PLEASE MORE HIDDEN PERSPECTIVE

Jacob Houser

Hidden perspective series is incredible

Anonymous

Hooray! I was anticipating an upload with bated breath... I'll be watching this in my RMP until my tour is over.

Anonymous

This sounds really cool! A little departure from the usual content

Anonymous

High level content once again. 🔥

Anonymous

I cannot think of a time in my 57 years where I could have ever handled combat. I don't have it in me. I couldn't be a police officer for the same reason.

Anonymous

Thank you for these batch of new videos! Can we anticipate a third part for “The Code”?

Anonymous

Gut wrenching. Thank you for sharing the truth. Keep it up jim

Anonymous

i cant watch this. i tried.

Anonymous

The truth is mind-bogglingly heartbreaking. Thanks.

Chris Green

Jeez, the guy at the end is such a mess. It's very tough to watch, very graphic and definitely not one for the faint hearted. This is war, essentially, in its most bare and horrible form. I don't regret watching this, in fact I think people need to understand what war is essentially about.

Anonymous

Wow this was compelling af. Great job as always Jim. Just wow

Anonymous

Paid my patreon bill just in time! Happy Independence day 🎉 Celebrate by watching a Jim Can't Swim video about war

Anonymous

Dang this one really hit me hard... I served as a medic for the army in afghanistan from 2008-2009. 710TH "Painkillers"

Anonymous

That was hard to watch.

Anonymous

Thank you. That was stressful to watch but I'm even more appreciative of our combat troups.

Anonymous

You did an amazing job covering such a sensitive subject. It was informative, compelling, and heart breaking. Thank you!

Anonymous

It’s a miracle that the last man survived, I thought he was just a torso at first when the blast first happened but thankfully he made it!

Anonymous

Have a few family members who served in Afghanistan, they unanimously agreed that it was a hellhole that they were glad to be back from and that it was little more than bloodletting American soldiers for political ends.

Anonymous

This helped me put my life in perspective.

Anonymous

Thank you so much for this horrible but very informative video.

Anonymous

Those commandos are no joke man! Seen a video of a afghan squadron lighting up a group of isis soldiers and then interrogating the surviving soldier while spitting in his face and flaunting his dead comrades.. Brutal stuff. Anyways, great vid as always Jim!

Anonymous

Awesome video!! Its crazy how an average citizen never really thinks of the other reality people face, soldiers and not soldiers, on the other side of the world ... we should grateful for the minimal things we have for being able to go outside without fear ... I just wished other places were like that 😞

Nissemann

Holy shit, this is savage footage. Thanks for showing us, you do really have a great archive... I just understood you posted this the day before the 4th of July.

Anonymous

that was an amazing video. completely correct that if the public saw frontline footage like this they would have rallied against the war even harder. just wow. i understand more why my dad has PTSD still from a war he was in 40 years ago. if i was that afghan commando at the end i think i might have begged for them to finish me off. he was meant to live though to help wounded children in his future. war is hell

Anonymous

Fuck, this should be compulsory viewing, not hidden away. Heartbreaking.

Anonymous

Never ever paid for Patreon before, until you! Your content, time, energy and loyalty to your people is def worth my money! I've binged all your videos and can't wait til you upload new videos. Take care my friend. Happy 4th of July!

Anonymous

Riveting. A whole new level of respect for our soldiers. ♥️

Anonymous

Started running short of money and I had to cancel a couple Patreons. Not Jim’s though. He got a raise.

Michael

I served on missions as EOD with NATO, and had plenty of encounters with in-field detonation of unsafe mines/grenades etc., this video was quite the surprise for me. Most the material presented by Jim is spot on. God bless for putting some spotlight on this.

Jesse

this was a fantastic video

Anonymous

When my ex came back from the war he was afraid of driving by a cup on the side of the road. He saw an American flag flying over a used car lot and we had to pull over because he was crying so hard. He drank from the time he woke up until he went to bed. He had bursts of uncontrolled anger. I felt bad for him and at the same time angry when he refused to go get counseling. He was up for promotion and he didn't want anything on his record that might prevent that. He's been through 2 more marriages since me and just retired after 26 years. I wish him well but glad I got away from that. Long and constant deployments (SF) and then they come home totally screwed up, angry and detached, unable to emotionally connect at the same time preparing physically and emotionally for their next deployment. There isn't much left for family. He worked contract doing same thing after 20.. I hung with him 11 years. I appreciate and respect our soldiers with all my heart but I am glad I got away from him.

