Awe I really hope you'll try again with another cockatiel. But it's funny how this all worked out. Clyde really did find the person for him and goodness, he is thriving. Glad to see him go to a home with two adorable male budgies. This is my same exact set up! I have a male cockatiel and two male budgies. Life is good.

My true hope is to see Capri work with a cockatiel! In general I hope you guys all haven't been turned off of them. This whole situation just wasn't set up to be the most successful it could be - and hey, we're only humans. Hope you'll try again with a cockatiel, and I truly wish Clyde the best possible life ever, and it seems he might have found just that!!! We love you, Cyde!!

Lee Morgan

Thanks for being eal. You rock.

Lee Morgan

That is real -not eal.

Anyone who has anything negative to say clearly doesn't understand you or how much you do. You did really well with Clyde, in spite of what you had going on. I know exactly how mental health can affect my training with birds. Or even if I'm pushed for time. They can pick up on it and be resistant. And you know letting go and reflecting is one of our most powerful attributes as human beings. Because we can learn from our experiences as we continue to grow. I appreciated all the cockatiel work as I have one. Know you are always supported in this community ❤️

Larry, Steve, and Clyde. He was MEANT to be part of that flock. The name if for no other reason, it just FITS. Animals come into our lives in different seasons for different reasons. What a convoluted way for him to meet his forever person. What are the chances they would've met in just the right way? I'm not big into looking for the bigger reason for things but this one kinda waves at me. 🤷 At the end of the day, Clyde won!!!!!!

Sherry mathes

Haha I love it. Definitely fate. No offense to anyone who might take offense but someone who named her birds Steve and Larry was for sure destined for a cockatiel named Clyde. Plus he seems so very happy with his new family and we know his diet if it isn’t yet will be awesome ( psst... her mom is Patty 😝). Btw yes you go through life stuff and struggle just like us mortals do but I'm not sure I could've been insightful enough to know that that was the best outcome for Clyde. Now because of you, Clyde is living his best life. To me that is definitely a successful project bird story.

Holden Kendrick

So excited for Clyde and his new flock! He looks super happy with his new life. 🥰🥰🥰

Janene Gscuba

Warms my heart! Clyde was meant to go to her. All of us are "like duh Steve, Larry, Clyde, of course! " lol.

Wendy Cottingham

Such a happy ending!! I love that Clyde fell in love with her. I know when my energy isn't the best I don't work on training and sometimes I don't spend the time with my birds that day because I will get bit. I have learned that over time! I do much better when my head space and energy are where they need to be! You did great with Clyde with what you were dealing with!!❤️❤️❤️

Brickelle Gregory

Omg... I'm literally crying. I don't think there could have been a happier outcome!

Beckie Child

Thanks for being real, Jamie. So many life lessons in this video. Go gently with you all!

Janie

So happy for Clyde!!

You know this reminds me of when I first started working with my African Grey Chako, I was mortifyingly depressed, going into adulthood, grieving the loss of my dad, and I was so stressed while dealing C-PTSD and mental health, at the time I felt like I had to do it because there wasn’t anybody else in my family that was up for caring for him and I didn’t want to give him away (this days I feel like I chose to say yes to taking him under my care, and expanding my zoology interests from dogs and cats to birds too and opening up for forming a new relationship with a bird I knew all of my life and was totally different than what I was told he were like, it was meant to be.), it was ROUGH. I wasn’t in an ideal position to change a life of other being, I messed up a lot, but some how this time still set me and Chako up for successful future, and it was worth it. Don’t go so hard on yourself, you were an impactful stepping stone and guider for little Clyde, you weren’t as open for love but you showed up when you could, and I bet that was important for Clyde, and possibly for you too, to experience this. You really were doing something special in a moment of chaos, not a bit of easy, you created room for something special, even though you couldn’t really feel as rewarded, I feel like you might be able to visit your dear friend and see how much room for wonder you created in Clyde to be receptive to his new person and be a happy bird. I promise you you be glad that you were in for the experience. This is truly real life experience with all the shades of the rainbow, including rain, but there’s a little bit of light in this experience, and that light was impactful and pure.

