You saw Nimisha recently in "Babita Singh Reporting" This series is based on horrific true events in 2015. And since the investigating officers spanned across multiple states/origins, multiple spoken languages were used in this series including Hindi and English. But this series is publicized as primarily Malayalam series. Malayali folks may beg to differ. Note: English comes naturally to indians when there are peeps from multiple states (specially if there's atleast one south indian) involved in a conversation. Nothing to do with eliteness imo.

Great choice of series to watch! As has been pointed out, the common language among Indians is English. Why do you think the patreon chat scene works? So when people from different states talk to each other we switch to English. Surprised you did not recognize Nimisha from The Great Indian Kitchen and Babita Singh Reporting!

This series along with Family Man are among the few where the makers are not shying away from how truly multi lingual India is. I wish there were indications when people are switching languages as Korbin, Rick and you did not realize the half the dialogue is in Malayalam when its based in Kerala (mostly, the Forest Dept officials are appointed from the center so several senior ranking officers will not be from the same state and so do not speak the regional language. The common language among them is English). The rest is in Hindi. HBO productions, I have seen, do a good job of color coding or changing font of the subtitles when the languages switches on screen. I really hope more filmmakers embrace this multilingualism and showcase it right.
