In early 2022, I bought a Novation Nova at a flea market for $42. I smiled all the way home, thinking I'd gotten the deal of the century. It came with a bunch of cables, among which I assumed I would find the power supply. Alas, it wasn't long before I realized that not only was the power supply missing, but replacing it would be very hard. Novation no longer makes them and they have a very strange, non-standard configuration. Anyway, after six months, I was finally to make my own power cable and get it working. And you know what? It's a great synth!

In this sample library, I pair the Novation Nova with the Meris LVX, a fantastic reverb/delay multi-effects pedal. The sounds are mostly in the synthwave / vaporware realm, but there are a few interesting outliers. Hope you enjoy this!

Kinda John Carpenter-esque. Thanks David. Happy to be a patreon.

I wonder if the MIDI input has an optoisolator to prevent incoming power from frying things.

I was thinking about it after I said that, and there must be _some_ kind of protection to prevent that sort of thing–otherwise it just seems like using a DIN connector would be too irresponsible a decision. :)

I want to say an optoisolator is a standard thing on a MIDI interface, but that’s only because I read a webpage that said so as part of a tutorial on building one. Anyway, this sounds lovely, and I can’t wait to try it out!

The only patreon thingy I kept - some just make you feel a bit "taken for granted". Great idea to have patron sounds in the instrument! Super convenient. And thank you for this.

Interesting. Someone who was moving overseas gave me an UltraNova, which I probably wouldn't have bought myself, but hey, free synth.

dhilowitz

it’s really a surprisingly nice synth engine

Yes, true. There are a few things I really like about it -- the mod matrix, the navigation is well organized. Tons of envelopes. It's a trance oriented bit of gear and that's not really the vibe I'm generally going for. and the VST editor is cool. But because it's also an audio interface, it doesn't play well with my workflow.
