Chapter 72 (Patreon)

After months of reconstruction, Tokyo Jujutsu High finally stood again.
For some reason, it had been rebuilt almost exactly the same as before.
No one really understood why.
But according to Masamichi Yaga, it had to be the Jujutsu High everyone remembered.
And today should have been just another ordinary day.
After the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zen’in, and the others had begun taking missions together, exorcising cursed spirits one after another.
“Sigh… seriously, what the hell is this?”
“Right? Just because they hit someone from the Kyoto school, suspension is really necessary?”
“If you ask me, it’s obvious. Tokyo doesn’t have anyone among the higher-ups. Kyoto’s principal is connected to them, so now they think they can do whatever they want.”
Two assistant managers from Tokyo Jujutsu High walked side by side, quietly complaining.
“Suspension?”
Ragnar Kagenou, who had just happened to pass by, paused.
A moment later, he headed straight for Masamichi Yaga’s office.
...
“What brings you here?”
Yaga looked at Ragnar with a faint trace of nervousness.
He knew this man well enough by now.
Whenever Ragnar involved himself in something, it usually stopped being a small matter.
And recently, Yaga had already heard rumors that Ragnar had killed two members of the jujutsu higher-ups.
So naturally, seeing him appear out of nowhere made Yaga’s eyelid twitch.
Ragnar glanced at him.
“Relax. I’m just here to ask about Kyoto.”
Hearing that, Yaga finally let out a quiet breath.
If it was only asking for information, then it should still be manageable.
Probably.
“I heard two of our third-years were suspended by Kyoto,” Ragnar said calmly. “Apparently, they beat up some conservatives from the Kyoto side?”
The moment Yaga heard that, his expression darkened.
He sighed.
“You even heard about that? Yes. That’s basically what happened.”
Ragnar sat down on the sofa, tilted his head slightly, and looked at him.
“Is Tokyo Jujutsu High really that weak?”
Yaga’s brow twitched.
“People from another school say they’re suspending our students, and you actually let them?”
Yaga coughed once.
“After what happened with you, Kyoto’s principal gained more influence among the higher-ups. Tokyo doesn’t have anyone there right now, so certain things… have to be handled carefully.”
Ragnar nodded slowly.
“So Kyoto’s conservatives are that impressive.”
“Don’t do anything reckless,” Yaga said immediately. “They may have gone too far, but technically, our students struck first. On paper, we’re the ones at fault.”
“At fault?” Ragnar raised an eyebrow. “So what if our side hit them?”
Yaga’s face stiffened.
“How many special grades does Kyoto have?” Ragnar asked. “They’re acting this arrogant with what exactly?”
Yaga’s mouth twitched.
“Don’t solve everything with violence. We are, at the very least, civilized people.”
Ragnar looked at him for a moment.
“I don’t particularly care about the students who were suspended,” he said. “I just don’t understand where Kyoto got the confidence.”
His voice stayed calm, almost indifferent.
“They don’t have a special grade. They only have old men hiding behind connections. And somehow, they started believing that was enough to act lawless?”
Yaga pressed his fingers against his brow.
“How about this? I’ll speak with Kyoto again and see whether they’re willing to revoke the suspension.”
Ragnar gave him a flat look.
Yaga immediately frowned.
“What is that look supposed to mean?”
“Nothing.”
Ragnar stood up.
“I happen to be free. I’ll go to Kyoto and take a look.”
“Wait—”
Before Yaga could say anything else, Ragnar had already turned and left.
Yaga stared at the closed door for a while before sighing.
“…Forget it. I just hope Kyoto still has some survival instinct.”
Thinking about it carefully, Tokyo currently had three special grades holding the fort.
Kyoto had none.
Their only advantage was influence among the higher-ups.
If things really turned physical, Kyoto had no chance at all.
...
On the way out, Ragnar ran into Satoru Gojo.
Gojo raised a hand with his usual careless grin.
“Yo, Ragnar. You look busy. Another mission that needs the great you to handle it personally?”
“Nothing major,” Ragnar replied without changing expression. “Just a small trip to Kyoto.”
“Kyoto?”
Gojo’s smile paused slightly.
“What are you going there for?”
As he spoke, he scratched his messy white hair.
Ragnar glanced at him instead.
“Forget that. You seem unusually happy lately.”
Gojo’s mood instantly brightened.
“Oh, you noticed?”
He walked over, naturally trying to hook an arm around Ragnar’s shoulder.
“You remember Fushiguro Megumi, right?”
Ragnar thought for a moment.
“The kid who fights like he’s trying to tear someone apart? His sister was cursed and fell into a coma, wasn’t she?”
Gojo snapped his fingers.
“That’s the one.”
“So what happened? Don’t tell me he got attacked by a cursed spirit.”
“No, no.” Gojo waved his hand with a grin. “In two months, that kid is officially joining Jujutsu High.”
Ragnar looked at him.
“Two months? Why not now?”
Gojo rubbed his chin.
“Well… he probably wants to spend more time with his sister. She’s still unconscious, after all. The kid’s had it rough.”
Ragnar nodded.
“That’s not bad. When the time comes, I’ll watch his entrance exam.”
The two chatted for a while after that.
When Ragnar was about to leave, Gojo suddenly called out.
“Wait, Ragnar.”
Ragnar stopped and turned around.
“What?”
Gojo pointed toward the infirmary.
“Shoko was looking for you. If you’ve got time, you should stop by.”
“Shoko?”
Ragnar followed the direction Gojo pointed, muttering softly.
“What does she need me for?”
Still, he didn’t hesitate.
“Fine. I’ll take a look.”
With that, Ragnar changed direction and walked toward the infirmary.
Ieiri Shoko had barely shown herself these past few days.
That was probably because too many sorcerers had been injured during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.
And among all the sorcerers at Jujutsu High, Shoko was the only one who could use Reverse Cursed Technique to heal others.
Having hundreds of injured people waiting for a single person to treat them…
Even for her, that had to be exhausting.
“It’s quiet.”
Ragnar walked through the empty corridor.
“There aren’t even that many people in this school. Why did they make it this big again?”
Tap. Tap.
He stopped in front of a door.
“Hm. This should be it.”
Ragnar raised his eyes and looked at the metal sign fixed to the doorframe.
The infirmary.
