This a very exciting when thinking who could show up in hell. Since szayelaporro showed up you got to think any other hollow/espada has a chance to show up too like Nnoitra and Zommari. Who knows, maybe you’ll see your king Barragan with a cool redesign.

Something to consider is that this released before cour 1 of tybw. So the fact that cour 1 revealed the full designs for the original gotei 13 has lead a lot of people to think that they are a sure bet for appearing in the arc

So personal question, as a writer how do you feel about Ichigo taking up a related profession? * I don't remember if you read it, but Kubo did do a tie-in chapter to the Hell movie. The chapter featured Szayel & Aaroniero arriving in Hell. * All the way back at the beginning of the Arrancar Arc, during Ikkaku's fight against Edrad, Yumichika called in to start the preparations for Ikkaku's funeral. * Kubo confirmed that Yamamoto gave Matsumoto & Kira and Komamura & Hisagi permission to bury Gin & Tosen in the Rukongai. Presumably they performed that ceremony's so Gin & Tosen's reiatsu didn't start to cause problems. * My Number One wish for the Hell Arc is Kenny vs a conga line of all the former Kenpachi.

So Kubo has said that The Quincy have their own Afterlife realm. So, Soul Reapers and Hollows seem like they are going to be the groups with members returning to be the villains of this arc. Potentially along with a group that are native to Hell, which would be very interesting. Curious were the new Lieutenants would be placed on your rankings. They did get more shine here then some of the ones in the ones in the OG series got, haha! Also, Ichika thinking that Mayuri is cool is hilarious. Makes me hope that we get to see her and Nemuri be friends. That would be cute.

You should also look into reading Burn the Witch, Kubo's post Bleach manga. It has an initial one-shot and a 4 chapter long season 1.

Ok so a couple things nobody mentioned yet: Ukitake has a link between himself and Ichigo’s combat pass, so in essence he’s always been able to see and hear through it, established in the Lost Agent Arc by Ginjō. When they killed the hollows, the combat pass witnessed it, thus completing the rite. Though, idk how the connection was maintained all the way in hell, crazy good service. Also, Ukitake’s zanpakuto Sogyonokotowari translates to “Law of the Twin Fish” (as per Viz. You could also swap twin fish for Pisces, same idea). The opening tale about the two fish, the imbalance between Hell and “the three realms”, and Ukitake’s body being shared by Mimihagi (One or the other maintaining control). Lastly, the ability of his zanpakuto being a transfer of energy from one end to the other in greater strength. The motif of imbalance full-circles Ukitake’s whole arc as a character. I just dig the whole concept of the twin fish and wanted to yap about it lol

YEEEEAH when this chapter dropped YEARS ago we were all going crazy. A small anniversary chapter ended up being the setup to one of the coolest concepts for a story arc ever. The idea of hell being so mysterious and the only primordial world left, captains all being damned, and the POSSIBILITY of dead characters being seen again has had people going insane for years.

Damnnn I didn’t expect to see this reaction for at least a couple months but it makes sense with the leaks and related news this week! The original 13 captains are practically guaranteed to show up since kubo spend a lot of time giving them more attention since releasing this chapter (drawing artwork of their designs, including them in the tybw adaptation etc) and I think many espada have captain level reiatsu so who knows maybe Yammy will be back 😝

There are a few additions to the 3rd cour of TYBW during ukitake's flash backs that kind of nod to his status in the one shot; for example ukitake telling unohana he would see her soon before she goes to "train" kenpachi.

The most interesting possibility is he'll characters, any of the espada that died, hell ulqiorra, hell barrigan, bell STARRK!? and then there's also hell Yamamoto, hell gin, hell unohana, or hell even hell versions of the original gotei 13 from 1000 years ago

My theory is that Kazui is getting influenced by TYBW's version of Yhwach within his soul, just like 1000 years ago Yhwach influenced Ichigo. To me, it seems like Kazui is sending souls to Hell without realising the actual impact of what it means. Fun fact: It seems that Ukitake and Unohana knew about their fate based on the Ukitake flashback we got in the anime. Remember how he said to Unohana, "We'll meet each other soon", just before he went to the shrine, and Unohana went to train Kenpachi. Both of them knew what lay immediately in store for them, and the only way they could meet again was in Hell. Another theory of mine is how Kenny is somehow connected to Hell. I got nothing behind it except for the fact that his Bankai looked like a demon from Hell. Visual clues have always been there in Bleach, and this could be one among them. Interestingly enough, Kubo did say once how he would love to see a battle between Kyoraku and Ukitake, and this set things up perfectly. He also said he would like to see one between Ichigo and Kaien as well. And going by the one shot, Kaien may not be in line to be cast down to Hell based on the spirit class, but I think it's a generalisation. In special cases, lieutenants who are too good could have spiritual power in that category. Imagine Kubo playing on stuff like Gin, getting corrupted by his negative emotions due to the influence of Hell. Rangiku and Kira could play a part due to their dynamic with him. Similarly, Tosen with Hisagi, although it remains to be seen what role Kommamura would play. Of course, then there's the OG captains, but we don't know anything about them, so we'll have to see how that plays out. I don't see Starrk being in Hell, as his personality does not make him someone who has committed grave crimes while being human. Ulquiorra has a perfect conclusion, and I would like him to be untouched. I can see Nnoitora being there or even Barragan. Aaroneiro as well, but it remains to be seen what lies in store for the others, though. I know Aizen is missing, and he has gone through his own journey of enlightenment in TYBW, so perhaps Kubo could explore something like his own creations, like the Espada, coming back to bite him back somehow?? I can't even start on how excited I am about a potential continuation. There's so much to go on about. What I'm more excited about is how the story would go forward in its structure. The way the manga was structured is done in a way that TYBW feels like the end of the reign. So Kubo could take a different structure with this. The manga had a good ending, but I never considered it to be a closure. There are several characters in the story who did not get a proper closure to their journey, so this could be a very interesting way to explore those paths. However, as excited as I am for this one-shot, it also made some feelings even worse for me. It has to do with Byakuya. This further gives more weight to how he should have remained dead. Kubo has given tragic endings to the likes of Gin or Kommamura. Byakuya should have been another one. Gin and Byakuya could have their closure in this arc based on what we have seen so far. Not only would Byakuya's death have elevated Cour 1 material by forming a foil to Ichigo in the same way that Chojiro was one to Yamamoto, but Cour 2 material would also have been elevated with Rukia and Renji coming to terms with what they are on their own through the pain of losing Byakuya. It would have been a Blade is Me like moment for both of them, as what we actually got was far inferior, as it seemed undeserving due to Ichibei's influence. It could also have freed some Quincies, like Robert, who faced Byakuya in Cour 2, as they could have been pitted against some of the Vizards who desperately needed some material. Just imagine Rukia and Renji having to face their fears by battling Byakuya in the Hell arc. It would have been so good.
