high horse of "The Overlord will consume the world in Miasma" vision when her whole plan from the START was to abandon the world and fuck off to the moon. You don't get to be high and mighty when "running away" is your endgame.

mhaj58

Isn’t it ironic that Simon ran to the Sanctuary while the Oracle ran to the moon? I guess Simon will now try to weaponize the moon

TheMadGent

“I am the first of the damned, trapped in Hell and looking up at the Heavens.” another I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream reference.

Art

Goddamn a planned out time loop story is just amazing. Thanks for being likely my favorite web serial writer.

Antony444

Weeelll...I imagine the opinion of the readership about the Oracle is not going to be improved with this chapter. Yes, no wonder she didn't want to share her plans...running away isn't exactly the 'solution' everyone was going to praise., was it?

Bilbo

Ain't no way Oracle is Golden Pathing this bitch

Noxx

I don't get it? Isn't the reason Abraxas gets closer every time it cycles Brimir is because it's attracted to people's fear and suffering? Won't it just change targets now that the majority of people are on the moons? I think I'm missing something.

Necro

Legit this has to be some of the coolest shit I've read in a while. Just the pure betrayal and rage fueling Simon is amazing. I can just imagine him spending years uniting Brimir under a new Overlordic Empire and bring destruction upon all that the oracle had wrought

ThwartedHalo

This is the perfect place for Simon to get not only a couple of levels but a decent bit of training in with his abilities. The next reign after this one is gonna be a doozy I think

Alibhai

Who do you think would have more fear? People who are living in the sanctuary of the four moons or people who are rotting on the planet surface?

Agoramon

Simon spitting bars

Mehdude

Oh is that why Overlord must die for Oracle? She can run away from Abraxas indifferent cruelty, but not from Overlords furious revenge.

Jasus

To be honest I agree with the Oracle. Why save those that work against you? Why not save those you can save? She has fought for hundreds of years and lost. Better to save a slither than to fight a doommed battle.

Big I

Wow. The worst part isn't even that the elves left everyone to die. It's that taking the manatrees to the moons would lead to ecological collapse on the planet, and screw up the Brimir reincarnation cycle. They literally condemned them all to eternal suffering.

Jasus

To be fair we can all agree that the Oracle has fought a losing battle for many centuries now. Sometimes you simply have to cut your losses.

Noxx

True, but in my head I'm thinking they'd be loads more people in the sanctuary, with low-levels of negative emotions, so it'd even out, compared to the few left on Brimir. Also, wouldn't Abraxas crashing into Brimir cause massive chunks to slam into the moons?

Daedalus

That argument falls a bit flat when the Oracle has actively taken measures to make the outcome worse, sabotaging her allies and arranging for things to be in the absolute worst position they could be when the second Doom comes. The fight is doomed because of her actions, not despite them.

Firefly4545

The Oracle big master plan is to run away like a coward.

Kosta

Wow, Lysandra the coward. How the hell she had the gall to call Elios traitor with this planned?

Andrew Lechner

Time to make the reigns of the previous Overlords look like an Elven Golden Age.

RageBone

I guess this plan of hers requires Belzemine (maybe mana godess) to pull off? I also doubt that Abraxas is only covering Brimir in miasma, they must have something against that. Curious how their civilization now looks like up there. Might be worth a stealthy visit to see how it is.

Alibhai

That's so unique! Usually, in fantasy stories, it's the humans or the dwarves that are technologically inclined, so I would have never thought the elves would take to space. This would also easily explain where all the noble crestones are; the ones that survived probably took them to space. Each moon probably has its own reincarnation cycle now. It's possible the moons still share one cycle, but the distance might be too great now. Also, I have to wonder if there is any travel between the moons. While I understand the anger at being abandoned, I really can't fault them for surviving if they really had no other way to fight back.

A Reader

Belzemine should be dead. She should have committed suicide in her original home

John Schuck

Hope this rein lasts a long time in world

Kyle

What would you expect of tree huggers, cowards all of them.

Vik M.

Can't blame her for all of it, unfortunately. I agree she made things worse, but the reigns of the previous 3 Overlords were pretty awful.

Tobi131313 .

