My opinion on Unity after 2 months:

- I really like the quality of the assets.

- I would have loved to make a game in this environment:https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/polygon-office-low-poly-3d-art-by-synty-159492

I would have liked a rpg type of movement to be free to go where you want in the level. The level could have been in 3D with very nice camera/video effects and very fast to generate.

- The naninovel tool was very appealing to me:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/game-toolkits/naninovel-visual-novel-engine-135453

Possibility to make bubbles, environments with different level of depth.Lots of functionality already coded. (phone, etc). and a much better potential than Renpy.

The big problem:

You can import Daz into Unity, but you can't do the reverse. Unity to daz.

As a result, this causes big problems to make images under daz and import them into the Unity game.

In summary:

- Either I do everything in Unity, without daz (but I don't have the level to animate or manipulate the characters in Unity)

- Or I can't use Unity assets. (and in this case, the interest is very limited).

I was thinking of generating the scenery in Daz, and importing it as a Tilemap, and generating the characters in daz from above.

Solution:

So I'll do something else. I will make a map seen from above, and allow the movement in Renpy.I will propose you something soon.

Information for the next game, the place :

Concerning the location, at first, I was thinking of "redoing" it in an office, but my wife pointed out to me that it would be nice to change a bit.

So I propose a tourist place on an island where the story will be set in a holiday club.

This will allow a lot of funny situations and will make us travel.

---------------------- FRENCH VERSION ------------------------------

- L'outil naninovel me faisait beaucoup envie :https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/game-toolkits/naninovel-visual-novel-engine-135453

Unity to daz.

Solution :

Eric.

This is certainly going to be interesting. Unity's versatility and quality of assets have made it one of the most popular solutions for building games, but so far I found most results underwhelming when it came to VNs. A specialised solution like Renpy offers more comfort through basic features, while most Unity VNs suffer from at least one of the following problems: bad save game handling (too few slots for extended multi-route story lines, bad save game naming, ...), lack of customisation (like slow scrolling text with no option to increase the speed for fast readers or opaque dialogue boxes with no option to change the opacity), clunky UI (worst example: I remember one game, not its name though, that had a full minute of uninterruptable disclaimers when it started and whenever you went back to the main menu; other games often use a UI that might fit mobile devices but look hideous on a large screen). A few Unity VNs were actually quite good, but it showed that they were developed by devs with a lot of experience with Unity and UI design. Naninovel looks interesting, because from what I could see at a first glance it adresses many of those problems by providing basic VN functionality out of the box. As for your plans to do the new game in Renpy: I'm looking forward to seeing what you came up with. I do hope though that it will offer mouse control and not require arrow keys and weird key combinations like a certain four-letter-stone-age-engine that shall not be named. :D Have fun!

You're right. Mouse only is important :) thanks for your message !
