For all my fellow hyper-sensitive observers. If you’ve ever shared a home with someone who sets off your fight or flight, then you’ll understand the mood of this little poem. Never knowing which version of the person will be coming home at the end of the day. So you end up learning how to read the signs of their mood before they talk to you. There’s no winning. If you approach them meekly in a good mood they’ll ask you “what’s wrong?” And if you approach them jovially on a bad day… well if you know you know.

Don’t forget to share when it’s live 💗

Jekyll & Hyde and seek (Poem)

For all my fellow hyper-sensitive observers. If you’ve ever shared a home with someone who sets off your fight or flight, then you’ll understand the mood of this little poem. Never knowing which version of the person will be coming home at the end of the day. So you end up learning how to read the signs of their mood before they talk to you. There’s no winning. If you approach them meekly in a good mood they’ll ask you “what’s wrong?” And if you approach them jovially on a bad day… well if you know you know. Here’s the words to follow along to; Jekyll & Hyde and seek I can’t control your feelings And apparently neither can you Red lights, warning signs Allude who I’m sleeping next to It’s in how you turn the key Or a handle brushed by hate No mercy for the cupboards With baited breath I wait Deciphering your footsteps As you make your way up stairs If Heavy more than hallow Then best I’d be prepared There bode no joy in a lovers greeting, Or in a hallway hello, Nothing attained from window waving, Or in a welcome home You catch more flys with honey But you curdle hope like milk Sometimes you taste vinegar The days you don’t, it’s guilt It’s not always the iron fist That awaits me in the hall On occasion it’s a velvet graze An emotional rohypnol For I’ll do it all again, In the morning when I rise I wonder who will hold me Be it Jekyll or do I Hyde I hope you enjoy! Listening to how hard the front door was closed. If he took the boots of at the door or droppedthem on the chair. If he greated the dogs when he got home. I wouldn't dare speak until i sussed him out. Getting verbally abused for daring to be in a good mood. Dude my ass would get screamed out of the house for laughing on the wrong day. Fun times. You're a damned good writer bud.

The word 'poignant' comes to mind here. Like a bruise, there is a tenderness that reminds us of what could be or shouldn't be. Powerful poem Janet!

Love it! Reminds me of a poem I saved from the poet Rumi “the guest house” (comment from me - each human is one…a container) It ends: “The dark thought, the shame, the malice. Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes. Because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” ✨

I'm sorry but words are just failing me today, Thank you for sharing your tour photos. They have been a helpful distraction this week. Enjoy your time, stay safe.

That's a beautiful poem, Janet: a wonderful (but sad) depiction of what it feels like to be in an emotionally abusive relationship, when you always have to anticipate the fluctuating moods of your partner. 😢😢😢

Incredibly beautiful words from an undeniable talent. My goodness, it would bring a tear to a glass eye