Damn, with this hatred, he might actually find common ground with Elios, and for the first time he has a bargaining chip: he could offer Elios to return to the past with four hundred years worth of research, give it to his previous self. On one hand it would advance Elios research by centuries, and if this proves to work, could be a system used over multiple reigns to ensure Elios cooperation, and Simmon would get one of the most powerful allies who hates the Oracle as much as he does.

Vik M.

Very much a "fuck you, got mine" approach to life.

Logrus

A well foreshadowed conclusion. The Oracle gives no fucks about the world, only Elven-kind.

Expital

Honestly I am impressed by the elves and the Oracle. We already knew Oracle will sacrifice the world for elves. For her saving her human allies comes as a surprise to me. And they found a solution to their every problem, zodiac fiends, overload and might even solve the abraxas collision with bimir on 4th doom. What I don't get is why does she have to be such a bitch in fighting the overload. Is it that she fears that overload will stop here manatress to move up the moon when they start to do so. Or is it that she needs Belzemine to pull this miracle of space program ?

WeAreTheMeta

Damn, that's awesome. Oracle does win without Overlord. For what's it's worth I wonder how many humans are included. White Unicorn sure, but do all of Lore for example get taken on the ride?

granndfunk

Losing*, and losses* Not trying to be a dick, just letting you know

George R

Wow words can not describe my disappointment in dryads and elves

Chad Champion

Only elves and some white unicorn citizens left for the moons, a lot of people admittedly but for sure not enough to counter the rest of the world. Yea Brimir s population definitely went down a lot with the endless war but we dont know the scale of the "breeding" camps situation. Overall... definitely makes sense.

Greenstar Player

Probably why she needed the Overlord gone. The end of the reigns apocalypse vision does not stop on the planet but the whole reality possibly or at least the moons too. So she literally waited and tried to get rid of the one thing that could threaten her space program before abandoning the world to die, both the Zodiacs and ecological collapse resulting from this migration.

thebookman10

I doubt the manaliths across the planet have enough space for everyone. Likely all the elves are priorities and then whatever humans can be onboarded. Remember the oracle knew about Helel and she did nothing when lore when fully all Helel slave soldiers, I doubt she cares about humans as much as elves.

Pedro Henrique

It has been 400 years, they most likely have increased their population to pre-Doom levels.

Aaron R.

In this chapter Simon summons a demon, but was it not said in earlier chapter that this did not work anymore as hell was empty ?

alejandrox

Thank you for the chapter!!! GREAT BETRAYAL!!!! THERE ARE NO WORDS..... THIS IS THE ORACLE'S BETRAYAL OF THE WORLD!!!

Greenstar Player

So holy shit. The Oracle is worse than I thought. Literally abandons Brimir. The worst thing, it makes all sense. That is why she pursues the end of the Overlord so much. Both to avoid interference of the Overlord and the apocalypse vision impacting all of reality therefore her secret space program won't save them as long as that future is around. But also nearly explains how to fix all issues. Zodiac Parade? Well, they can have that planet now. Abraxas? Well, it might hit a moon, perhaps they can make some countermeasures but otherwise might only hit Brimir in the future or perhaps evacuate even further. So their solution is to abandoned Brimir and who knows what and left to die and corrupt under the second Doom and ecological collapse the disappearance of the Mana Trees bring

RageBone

she proably needs belzemine

RageBone

what do you mean?

BramBora

Prelude to Luis themed reign next?

Jasus

The Oracle has lost most of the Noble classes to the Overlord. Her fight has already been doomed since Balzam became Overlord. They already lost against the Fiends with the original Heroes. They would loose even more so and telling Endymions Noble classes were the Demons are sealed would only give them anorher weapon.

Ikra

It kinda improved. At least we know she had a plan and wasn't stupid. Oracle managed to save her people and some allies.

RageBone

the marks ars still there, she has no master then unless those two whats their name, managed to take her away and break the marks. Aftet that its speculation what could have happened

Pradian

Last chapter - "bound most of his demon thralls to summoning amulets for future service"

RageBone

Its probably the fear-breeding camps that ensure Abraxas crashes into brimir.

tehlu

I respect her even more. Young bro might feel cheated because he’s been fighting to save the world for a couple of years; but he can’t imagine what fighting a loosing battle for over 500years would do to a person.

