Here’s a preview of what’s unfolding so far:There’s a coffee shop tucked away on a side street in Shoreditch, London, the kind of place you’d miss if you weren’t looking for it. The Steaming Bean...all mismatched armchairs, crooked shelves of secondhand books, and warm lamplight that spills onto the pavement even after midnight. It isn’t a chain, it isn’t polished, but it has a heartbeat. People come for the comfort as much as the coffee.

That’s where I work as a barista. Most nights are quiet; students glued to laptops, couples sharing dessert, the odd night owl chasing their third espresso. But lately, something’s been different.

He’s been different.

A stranger started showing up just before closing. Tall, broad-shouldered, the kind of man who looks like he belongs in sharp suits but instead walks in wearing a worn sweater and jeans. He doesn’t talk much. He orders, sits in the same corner, and disappears as quietly as he arrives. But there’s something in the way he watches me. Like he knows I’ve already noticed him.

And I have. More than I should.-------------I was just the barista, he was just another customer. At least, that’s how it started.
