Lenny’s is the kind of barbershop where the buzz of the clippers blends with the smell of cologne, and the barbers flirt just enough to make you wonder.

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Leonard for six months now. Every Friday, 3:30 p.m. Sharp. His hands always steady, his voice low, his eyes locked in the mirror with mine. Deep eye contact. Casual touches. The man knows exactly what he’s doing with his hands and with the way he stares.

He’s bald, tall, broad-shouldered, and covered in tattoos that crawl up both arms, vanishing beneath snug black sleeves. His beard is thick, perfectly shaped; the kind of dark that makes you wonder how it’d feel dragging between your thighs.

Leonard always wears a fitted tank top under his apron, like he’s showing off on purpose. And honestly? If a man’s built like that...those boulder shoulders, those tattooed arms...you’d be crazy not to. The fabric hugs every curve of his pecs, every dip of his abs. You can tell he lifts. But more than that… you can tell he knows how to throw someone around.

I’m not small by any stretch; burly, bearded, thick in all the ways that don’t look good in selfies. But I clean up nice. And Leonard? He makes me look sharp. Skin fade. Trimmed sides. A little product on top. He finishes it with a beard lineup that always makes me feel like someone worth staring at.

Today was like every other Friday; except it wasn’t.

The barbershop was calm. Midday haze bleeding through the windows. Leonard greeted me with his usual nod and motioned to the chair. No small talk. Just that quiet, heavy presence. The kind that makes you sit up straighter without realizing.

“Same as usual?” he asked.

I nodded. “Yeah. Tight fade. Clean up the beard too, if you’ve got time.”

His eyes flicked up from the drawer of clippers. “I always make time for my regulars.”

The cape went around my shoulders. He snapped it shut at the neck and let his fingers linger a second too long on my throat. I held still. Pretended not to notice the way he brushed the hair off my shoulder with his palm instead of the brush. I stared at his reflection. He stared at mine.

He started with the sides. Slow, steady, confident strokes. Clippers buzzed softly behind my ears. His chest brushed my shoulder as he leaned in. His breath was warm. Familiar.

“You’ve got thick hair,” he murmured, like it meant something.

I swallowed. “Thanks. Runs in the family.”

He moved to my beard next. Held my chin in one tattooed hand and tilted my face toward him. Our eyes met again. His thumb pressed just below my bottom lip, firm but patient. His hand was warm. The way he touched my face didn’t feel like grooming...it felt like claiming.

When it was over, he brushed off the stray hairs, unfastened the cape, and reached for the mirror. I barely looked at my reflection. I was still watching his.

Then he leaned down, close to my ear, fingers brushing my neck.

“You should come back sometime after hours,” he said, voice low. “We offer… a special kind of service for our regular customers.”

I blinked.

“What kind of service?”

He smiled. That slow, knowing kind of smile that didn’t bother answering questions.

“You’ll see.”

And then he walked away.

I tried not to think about it. Told myself it was a joke. Just playful. Guys like Leonard flirt with everyone.I had no business being back there. My hair was already crisp, beard edged so sharp I’d caught myself admiring it in every store-front window on the walk home. No stray hairs, no excuse...just the lingering scent of Leonard’s cologne on my skin and the memory of his thumb pressing under my bottom lip.Still, at 10:40 p.m., after a double shift and two cheap beers meant to knock the fantasy out of my head, I was standing on the sidewalk outside Lenny’s again, hands in my pockets, heart doing wind sprints. The shop was dark now, neon CLOSED sign pulsing red against the glass, mirrors inside catching the faint glow like a promise.

I told myself I was just curious, but the truth was louder: when a man built like Leonard invites you back “after hours” for a special service, you start wondering if that cape isn’t the only thing he wants wrapped around you. You picture those tattooed arms pinning you to his chair, that thick beard scraping your thighs while he decides whether your mouth or your throat is going to get the real trim. And once a thought like that takes root, good luck pretending you came for a quick shape-up.

So I stood there, pulsing with nervous heat, debating whether to knock, when the door clicked open and Leonard filled the doorway...tank top, tight jeans, bulge impossible to miss.

“You coming in, Micah?” he asked, voice rougher now.

I swallowed. “Yeah.”

He stepped aside, and I walked in. The door clicked shut behind me.

The barbershop smelled the same...clean, musky, warm. But something about it felt different. Dimmer. Private. The mirror lights were on, but nothing else. His station was tidy. The cape already draped over the chair.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” Leonard said.

He nodded toward the chair.

“Sit. Let’s get started.”
