Part 12: When It Starts to Mean Something

I was sitting so close to Theo. Too close to pretend there was nothing happening between us, The tension in the air was quiet, not loud or awkward, just thick in that way something unspoken hangs between two people. We were both comfortable in each other's presence. That part was new. But under it, there was this undercurrent, this pull, like we were both waiting for the other to speak first."You won't hurt me, Theo," I murmured, voice steady but soft. My hands found his thighs, settling there like they belonged.

Theo didn’t say anything right away. But he didn’t pull away either. His thigh shifted under my palm, and my fingers stayed there, stroking lightly, barely moving. Just feeling the warmth of him through the fabric of his sweats.

He sat there like that, still, and then suddenly he moved; not away, but closer.

His hand came down gently over mine to hold it. His fingers slid between mine. I looked down, watching the way our hands fit together, how natural it felt. Like we’d done this before. Like we could keep doing this. Then he leaned forward slightly, turning his body toward me. His other hand reached up, brushing against my forearm, almost as if he wanted to ground himself there. His touch was careful. But his eyes were clear when they met mine. “I don’t know where this is going,” he said quietly. “But I cannot stop thinking about you, Troy.”

The words sat between us. No rush, no performance. Just something true, said simply.

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. My thumb ran over the side of his hand, slow and soft. He looked down at our joined hands, then back at me. His body was angled toward mine now. Close enough that I could feel the heat coming off his chest. Close enough that every little movement felt like a decision.“Ever since I saw you that night,” I said softly, “when Min and I were watching that movie. The day I moved in. I don’t know what it was… my eyes just instantly…”

Theo laughed quietly, not pulling away. “Must’ve been my biceps.”

I smiled, shaking my head. “Well, that’s a topic for another day.”

His brow raised, amused but curious. “Okay, okay,” he said, voice quieter now. “Tell me.”

I let the silence settle for a beat before answering. “I just wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into,” I said, meeting his eyes. “I didn’t expect any of this. But I’m glad it happened.”

He didn’t say anything. Just looked at me with something soft in his expression. Something open.

I swallowed. “Anyway… whatever this is. Let’s figure it out together.”

There was a pause. A flicker in his eyes. And then, just like that, he moved. His hands slid to my waist, firm and certain, and he pulled me gently toward him with both his hands. The space between us disappeared. My breath caught.

Both of his hands rose slowly, cupping my face; warm, steady, tender. His thumbs brushed along my jaw as he leaned in, eyes locked on mine. There was no hesitation in his touch. Just this quiet need, finally surfacing.

And then he kissed me.

It was gentle at first; his lips brushing mine like he was still tasting the moment, letting it settle. But there was intention in it. The kind that made my stomach flip. His breath mingled with mine as we lingered there, caught in something that didn’t need words. Something quiet, something real.

My hand found the back of his neck, fingers slipping into his hair as I kissed him back. He pulled me closer, and the kiss deepened, just slightly; a little fuller, a little longer. Like we were both realizing that it was starting to mean something.

Then we heard the door open.A creak. A pause. And then Min slipped in like he was trying not to exist; shoulders hunched and arms tucked close to his sides like he could sneak past if he moved quietly enough.

Theo turned his head and let out a laugh. “Min, what are you doing?”

Min froze mid-step. “Shhh. I’m not here,” he whispered dramatically, eyes wide. “I’m just goinggg tooo grab my wallet…”

He tiptoed exaggeratedly toward the kitchen counter, snatched his wallet like it was part of a heist, then turned on his heel …and walked straight to the door, pausing just long enough to smirk over his shoulder.

“You lovebirds do your thing,” he said with a wink, then slipped out, the door clicking shut behind him.

Theo let out a breath and laughed under it, his forehead briefly resting against mine. We were still close. Still touching. Still buzzing from whatever that kiss had just started.

I smiled. “Well. That wasn’t embarrassing at all.”

He chuckled. “Min has no boundaries.”“None,” I said. My fingers found his again, lacing gently. “But I like where we were. Before he barged in.”

Theo looked down at our hands, then back up at me. He leaned in and gave me one more kiss. Just a peck this time; simple, quiet, a promise more than anything else. “I want to take you out,” he said.

I blinked. “Like...out out?”

He shrugged, but his smile was shy. “Yeah. Like, dates. Actual ones. If you’re into that.”

I didn’t even have to think. “I’m into that.”

Theo smiled, eyes crinkling just a little, and gave my hand another squeeze. “Okay,” he said. “Then let me plan something fun for you.”

I tilted my head, curious. “Fun how?”

He grinned, a little playful now. “You’ll see. Just trust me.”

I felt something warm unfurl in my chest; that slow, quiet kind of happiness that settles in when you know you’re safe. Wanted. Not just for a moment, but maybe for something more. We didn’t rush to let go of each other. We just sat there on the couch, our fingers tangled, the night soft around us. And for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t overthinking what came next.

I was just looking forward to it.__________________________Everything Meant Nothing | Part 13: First Official DateThe next arc is Arc 5: The Dating Phase. After weeks of tension, kisses, and confusion, Troy and Theo are finally starting to figure it out whatever it is.
