I've been meaning to make a video about the Casio SK-1 for ages, and now I finally have!

Casio SK-1: A legendary lo-fi sampler from 1986 is still worth it

I've been watching for years now, but this video is what made me finally pull the trigger and join your Patreon! Thanks Dave for all the great stuff you make. I commented on the YT vid, but I'll comment here too: I'd love to see a video about the Yamaha VSS 30. Sigur Ros used it to sample vocals in a very similar way to what you did in this vid.

Thanks for becoming a patron! I've been on the lookout for a VSS 30 for a while. If I ever find one locally, I will definitely do a video. :)

Yes, I agree! My thinking is it's always possible to get rid of some of the high frequencies myself if I want to, but I can add them in if they're missing. Isn't the VL-1 great?

1,4 sec You could sample the complete song You suffer by Napalm Death with it

This video actually inspired me to buy an SK-1 on ebay for $120 (admittedly overpaying) but I am in love with the thing. I really think it helped me get creative with my sampling, even made a weird song with it already (sorry if I shouldn't link it, just thought I'd share) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm8ISXpEYWA Your vids help push my songwriting so thank you David. I'd be happy to support the Patreon!

Thanks for posting this! I hadn't seen mods for reasonable things like this, I've seen either leave it stock or circuit bend/mod it to be almost unrecognizable. I did the mod on mine and it does indeed sound much better! A no-brainer if you have one, I think. Although it's a little fiddly to install I think. I wonder if playing with different resistor values or putting a pot in place of a single resistor would allow more range or options.
