Small Talk I’ve been lucky in this life to meet so many people. Most have been amazing, fascinating and lovely. Though a few stuck out to me for the wrong reasons. The type of folks who don’t associate with “certain people” of a “certain class”. As someone who had very humble beginnings… that never sat well with me. The kind of people who would want nothing to do with me if my work wasn’t their entertainment. Obviously, we never remain friends after that! Here’s the words: You say you don’t like small talk. Am I to be impressed? To treat this as a privilege, flattered I’m not wasted breath? Is there a hierarchy of conversation Or company to keep? Is this a confession Of modus operandi? An explanation to enamour me? I mean, I too, don’t care for weather Politics or news. But that’s not how you meant it, it’s how you pick and choose. Who is worthy and who is not. To be blessed by your presence, converse with whom you envy and the rest are Evanescent. You say you don’t look backwards, or pacify the past But life’s a game and not race, there is no coming last. It’s seems to me, that you wish to be. Stood upon a podium. Celebrated and segregated from where your roots once hailed from. For you too once came from nothing, though not enough to know want. Adorned your plastic jewels on a body never gaunt. Yes you have known hunger but a different kind to most. You may starve for wish fulfilment but eat caviar and toast. You say that you hate small talk, but I can read between the lines. You wish to keep companions of only your own kind. I hope you enjoy! If you do, don’t forget to share it!