Anonymous

Great video, tragic and powerful

Anonymous

I don't have any words, this is awful, but also more or less good to see if that makes sense? We have to know what's out there, I feel. Good job on this video. It was an eye opener, and honestly I can't even begin to imagine what it's like for the people out there, soldier or civilian. I feel absolutely horrible and my heart goes out to all of them and their families.

Anonymous

It the reason the army is made up of (generally), the poor and the under educated. They know when these people are killed or maimed there is no one who will speak for them. And we, the public, are hoodwinked with “patriotism”. There are no rich patriots, only the poor are fooled into “love your country, die for your country” nonsense.

Anonymous

This hurt me all over. It gave me a new perspective. I agree, this video should be COMPULSORY.

Anonymous

The whole world should see the horrifics of wounded soldiers with shrapnel in their face. That's what war is.

Johnny

The entire war doesn't make sense to me. It's like the USA doesn't even want to win it with the way the troops have to fight. Its really scary and sad.

Anonymous

Thank you for this.

Anonymous

Idk why in my mind I thought PTSD was just a thing veterans did to sign off to get more insurance money. Man do I feel like the lowest piece of shit for even thinking that after watching this. I watched that last bit all the way through, I didnt want to but I did. All I could think was, this is just a screen in front of me and I can barely stand to watch it. The soldiers had to live through it, probably live through it every day to this very day. I needed this. Thank You.

Anonymous

Thanks for "extremely graphic" warning, I just wish I would have heeded it. Even though most of us appreciate the hell out of troops, they deserve even more of our admiration and thanks. These guys go through hell so we don't have to. Go tell a veteran how much you appreciate them today, and do something nice for them. They deserve it.

Anonymous

the guy lost both legs in an explosion from some sneaky shit mine that he just happened upon... I wonder if more folks realised the reality here, they might just decide not to sign up whatsoever. Mines are OP as shit, who wants to hike your % chance of dying/hr up a hundred fold???

Anonymous

Got to be honest I couldn’t watch the whole thing. Too much truth to it. It’s not that I can’t deal with it, hell I’ve been there and done that, but just have a hard time viewing actual real life scenarios of actual events played out as if I was there again. A good video for anyone else but caution should be given for any veterans of OEF or OIF specifically that it contains actual combat footage. Some of that shit though man, god is it real. To say “look at that pile it rocks, avoid it” then two seconds later it detonates, that’s real. It really happens. It don’t even need to be a pile of dirt or rocks, it could be trash, a coke can, a child’s toy, or something that looks like intel. Piles or rocks and dirt, that’s just the lazy ones OR the ones they want you to find. It’s the ones that you don’t you have to watch for. You don’t have to step on anything to trigger it. Motion detectors, seismic detectors, cell phones anything can trigger it manually or remotely. I always followed that if I see it, they see me. Then when you follow protocol, you either have to wait for EOD to blast in in place OR depending on your MOS probe it and sweep for more, which makes your group a bigger target. I just couldn’t, no offense. It was good what I saw, very accurate.

Anonymous
>>24394682

Not only that, but PTSD can come from anywhere. It’s not solely experienced by veterans.

Anonymous

Imagine knowing every step you take might result in having your fucking legs blown off. Terrible

Anonymous

I thought I knew the danger my son was in during his stint in Afghanistan but this was even worse than my imagination. He is is still active duty, still in the infantry and an officer in an EOD company. All I could think about was the families of these poor soldiers and civilians.

Anonymous

That was some very brutal raw footage. My heart hurts for every single one of those soldiers.....and that poor man that helped them:( that last part was intense as fuck.....I hope that man was able to find happiness even with such life changing injuries. Great video as always!!!!

