Sunlight filtered through the penthouse windows in slow, golden bars, slanting across the tangled sheets like it had that first night. Back then it had felt new, electric, the city sprawling endless below us as his hands mapped my skin for the first time. Now it warmed the rumpled linens, catching on the curve of Sebastian's shoulder, the dark line of his arm draped heavy over my waist. He slept deep, breaths even and slow, face slack in a way I rarely saw, the sharp edges of him softened by exhaustion and the after of last night. His body pressed close, naked and warm, leg hooked over mine, holding me there even in sleep.
I lay still, eyes tracing the play of light on the ceiling, the faint dust motes dancing in the beams. The Stefano Ricci blazer lay folded on the nightstand, taken off sometime after he had fucked me senseless, before we collapsed into each other. Wool and silk, monogram gleaming silver inside. EH. Beautiful. Mine. To be honest, I barely slept all night. I kept thinking about these past couple of weeks, over and over again. About choosing to be a billionaire's secret. About how Sebastian handled things, fucking me in private and being the best possible lover. I mean come on, last night's sex was the best night of my entire life. Never would I have imagined my life entangled with a man like Sebastian Blackwell.
And now he lay next to me, naked in a forty two million dollar penthouse, his hand possessive even in sleep, fingers splayed over my hip.
My mind kept going back to how the picture leaked in the headlines a week ago got handled so well. Who was the Blackwell Industries employee Sebastian was supposedly comforting? Must have been something cooked up by his PR team. I did not really ask Sebastian last night, because he seemed happy to finally be out of the public eye's target about being the notorious bachelor. After Veronica Kane, then the kissing image with me, he needed the other headlines to...
His hand squeezed my ass then, firm and sudden, pulling me tighter against him. His face turned toward me, eyes cracking open slow, dark and sleepy. "Morning, my beautiful boy."
I smiled, small and automatic, looking at him. But quieter, lost in the loop still turning in my head.
He propped up on one elbow, the sheet pooling low on his hips, chest broad and marked faint from my nails last night. His gaze sharpened, searching mine. "What are you thinking?"
"Nothing..."
He reached out, fingers stroking my jaw slow, thumb brushing my lower lip, parting it gentle. "Talk to me."
The touch pulled, warm and familiar, but the words stuck a second. I shifted, propping on my own elbow to face him better, the sheets whispering against my skin. "I've been wondering how our picture scandal got handled so quickly."
Sebastian laughed, low and easy, rolling onto his back to stare up at the ceiling, one arm tucked behind his head. "You know the answer to all my problems."
"Tyler Voss?", I asked.
He sat up then, sheet falling away to pool at his waist, the lines of his abs shifting as he leaned forward, elbows on knees. "Yes."
I waited, the morning light catching the stubble on his jaw, turning it gold. He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling slow. "Tyler smartly paid off a Blackwell employee to pretend he was going through a difficult time. Thrown out of his house for being gay. And I stepped in to help him. Was comforting. So the cameras misunderstood the hug as a kiss. Faces were blurred."
He joked then, mouth curving. "The employee got a hefty bonus."
"You know Tyler," he added, voice dropping back to that even calm. "He has contacts in the media as well. Friends who help him. After two or three articles, the entire media picked it up."
I thought about it, the pieces clicking clean in my head. Cooked up perfectly. PR team turning mess to mercy, one story seeding the flood. A name on a lie, bonus for the trouble. Efficient. Gone.
"All of this hassle to hide me?", I asked.
Sebastian shifted closer, hand finding my thigh under the sheet, thumb circling slow. "Not hide you, my love." He leaned in, lips brushing my neck soft, breath warm against the skin. "To protect us from the outside world."
I swallowed, the kiss lingering, but the words pulled me back. "Can't you not protect me... us... but still..." I trailed, searching for it. "Be your boyfriend out in the world."
His hand stilled on my thigh, stroking up my arm now, fingers light but steady. "You know how it's with me. I am the face of Blackwell Industries."
"And I cannot really... you know."
I met his eyes, the morning light sharpening the blue in them. "Be seen with a guy? With me?"