Expital

Void , You seriously need to get this novel animated or something in the future. Just imagining Simon breaking atmospheres to come upon the inhabited moons (with some epic background music) is giving me goosebumps.

RageBone

Might be even worse; With Abraxas possibly being atracted to fear, leaving Brimir and keeping it a hell-hole might be her way of solving the inevitable crash. Swoop back in once brimir is hit to resettle it. Really intrigued to see how their new civilization looks like

Tr0LLach

How did Simon's presence even in the low-key Reigns somehow stop the Oracle from doing this?

Pedro Henrique

Wow, knowing this was her plan all along it just made her that much more of an hypocrite in the ending of Unicorn Overlord, how does this bitch keep an straight face when accusing Simon of being a fiend and a monster that will lead the world to ruin when her chosen strategy was to pick and choose those she wants to save and leave the rest to rot.

Ikra

Just another chapter to prove that Oracle did nothing wrong

ConstanTeen

She saw the end of the reign as true apocalypse which can't be avoided if overlord is alive. Plus, it's hinted that it's personal for her.

Leo S.S.

Damn, now I want to do this reign again when Simon is stronger and can go fuck with the moon colonies. That aside, it’s a pretty decent plan from the Oracle, I get why she did it

Angus Losier

And is entirely correct to do so. Selfish, self-serving, self-justifying hubris. Proof that here, Light isn't the same as good, and Dark isn't the same as evil.

Big I

Simon usually postpones the civil war by sending everyone after the dragon siblings or "Laurent Fakename". The Oracle needs the civil war to happen on her schedule because the timing is so tight. Specifically she needs Louis to lose the war because his agenda is to carpet bomb Ilusea if he wins, and his fiance is an expert in the floating islands.

Turncoat

Total Elven Extinction noooooow

A Zen

Elios and Mardok were there first!

WitherdAway

Hopefully this is the start of the single longest reign. We are only seeing this specific world just this once and an hatred fueled war against the stars seems like good fun.

00Resu

Another reason is probably how an Overlord’s “death” can affect her visions. Simon was gone for over 400 years, so the Oracle was finally able to see the Zodiac Parade in full. It would make sense that she decides to flee. Another point we need to consider is Belz. She’s probably the only hope of healing/replacing the Mana Goddess.

Get In The Batvan

Void’s pen was on fire writing this down. Was not expecting such an impactful chapter. My GOAT

Oarabile t

I'm conflicted, on the one hand the Oracle won and successfully got herself, her people and her allies from a failing centuries long war but on the other hand she damned the world with a significant part of it's population and left it to rot. I guess the Oracle thought the best way to win was to prevent the overlord from keeping the empire together and interfering in her grand migration plan.

Myrdin

I really want to know what happened to the dark dryad, the daughter of Muse. Dark Manatree was supposed to bloom. It looks like something that may be absolutely crucial

Skitterdidnothingwrong

She saved her people and allies and left her mortal enemies and their allies to deal with a disaster. It’s a completely reasonable well executed plan. Simon is only upset because he’s also trying to save the world but she doesn’t trust him (which is extremely reasonable from her perspective, since the overlord is a known liar/betrayer).

Bilbo

Now that I think about it, Oracle could've dealt with Zodiac fiends sometimes dueing last four centuries, and then reclaimed the planet. Not like they can do shit to Oracle backed teleport squads. Wonder what will be up with that.

NoodlyBoi 101

Bro’s about to give the AM monologue when he manages to speak to the Oracle again

Mr-Tanky

Inject the next chapter into my veins please!

CentaureHeart

Well well well, look what the coward did

Scott

400 years of research would mean little to someone with an infinite lifespan, and nothing at all knowing that it'll all vanish when Simon dies.

Diego H.T.

Me hubiera encantado tener este reino antes de Lux Vult solo para ver la interacción entre Oráculo y Overlord!!!!!!

A Reader

I don’t think that password was mentioned exactly, but it makes sense that he knew it because we know that he looked into the bunker project

Rhultal Vox

Easily my new favorite chapter. The reveal, Simon's poetic response, it's all just... *Chef's Kiss*. Truly blew all expectations out of the water with this one.

Navarog

Last time elfs broken her slaves tatoos she killed them and then herself. It was Stone muse regin.