Anonymous

Wow another great video always so impressed with your work keep it up!,

Anonymous

Wow that commando in the last video is a total bad ass he was trying to get up and stuff damn better man then me

Anonymous

I worked around KKA (Afghan Commandos) in 2017 as security contractor escorting US military advisers and doing static security. I was in country when Trump dropped the MOAB, or mother of all bombs and wasn't too far away. The KKA are HARD men and it is widely known that the Taliban fear the commandos. Even the Green Berets that rolled out with them every night on raid operations had nothing but good things to say about these men. The regular ANA (Afghan army) on the other hand, should not be trusted. Those are the ones that are notoriously known for shooting our troops in the back.

Anonymous

Says I need password?

Anonymous

more people need to see this video

Anonymous

The entire video is eye opening. There's just something particularly despicable about relying on a civilian to help your forces read signs and not get blown up; only then to turn around and return the favour once they're captured or taken hostage. I would actually suggest a censored version be uploaded to Youtube. The more people that are exposed to this the better, in light of recent developments with US and Iran.

Anonymous

This was really difficult for me to watch, but I'm so glad I did. I was having insane anxiety watching that one dig around the IED. I don't know how people can do this, going into zones your whole body must be telling you to get out of. The last one in particular was very difficult to watch, but I feel everyone should watch it.

Anonymous

Wow I had to force myself to watch the latter part of this video. I was warned. Anyone who thinks war is a glorious endevour has never been in one. Its utterly brutal, unforgiving and destructive. This certainly graphically depicted that truth. I cannot fathom how countries like the US sells this to its uncertain youth. A country that is so embedded with a military story at its core owes its citizens they recruit with both the truth and the aftermath if they survive. How many homeless vets are there now in the US. Really how many are thrown on the heap after surviving this sort of shit!! Im disgusted in it all.

Anonymous

I honestly couldn't watch this. It was too hard to hear the screams of pain from the guy in the beginning. I haven't ever had to forego watching something of yours until now but it was a lot and it made me really anxious. I think it's different from the other videos involving scenes with death/violence because they aren't prisoners they are soldiers. They could never have fathomed what they were signing up for, just like we can't.

Anonymous
>>24407463

I didn't have the ability to watch the latter part of the video but I agree with everything you said here about the fact that these young men and women have no fucking clue what they're signing up for and this really shows that.

Anonymous

Now the American war profiteers would like to start a war in Iran and the media is once again abiding in this tragedy. When will it ever end?? This video is a PSA.

Anonymous

Loved this one, Very interesting and sad at the same time

Sonia Pitt

Wow! I have no words. Thank you.

Anonymous

war is fucking terrible.

Paul Wevers

This should be allowed on youtube and others. It should be seen by as many people as possible. Truth is so hard to come by.

Sarah

This was very hard to watch but I’m glad I did.

Neil Hessian

That "viewer discretion advised" needs to be in a much bigger typeface!

Anonymous

Thank you for shedding some light on the horrific nature of War. Our government shouldn't go into these wars so carelessly, especially since they often times just discard vets when they come home. Great content!

Em22

I requested my password sent, but it hasnt sent it to my email so I am thinking I never fiinished the process. And it isnt taking the password to my Google account. I do not have the patience for this....grrrr!

Anonymous

This makes me sick to my stomach. Unbelievable and sad that most people signing up for this shit have no clue what they are truly signing up for. Amazing content. This will be a very eye opening experience watching this series. I knew the war was fucked, but wow.

Anonymous
>>24421707

You don't need to sign into any account on Vimeo. The password it asks for is right under the video above. It's way737 for this particular video and every Vimeo video has a different password, all posted directly under the video itself. I hope this clears up you're confusion.

Anonymous

What are you talking about? I'm in the $1-tier as well and don't even have a vimeo account and still can watch the video. The password you need is in the description.. if that's what you're on about.

Roberts-Loux Foundation

Good bless these brave soldiers. I wish more people understood what these brave men and women undergo in service of our country.

Anonymous

Amazing content. Can't believe how recklessly we waste human life.

Drew Voss

very eye opening

Anonymous

Would be really great if we could get some sort of schedule of when to expect the next releases, or at least what the titles / subject matter of the next one will be. As everyone has been saying, really insightful stuff, many thanks.