Jaimie, please know that you are supported ALWAYS! Anything negative, just DELETE it! PERIOD! We ALL have struggles and real life things that go on! It is your HONESTY that made this whole journey the SUCCESS that it is! And absolutely YES, birds pick their humans! Mine sure did! But that doesn't mean that I don't struggle with them from time to time, particularly when I am going thru something, and it is YOU GUYS that I turn to for help because I can count on that honesty! This is real life, and the struggles are real, and you & Dave have made a place to go for real help without the judgement, and harm, that comes with that! There's NO WAY that should EVER be turned back against you! Just like the other comments, Clyde was MEANT to go to that mom! Just his name is a fit right in with that human & feather family! And honestly, I think maybe, had you been home, and been available, you may have hesitated to let Clyde go because you hadn't finished with him yet, and he clearly is where he was meant to be! You are 100% right, it all turned out PRECISELY as it was meant to be, and doing anything differently, would have resulted in a different ending, and there is NO better ending than this one! Please keep up the amazing work! So many of us count on you, both of you, but even more, we LOVE YOU!

Terri Malen

Jamie, omy you're Human! Lol I never thought you were failing with Clyde! In fact, I learned so much watching you and your struggles and Clyde's struggles! Just giving you all the love and support I feel for you, your family and your flock! Keep working with those birds that need you so much thus giving your peoples that energy, experience and intelligence you share with us!

BirdTricks

Thank you all for your kind words and support. Know I’m reading them all and feeling the love immensely 🥰❤️

This one hit me right in the feels. I adopted a 21 year old umbrella cockatoo in May, and then my husband died unexpectedly in July. I've been struggling so hard to be the person I want to be for this bird, but some days it's all I can do to get him out of his sleep cage and into his day cage with some foraging options, much less any kind of training. Trauma makes it so hard to think through things like you normally can do. Fortunately, this cockatoo is actually a really sweet boy, and I look forward to the bird he'll be when I can get back to being the human he needs.

Oh goodness, Heather, I can’t imagine what you’re going through during this but I am grateful this video had an impact on you. Luckily, parrots are quite resilient and he will be there when you’re ready. Xo

It sounds like you now realise it was for the best that Clyde went when and where he did, but was there a moment when you found out, where it annoyed or upset you because you weren’t finished? I know I wouldn’t have the emotional stability to deal if someone did something like this without my knowledge. I’m not saying that your friend did the wrong thing here at all, I just understand that it must be a massive shock, getting off your cruise, thinking you’re going to be picking up Your project bird within the next couple of days, and suddenly finding out that you aren’t. I mean, I’ve had a couple of situations where I’ve been emotionally preparing myself for one situation with my animals, and something completely different has happened, and it’s been really hard. One time we were looking to cut down on Birds, and I had someone come to look at one bird and they ended up going home with a completely different one. And another time, over 10 years ago now, I used to breed chinchillas, and I had my heart set on keeping one of the babies as this particular litter had been a real emotional rollercoaster, but we had someone come, who wanted a same-sex pair, and the only possible same-sex pair included the one I wanted to keep, so in the interest of the animals, and to save the new owners the stress of having to introduce a second chinchilla to one of my babies, I had to let them take the one I was going to keep, and the other female. I don’t think I ended up keeping any from that litter in the end, if memory serves. Both times, I at least had a bit of warning that this was happening, and in the case of the bird, actually had time to think about it overnight. But still, it’s super difficult, whether you know about what’s happening in advance or not. I hope Clyde is still doing well in his new home and I’m glad it worked out for the best.

It was funny because when I got bombarded with all the messages of like "omg patty needs to get ahold of you about Clyde!" I was like, she would never just give him away or make a decision without talking to me first... and then she did lol and after I talked to her I definitely understood why. I think my only regret was that I didn't create more content with him or take the footage when I had the chance. I never really got to show the impact he had on Blueberry my budgie and our relationship and there was a lot I wanted to share that I never took footage of because I had the mindset of "oh I will do it when I get home" and then that time never came around. So I definitely regret not taking more footage of everything before I left, but I do think that it was all for the better and there was much more of a sense of relief than anything. Honestly, Adrienne was more capable of getting him to make drastic forward changes than I was and it was in his best interest and that's all that matters.

In all fairness, I suspect had it been anybody else, you’re right, she wouldn’t have given him away. She would’ve made the person wait until you were home, partly to make sure you’re happy with it, and partly so that you could help assess whether it was the right home. It’s a bit different because it was her daughter. I agree that more Cockatiel content would be fantastic, but don’t be too hard on yourself that it didn’t happen as much as you would’ve liked this time. Do you think you’d take on another Cockatiel given the right bird at the right time?

I think I'm always open to any species honestly, it's all about timing for me so that I can properly quarantine away from my own flock (which is easiest in summer months when they stay at my folks property) and not have a lot of travel plans as well.