"Hartley, it's not like that."
His voice strained just a fraction, pulling me closer, arm wrapping my waist, drawing me against his chest. The warmth hit familiar, skin to skin, but the air thickened between us, the words hanging unsaid.
I stood then, sheet falling away, slipping on my underwear from the floor, the cotton cool against my skin. The room felt bigger suddenly, the city view endless and indifferent beyond the glass. Sebastian watched me, sitting up straighter, sheet pooled low on his hips. "Are you angry?"
The question landed soft, but I shook my head, standing there in just an underwear, the blazer still folded on the nightstand like a question I could not answer yet. My very own Stefano Ricci. The fabric draped perfect, the monogram EH glinting silver like a claim I could feel on my skin. Beautiful. Mine. But too much. Expensive threads tying me tighter to his world, another borrowed piece made permanent. I could not accept this. Not when it felt like wearing his secrets stitched inside.
"I'm not angry," I said, voice steady, turning to face him fully. "I understand why you did it. But someone put their name to a lie so I could keep being your secret. And you told me like it was good news."
Sebastian sat up slowly, the sheet slipping lower, his chest bare and marked faint from last night, the lines of his abs shifting as he swung his legs over the bed's edge. He slipped on his own underwear from the floor, black cotton hugging low on his hips, and stood, closing the space between us in two steps. His hand reached tentative, fingers brushing my arm. "I was protecting you. Protecting us. Tyler's way. It always works."
He meant it, eyes searching mine, the apology there in the quiet drop of his voice, the way his thumb stroked my skin like he could smooth the words away. But he paused, hand stilling, gaze flicking to the window as if the city held the rest. "You know a man like me cannot be..."
The trail hung, unfinished, shame flickering brief in the tighten of his jaw. He stepped closer, pulling me into his chest, arms wrapping tight around my back. We stood there in just underwear, bodies close, the faint tent of fabric from morning brushing between us, skin goosebumped in the cool air from the glass. His heartbeat thumped steady against my ear, chest warm and solid, my head tucking under his jaw, his breath stirring my hair. The hug crushed close, electric echo of last night, his hands splaying wide over my spine, holding like he could keep the fracture from spreading.
"C'mon Evan," he murmured into my hair, voice rougher now, edged with that rare crack. "Haven't felt this good with a guy since... uh forever. Chased one-nights, randoms that meant nothing, but you... you have been different from day one."
I laughed soft, the sound muffled against his neck, pulling back just enough to meet his eyes. "Instant attraction. The night I sneaked in."
His smile came shared, small and real, hand cupping my jaw, thumb tracing my lip. "Yeah. That night."
"But..." I swallowed, the words steady but heavy. "I don't want to be your secret anymore, Sebastian. Not even a protected one."
He pulled back then, arms loosening slow, eyes searching mine like he could find the fix in the blue of them. No answer came, just the hand lingering on my arm, fingers tightening once before falling away. The silence stretched, city hum faint through the glass.
"It's okay," I said finally, voice even. "I understand."
The Stefano Ricci stayed on the nightstand, unfolded and waiting, a dark fold against the wood. I did not pick it up. Instead I walked out to the living room, the cool floor under my feet, gathering my clothes from the floor where they had fallen in last night's frenzy. Shirt crumpled by the din, jeans twisted near the table. I dressed slowly, buttons deliberate on the shirt, belt buckling with a soft click, shoes laced tight. Sebastian watched from the doorway, still in his underwear, hips low and broad, expression sad in the lines around his eyes, the way his arms crossed loose over his chest.
Shoes on, I looked at him. The morning light caught the stubble on his jaw. Then I walked to him, closing the space, and kissed him once. Soft. Final. Not angry. Lips lingering on his, the taste of sleep and us still there, his hand coming up to cup my neck for a breath before I pulled back.
"Really going to miss this, Mr. Blackwell."
He hugged me again, tight and sudden, arms crushing me to his chest, breath shared warm between us. "And I you, Evan."
I held on a second, feeling the thump of his heart, the solid weight of his cock brushing against my jeans, the warmth of his shoulder tightly hugging me. Then, he eased free. "You showed me things I didn't know I could want. I'm keeping that.", I said.
