This was an odd episode. Much heavier tones and different pacing.

Tensions are brewing between lots of the characters and I'm concerned as to what will be the boiling point...

Enjoy!

Below Patreon seems to be auto moderating comments about Jane... no idea why never happened before. Just letting you know I'm not the one doing that 🤣

Gemma is Roy speaks her mind and talented as hell and stands up for her teammates. Arrogance isn't what plays in her attitude its her past relationship with Alice.

Also Jane is batshit crazy she was always crazy but this is absolutely insane!

BTW never apologize for pausing sorta wish more reactors paused to talk instead of talking over important dialog.

I’d like to use a rhyme to sum up my thoughts… Willis Beard Jayne’s Weird 😳

4x5 notes I don’t find Ted eating alone to be sad. I actually prefer eating alone and keeping socializing separate. I agree with Chief O’Brien from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. “You try to combine talking and eating, you’re doing neither thing well.” Of course, maybe I’m just deeply sad and can’t see it. Poor Higgins. He gets stuck so frequently. Looking at the board, Ted has El Sharif listed as “The Sheriff”, and has misspelled both of the twins’ names. I’m trying to figure out why Alice seems troubled by the team prying into Ted’s life. Is it because it’s unprofessional, or intrusive, or because she’s upset none of them have shown any interest in her. I kind of think it’s the lattermost. She seems to deliberately isolate herself. Even in jail, while the team partied, she sat on her own. Is it because she can’t seem to connect with them, or because she’s upset none feels the need to establish boundaries? I do think she’s going a bit Nate. While Roy and Keeley were chatting in the corridor, there’s a guy placing the men’s kits on their lockers, and it’s not Will. He’s also seen later putting the bags in the team bus. I really think Will has departed. Maybe, if Nate left on better terms to coach his own team again, perhaps he poached Will? Is it bad that when Matthijs said he was moving to London, the first thing I said was “What about your boat?!” Ok, Alice wasn’t coaching Shannon, she was bullying her… but, Gemma not running the laps when Alice told them to run them, it leaves Alice nowhere to go but to escalate. She’s got authority that isn’t being acknowledged. Ted’s not gainsaying Alice’s authority with the barbecue analogy. He’s just giving her a little feedback to lower the heat a bit. The first appearance of Ted’s biscuits this season. Rebecca’s freakout in the biscuits scene shows the wounds from Rupert haven’t fully healed. They might never. I genuinely hate Jane. She’s so damned toxic. Faking a pregnancy to trick Beard to marry her is unforgivable. That Beard keeps going back to her just really emphasizes that Beard doesn’t like himself very much. We learned that much in Beard After Hours. FFS, her surname is literally Pain. Her perception that Ted wanted her is so damned egomaniacal. I was not familiar with the whistling being bad luck thing. I have to think this scene with the stage manager is leading to something. Is Ted going to wind up dating her? If he does, he is out of practice with the wooing. I think Matthijs’s reaction is all down to Jelka. I’d guess that she got caught between him and her mother while their relationship dissolved, and the feeling that Rebecca would use Jelka as an informational source for their relationship triggered unpleasant associations for him. I hope they can get past this. I’m guessing the commentators for the game are real ones, like the previous series had for the men’s team? Barbara is always funny, but she can’t read a room. I do love that she delights in making the employees feel like they are in trouble, and that she’s concerned Keeley isn’t having fun like she should be. I love Tracy Ullman, but I get the impression Zelda is going to be a villain for this season. I just think she’s got motives she hasn’t revealed yet. Rebecca is really a fun drunk. It’s amazing how well this show does with moments of emotional honesty. Tanya Reynolds’ performance as Alice reacting to Ted’s locker room speech is just all done with her face, and it’s wonderful. I will need someone to explain “a Robby or a Gary” to me. Does Niamh’s trying to kick the ball away from the goal, but it going in count as an “own goal” or just an error of some sort. Ted actually trying to prevent Alice from going the Nate route? Would he try to get Nate to talk to her? He might actually get where she’s at. For some reason, the first time I watched this, I thought Keeley and Rebecca were going to kiss, and I was freaking out, because I don’t want to see Rebecca ever hook up with Keeley or Ted, because friendships are important. Watching it the second time, I didn’t get the feeling that they were going to, and now I’m wondering why my anxiety went there.

I totally agree with your take on coaching, and Gemma’s attitude. Like it or not, coaches are meant to drive their players hard, and the players should be driving themselves and each other. You don’t undermine a coach like that in front of everyone. That seriously damages team cohesion. Ted should have been all over that, backing up Alice and then talking to her privately if he thought she needed correction. As for Jane… she’s an abusive lunatic and hopefully the writers address that, quickly and directly.

I think Jane’s purpose in the plot is to illustrate how Ted respects the boundaries between him and Beard. Contrast how Ted speaks to Alice at the end because Alice is not just hurting herself, whereas Beard is.

I think Jane's role in this show is simply to be the nemesis beard needs to personally overcome. She is 100% loathesome.

I so very agree that Talking to Alice would be a great way to introduce a Nate cameo for this season. Also the Rebecca and Keely thing I kind of thought it too but that's just my lascivious mind doing it's thing. :D

I found it odd at first that it looks like Lizzie is captain on the team considering she is the latest addition, then thinking on it, it is a new team so they've all roughly been there same amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

I kinda understand Alice but (and this applies to me as well) If you cut yourself off from people and always keep them at a distance, eventually they will do the same to you. /// Let Higgins speak! /// Gemma is right in what she's trying to do but wrong in how she's doing it and - Alice isn't wrong but wrong in how she did it /// Don't feel bad for Keeley here /// See Jane. See Jane Go Batshit Looney Toons (Grrrr) /// And now it's gone sideways - they can't keep bringing them together (wtf?) makes me hate Beard /// Reb and Captain is weird how it flows - don't get it /// Did they write a bunch of stuff then randomly strike bits out? ///Also: I don't like the character "Zelda" - at this point it just doesn't seem necessary . /// How I feel right now at the finish is that this may be my least fave episode so far. That may change once I've had time to let it all sink in. Either way, see ya at the next one. Thanks, Claudie.

I’m finally making it to episode 5 😅 I’m only a week late…
