I woke up to the sound of rain against the windows. The room was dim and warm, the air carrying that soft smell of sleep and skin. For a moment, I didn’t move, just let myself feel the weight of the blankets and the quiet. We’d slept curled up together the whole night, tangled in warmth, not once breaking apart. The rain had been falling since before dawn, its steady hum wrapping the room in quiet.
Theo was still beside me, on his stomach, one arm flung over my waist like he’d fallen asleep mid-embrace. His hair was a mess, his back smooth and warm under the faint light seeping through the curtains. Every few seconds, his breath brushed against my shoulder, slow and steady, and I couldn’t help but smile.
The world outside felt far away. No phone buzzing, no emails, no flatmates banging doors..just this. Him, me, and the soft rhythm of rain.I let my hand drift across his face, tracing the line of his jaw, the faint shadow of stubble. His head was turned toward me, lips relaxed in sleep. “Morning, Theo,” I whispered.
His eyes opened slowly, hazy from sleep, before finding mine. “Morning,” he murmured, a small smile forming as if the word was just for me.He shifted closer, still smiling, and murmured, “Come here. Kiss me.”
I groaned playfully. “No. I have terrible morning breath.”Theo let out a quiet laugh, that low, warm kind that made my chest feel full. “I don’t care,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from my forehead.
I tried to hold my ground, but he leaned in anyway, closing the gap with a soft peck. It was quick, unhurried, the kind of kiss that said good morning without needing words.I smiled against the pillow. “Last night… bowling, burgers, milkshakes, and uh…” I trailed off, giving him a knowing look.
Theo’s grin widened. “And uh, huh?”
“You know exactly what I mean,” I said, my voice dipping just enough to make him chuckle.
He rolled onto his side, propping his head up on his hand so he could look at me. “Yeah,” he murmured. “Pretty perfect first date, if you ask me.”I curled up against him, his hand resting warmly around my waist, the sound of rain filling the quiet. It was one of those rare mornings where the weather felt like an excuse to stay tangled in bed forever.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
We both jumped, glancing at each other in alarm.
“Be decent, I’m barging in,” came Min’s voice from the other side of the door.
Before either of us could move, the door swung open. “Boys, boys, boys…” Min sing-songed as he strolled in, Yuki right behind him.
Theo and I didn’t even have a chance to think about clothes; we both scrambled, yanking the blanket up over our bare bodies. I grabbed the nearest pillow and plopped it strategically on top of us, just in case morning wood decided to betray us.“Min,” I said, narrowing my eyes.
“Yuki,” Theo added, deadpan.
“Uh… what are you guys doing here?” I asked, my voice a little higher than I’d intended.
Yuki crossed her arms, eyes flicking between us with a smirk. “Well, apparently my boyfriend here saw something interesting”
Min beamed, clearly proud of himself. “Oh, I definitely did. You two. On the couch. Kissing.”
Theo and I both laughed, cheeks warm. “Guys… we’re not exactly in the best position for a conversation right now,” I said, nodding down at the blanket covering us. The words came out hesitant but with a grin, like I was almost daring them to keep going.
Min and Yuki smirked in perfect sync. “We don’t care,” Min said.
“Min and I have been waiting for an hour for you lovebirds to come out,” Yuki added, stepping closer. “And here you two are, cuddling and enjoying the rain…”
“So… you know,” I said, half-asking.
“Of course we know,” Min replied without missing a beat. “Theo and I never went to bed bare-ass when we were roommates—” he broke into laughter before finishing the sentence.
“Guys, don’t be shy,” Yuki said, her tone softening into something conspiratorial. “We can finally go on double dates now.”
“Speaking of dates,” Min jumped in, leaning forward like a gossip columnist about to get a scoop. “Did you guys go out? Tell me everything.”
“Uh… yes,” I said, dragging the word out.
Theo added, “Yeah, so… you know that bowling place we went to last year? With that boy from uni…”
Min’s eyes lit up. “Uh-huh, yes.”
“Yeah, we went there,” Theo continued, “and then went for burgers and milkshakes.”
Min gasped, turning to Yuki. “Omg, babe; they went to our place.”
“Our place?” I echoed, confused.
Yuki grinned. “Yeah… when Min and I started dating, he enticed me by saying this place had the best milkshakes. And then Theo started tagging along, crashing our dates.”
I turned to look at Theo, who was already smirking. I couldn’t help but laugh.I laughed. "He used the same milkshake line on me too.”
Theo smirked, utterly unbothered. “Well, it worked, didn’t it?”
That set everyone off, laughter filling the room.Yuki grinned, pointing at us like she’d just solved a mystery. “We have to go on double dates all the freaking time now.”
“Oh my god, yes,” Min burst out. “The moment I saw these two kiss on the couch, I have already been planing things”
Theo raised a brow. “What things?”
Yuki lit up. “Oh my god, babe...yes. We totally should do something.” She looked at us, eyes glinting like she was letting us in on a secret. “We’ve already got something planned for you. Think… dirt, sweat, snacks..food. Just the four of us.”
“Guysss!” I groaned, grabbing the pillow tighter. “Get out so we can get dressed.”
“No excuses,” Min said, already heading for the door. “We are going!”
“Go, go...we’ll think about it,” I called after them, still laughing.
They finally started to leave, but just before stepping out, Min poked his head back in and sing-songed, “You’re going! Yes you are!”
The door shut, and Theo and I were left in the quiet again. We looked at each other, still smiling.
I tilted my head toward him. “Do you… want to do this mystery double date they’ve planned for us? Or…?”
Theo’s eyes softened. “It would be fun,” he said. “To get away from everything for a while. Celebrate us.”
“Okay,” I smiled.
Outside, the rain kept falling, slow and steady. I curled back into him, letting the warmth and the thought of escape settle over us, until the morning blurred into something softer, quieter.--------------Everything Meant Nothing | Part 16: The Double Date