Andreas Finn

I wonder how far Simon has to be in order to send those tree's into the pain dimension?

David Giles

I'd go so far as to say Elios did the right thing. The Oracle is a damned psychopath.

Anonymous

I don’t think she even lasts that long. She probably dies in the Judge vs Warrior grudge match immediately following Balzam’s death reveal

Veli Olcalee

So that's why the oracle needs Belzemine

Algor

what a magnificent development!

Tobi131313 .

considering the first Overlord rose to his reign about 800 years ago, and Elios is from that time, this would be 50% of his total researchtime. that is a hefty bargian!

Sami

I really hope the warlord reign comes after this. I want Simon to ally with the War Party and declare war on Illusea.

Volkhorn

So... she is lvl 68. I wonder if she will gain an extra level somewhere, only to Simon to say: "Nice"

Sami

It seems he didn't bother stopping her in this reign tho. I wonder what he's up to.

Cindermoth

That and we don't know if this was the only plan she had. She probably thought she had succesfully killed the Overlord permanently, and it still didn't change the fate of the world. At that point I can totally understand having to give up and leave. Hells, we can't even completely blame her for not taking everyone with her and focusing on the elves. I doubt it was ever possible to take everyone, and if such choices have to be made then bias is unsurprising. She's an interesting character that is as equally justified as she is mistaken

Sami

She didn't just leave her mortal enemies. She condemned most life on the planet to eternal torment basically by running away and taking all the manatrees with her. She didn't even save all the elves seemingly considering all the dark elves running around. If this was her master plan it's a shitty one.

Emily Gurnavage

And Simon's final thoughts here imply we might see some space battles! I hope shit goes full Gurren Lagann somehow lmao. Reminds me of that situation too much even though its not really very similar at all. Each of the zodiacs that he subjugates can become an arm or leg etc of Simon's fleshy abomination of a golem-mech that he will use to fly to space and to give his golem-mech various powers beyond his usual spells.

Austin Byrd

I think its even worse, looks to me like she deliberately chose to knee-cap Simon and actively worked to usher in the Zodiacs, just so she could save her supremacist races of dryads and elves; in essence, fueling her space program by sacrificing everything else.

Austin Byrd

Which I am so thankful for. So many comments in the earlier chapters of this story had me second guessing that this story would actually have the nuance of Light not equaling Good and Dark not equaling Bad, as well as, the additional dimension Author inserted of Gray morality. All amazing stuff.

Emily Gurnavage

Yea soooome of the loose ends are starting to come together. Afaik the mana trees are the source of life, so I think the planet would die without them even if Abraxis and the Zodiacs hadn't flooded the planet with miasma. Since Elios knew that was her plan for the eventual collision... he ended up making a class to rival her own, and one that could fuck with time/reality. But... Elios never claimed the class himself. Or even seemed to try and influence its holders into actions to save the planet. Why? Why not do that, and if he didn't care about the world, why make it at all? Does Elios even want the planet to somehow live? Did he make the class out of spite, not seeing a way to stop the Oracle and settling just for eternally fucking over her plans? Settling for anything doesn't sound like an Elios action. Has this all already happened (not exactly, but in general), and thats why we see a dead world when Simon fucks with time and the Minotaur sees reality as a prison? Did the elves actually already leave and Simon is in some sort of recreation? But then again - what purpose would that serve? This reveal answers a few long standing questions, but raises even more! Lol

Emily Gurnavage

At least she appears to have taken humans and shifters too, not just elves, from what Simon saw of the refugee caravans. But far from everyone of course.

Emily Gurnavage

It became fairly clear during their fight-talk that the Oracle wants the Overlord dead because she can see the end of each Reign and sees it as the end of everything - including any attempt to escape to the moons. But she thinks its them purposefully causing the end of all things - not the unwilling mechanism that it is. The Overlord must die because no matter how long each Reign lasts, she eventually sees one ending and resetting things. Even when the class passes to a new Overlord, an end is still on the horizon. Note how she spoke about after Simon became the Overlord she saw the end coming sooner than ever before - because Simon isn't as strong, knowledgeable, and ruthless as his father. We know some of Belzam's Reigns didn't end until Simon was like middle aged, even though his last one ended while Simon was fairly young still. So up until the moment Belzam was murdered, the Oracle probably saw things not ending for a few decades. But then it passed to Simon, and suddenly the end is weeks/months/a year away etc.

