Howling Meteor

Koga slowly turned to Kenpachi by ignoring his sword. That’s why sometimes they couldn’t hear one another.

The translations ive seen for the text have been "several hundred years ago/several centuries ago" so it takes place before turn back the pendulum which is where we first saw Ginrei

Ginrei is Byakuya's grandfather and one of the Captains during Turn Back the Pendulum. There's also an old hunched over man who appears in Ruika's flashback of Byakuya adopting her into the clan. I don't think it was officially stated by Kubo but a number of people think that was Ginrei. I didn't realize it when these episodes first aired but they didn't use any of the canon characters that could have been around. The anime staff forgot Chojiro again! In retrospect they probably didn't want to include anyone that it might later be revealed as it being impossible to include them. Also the vague time frame does line up with the past unrest in Soul Society mentioned in the light novel "Spirits Are Forever With You."

I do find Muramasa's speeches about freeing the Zanpaktō Spirits from abusive Soul Reapers pretty ironic in retrospect. Muramasa is both extremely loyal and dedicated as a Zanpaktō, but was arguably one of the Zanpaktō most abused by his master. It's a very fascinating flip on how one perceives the character.

● We do know from KlubOutside that humans and Quincy (and Arrancar, I think?) Can imprint on an asauchi and gain a zanpakutō.

Koga said those that have power dictate the rules that govern chaos , and that in his world black will become the colour that’s right, and black is already the colour of the soul kings reiatsu. So many layers on what Kubo was cooking early on for TYBW
