My Confessional album is three years old this week! So much has happened since its release, I listened it to all while on the road in Australia and it brought back so many memories of making the album, and I still love it. Hope you enjoy 'Speak' (in whatever way you can!) and share it tomorrow when it's live! J x

Speak - Janet Devlin

I’m always shocked by how hard it is to sing this one. Not because it’s technically difficult but because I still feel the pain of my 15 year old self. The violation and breach of trust. To be betrayed in a way that no person ever should. I’m sorry if this song resonates with you, but if it does I’m sending all my love your way. We’re more than the actions of someone else. We’ve got this. I hope you enjoy (in whatever way someone does with a track like this…)! If you do, don’t forget to share it! Sharing is caring after all. SPEAK Oh Danny boy, I thought that we were friends Oh Danny boy, you’re drinking again And I’m wearing the red dress, but I’m not asleep And I never said yes, do you know what that means? Oh Danny boy, I’m living here in silence Cause it’s our little secret It’s our little secret, it’s our little secret Under the sheet, I shouldn’t keep I’m not ready to speak Oh Danny boy, the meadows are in bloom Oh Danny boy, oh how I trusted you Now there’s blood on the roses, a broken bouquet The flowers are dying, they shrivel in shame Oh Danny boy, I couldn’t tell the truth Cause it’s our little secret It’s our little secret, It’s our little secret Under the sheet, I shouldn’t keep But you can’t see the bruises and I’m the one who loses I cannot speak your name But I’ve started writing These words that I’ve been fighting So no-one has to say That it’s our little secret, it’s our little secret, it’s our little secret Under the sheet, I will not keep Cause I’m ready to speak Listen! https://lnk.to/janetdevlin Follow! https://linktr.ee/janetdevlin Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel - https://goo.gl/XLtVKC & ENABLE 🔔 to receive notifications when I upload new videos!

I feel this song every time I hear it..... It resonates so much with me, and as we talked about in Melbourne, both our pasts have had so much in common. And this song in particular has helped me so much over the last few years.. Thank you ..

This song always crushes me. Anything I could say would be inadequate. I'm in awe of you for being able to write this song, and sing it so beautifully. I'm angry that you ever had to. 🤟❤️

I really love this song for the way you have turned something horrible into something creative! I love both the Confessional album & the My Confessional book, which are both treasured possessions of mine! Keep enjoying your best life & I hope to see you again soon!

This song always leaves me with a deep ache in my heart. I can feel the pain and betrayal of your story. Yet, the lesson of sharing at the end brings a sense of hope for the future. Thank you for this.

A tragically beautiful song that highlight just how strong a person you truly are. Thank you for speaking out for those that suffer in silence, may you keep healing.

LOVE this song SO MUCH! The lyrics...the voice....the melody...the meaning. You may not have intended...but you speak for thousands of women who were sexually assaulted and are traumatized and unable to talk about it. Thank you for your courage to write and sing and release this song!