Austin Byrd

Finally! So thankful we're finding out Oracle and supremacist mana-tree elves actually deserves to get their face kicked in, and Simon is ready to do the deed. How dare they abandon the other children of the mana trees (humans, etc) and consign their souls to hellish eternity. I mean, I guess we already knew it.. They are willing to judgment-bomb the capital city of humans, killing a minimum of tens of thousands of innocents. Even Simon struggles with that level of destruction and he's in a time-loop. But this is the final nail in the coffin. I think this was the final step to convince Simon he 'needs' to rule the planet, not just to control the demons, but to control would-be Oracles. Though tbh I still ship Simon+Oracle. Its gotta be Simon+Oracle or Simon+Cassandra as King/Queen lol

Austin Byrd

She probably took a few token humans and beastkin. Every elf she can. And only after that, fill the rest with humans, beastkin, goblins, etc. And thats actually fine with me - the unforgivable issue is that she's been actively working towards this plan for hundreds of years, even going as far as sabtoging Simons efforts to figure out a better future. She wanted this because she's actively worked towards it. Thats arch-fiend levels of selfishness. Its still very much "fuck you, got mine" which is just pitiful since she claims to be this beacon of goodness.

Alex

Man this story is great. Amazing twist, did not expect it at all!

01anon

TRIGGER? Is that you?!

Sam

Is the moon made of cheese, or lead?

Skitterdidnothingwrong

I’m a fan of ruthless pragmatic hero’s so I like of the Oracles plan. It saves most of her people and allies from the immediate apocalypse and it also keeps them safe from the fallout long term. Considering the damage the parade did to the planet, evacuating might be their best case scenario. Sometimes you’re facing a scenario with no possible victory and need to mitigate the damage as much as possible. Simon becoming the Overlord might end up changing the game (assuming he can stay sane while committing atrocities to raise his level)

Magical Hobo

Welp that seals the deal for any chance of Simon X Oracle.

Alexdav115 Soviet

This is the perfect regin for Simon to say to the Oracle once he takes over and invades the moons "I am a Monument to all of your Sins" for abandoning the planet to the Zodiacs

Aglovale Sempai

I feel like this is the perfect precursor to a War Party Reign because Simon definetely isn't going to be very tolerant of Illusea after this

Atk

What is the significance of the passcode?

Felix H.

Like Simon i had though the Oracle had a mislead but at least decent plan at hand, that needed the Overlord removed. But to think that the plan all along was to doom the world so the elves could throne above...she would not look out of place sitting next to maldrok, gaurgath and Balzam. Let there be no remorse for her wicked ways

Big I

It seems to be a reference to "The Perfect Run", one of the author's previous stories.

Gabriel Soares

Dude, Elios is evil, as were the Overlords. Don't look at hipocrisy and use it to justify unapologetic evil.

Unlisted Pokémon Hudson

I don’t think that’s what she was trying to do cuz she still did take members of other races. Definitely didn’t give a crap about stopping the Fiends though.

Unlisted Pokémon Hudson

It’s not that bad she did save a ton of people and they can definitely rebuild on the moon and recover slowly. I don’t like how people are framing the action as genocidal because it’s clear she brought humans and other races with her. It makes sense not to stay back and try to fight the Fiends in the Second Doom risking full annihilation and zero chance of reviving any race.

tharindu prasad

I can't blame her. And I can't blame him for hating her for this. One will doom some people, to save others, in a losing battle. Other will never stop trying. They just have different perspectives

Darius Rochemore

All praise the OverGoat XDD , seriously this title is too incredible to be forgotten. we need petition to change sheperd to overgoat

SusshiRoll

It's okay Simon the Trash will forgive the Oracle and allow them to escape because that is what he is.

samspeeds

There's nothing bad you can do to the elves that is wrong

JoBer

Apparently in contrast to most other readers I really like this development and gained respect for the oracle Her plan has a viable endgame and it explains why she cares about the Overlord but not about the fiends. Also the plan seemed to have worked pretty good, since they lived on the moons for four centuries now