The designs. The sense of myself. Maybe him, too. But I turned toward the door, the elevator waiting beyond.
"Evan.", Sebastian called out.
Just the name, low and raw. I stopped, back turned, hand on the knob.
"...Take care of yourself."
I nodded, throat tight, and stepped out. The elevator dinged shut behind me, the descent smooth and silent, carrying me down from the heights.Outside, the city air felt cool and sharp against my skin. There was no black car waiting at the curb, no driver stepping forward with a quiet nod and an open door. The subway station sat two blocks away, and my footsteps echoed along the pavement as I walked, my phone silent in my pocket.
If I had asked, Sebastian would have driven me home without hesitation, his hand resting on my thigh the whole way, warmth chasing away the morning chill. But I could not give him that kind of hope. And I could not give it to myself either.
The platform trembled as the train pulled in, the crowd shifting and pressing close as I stepped inside and found a seat by the window. The city slid past in streaks of neon and shadow, faces appearing for a moment in the glass before vanishing again.
I felt strangely light.
Not okay. Not yet.
But real.
Like I had been holding my breath for weeks and had finally exhaled, the air rushing back into my lungs, steady and full.

A Month Later
Morning light slanted through the blinds in Evan's apartment, casting warm stripes across the desk where he sat, laptop open before him. The space felt subtly transformed, small signs of reclamation blooming in the corners: a new fiddle-leaf fig on the windowsill, its leaves unfurling toward the sun; a framed print on the wall, one of his own sketches; a private library wall with gold-threaded runners and hidden sconces, rendered in bold ink. No longer just a crash pad after long days, it breathed easier now, settled back into itself.
Evan scrolled through the personal portfolio file, the luxe pieces glowing on the screen. Private library walls with walnut shelves and spotlighted sculptures. Silk drapes pooling in midnight blue. Custom headboards carved deep, ambient lights tracing crown moldings like veins of gold. Each line felt alive, untethered, the fire Sebastian had unwittingly sparked now burning steady on its own.
A ping pulled him from the glow…an email notification.
Welcome to the Team, Mr. Hartley.
Met up with Eleanor Blackwell yesterday; she's told me about how hardworking and talented you are. I am excited to see you at work this Monday.
Richard WalkerCEO, Walker & Associates
Evan's lips curved into a smile, real and quiet, the kind that reached his eyes. He leaned back, the chair creaking soft, and let the words sink in. Junior designer at the city's top high-end firm, starting with a gallery project…Eleanor's offhand brunch nudge blooming into something solid, unborrowed.
His phone buzzed beside the keyboard. Jacob.
“Lunch today?”
Evan typed back quick, thumbs flying. “Yes. My treat. got the job.”
The reply landed instant. “Hell yes. Beers too. Proud of you.”
Evan set the phone down, gaze drifting to the window, the city hum faint beyond the glass. A month had passed since the breakup with Sebastian, since the exhale on the subway, streets blurring past like shed skin. He could not be a billionaire's secret anymore, not when it meant wearing shadows stitched with someone else's name. Sebastian had shown him the want…the bold lines, the spaces that breathed beyond budgets and closed doors but Evan chose to forge his own path now, sketches turning to blueprints, one unapologetic stroke at a time. The entanglement had cracked him open, and what spilled out was his: talent sharp as wool, heart light as exhaling after weeks underwater. The door to that world stayed cracked, perhaps, but Evan stepped forward into his own light, the city waiting endless and his to design.────────────────Author’s Note
Thank you so much for reading The Billionaire’s Secret. I hope you enjoyed the journey as much as I enjoyed writing it. This story was always meant to explore ambition, attraction, power, and the quiet courage it takes to choose yourself.
Evan’s story was never just about Sebastian or the world he stepped into. It was about discovering his own voice, his own talent, and the life he wanted to build.
I truly appreciate every comment, message, and theory you shared along the way. Reading your reactions has been one of the best parts of writing this series.
More stories are coming soon, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
Thank you for being here. <3