Anonymous
>>24429171

naaah that's too much added pressure. I like what hes doing, it's always a treat.

Erin

This is your best yet

Anonymous

Hi everyone! I'm an idiot (and huge fan of Jim's!) who doesn't quite understand how Patreon works. Can someone tell me why some of the videos (like this one) are locked for me and need a password that isn't my main login password. Can't wait to watch this one! Thanks!

Anonymous
>>24431275

Passwords are in the description of each video! Happy swimming 🏊‍♀️

Anonymous

oh thank you I see now! :)

Anonymous

If the last man had been an American soldier the public would never condone another war. People should see the reality of how horrible war really is. This should serve as a lesson to the naive young men and women thinking that the military is a career. You are cannon fodder that's all. You can feel the horror coming off those medics. Tragedy, grief and loss for those who fight it. NO WAR IN IRAN!! Enough.

William Abbott
>>24436295

Adrian He was an american soldier, it just said he went to work with the Afghan government after his injuries. The american public has no say in what wars or conflicts we participate in, if this was on CNN people would be outraged but then forget about it after a few days because that just seems like another world completely detached from our society. It's a terrible shame but 1 American getting his face blown off will not change a thing

Anonymous

Wow jim that was deep and it really surprised me thx

Anonymous

I sort of wish I never saw that. I'm usually OK with this stuff but god damn.

Anonymous

The real cost of war. True heroes. No easy answers. You can't let evil go unchecked but it comes at great expense.

The Absurd Man

This was really gut-wrenching. Makes your other videos feel cozy :s

Anonymous

This is an eye opener. I normally get squeamish and stuff when I know it's real. But this is reality for some people.. not that I accept it nor desensitized from it, it just gave me a visual perspective to the craziness that goes on with humanity and war

Anonymous

A tough watch, but extremely important and one of your best pieces yet, more like this please ♥️

Anonymous

Damn this one fucked me up hard.

Anonymous

EXTREMLY important watch. Very hard but very effective.

Anonymous

Why do I always end up watching these at 1am ...?

Anonymous

Fucking hell, I was handling all of the clips without any trouble until I watched the last clip. The 'extremely graphic' spoiler is there for a reason people, so take notice.

Anonymous
>>24456104

I will say though that it's important to watch. It gave me a newfound respect for the men that are out there. I'm not the type of person that would enlist for the military and I feel like a lot of guys do so with the wrong intention. Regardless of their intent, those medics are absolute heroes. To be able to remain calm and execute so effectively earns all the respect. I can't imagine what the Afghan soldier must've gone through, that poor soul.

Anonymous

Thank you for the video. It needs to be seen. I remember being a kid in Wildwood, NJ where there must have been a VA hospital from the Vietnam War. It was horrible to see these young guys with missing body parts. There was much more coverage in mainstream media at that time and that did affect public opinion on ending the war. I forget who said "War is Hell" but it is true.

Brandon Maxwell

If only everyone could truly understand the enormity of war and the senseless loss of life it brings. Even after watching something like this, we will still never come close to understanding what these people went through no matter how much we try to empathize. I don't wish that on anyone.

Anonymous

I needed to see this. Didn't want to but I made it through the video. I'm going to be sick now. I feel enlightened and disgusted both at the same time. Thank U JCS

Not My Real Name

This video is just in time for Trump's Great Iran War!

Not My Real Name

Now imagine how life is for the children in these countries where the IEDs still lay. If China invaded the USA, you'd lay down IEDs to try to stop them too.

Anonymous

its asking for a password

Anonymous

but i dont know were to find it

Anonymous

never mind im dumb i found it

Anonymous
>>24406194

Its really easy. It comes down to you, with millions of dollars in training, knowing full well what you're getting into disarming this IED, or some kid your daughter's age gets caught in the blast and loses her life/limbs. I'd rather it be me than someone else.

Anonymous

So glad you're doing this series! I'm writing something right now and the protagonist is an army veteran who served in the Middle East. I'd love to know more about day to day life for soldiers at their bases and how they interact with people in the community.

Anonymous

I feel bad for all of these soldiers but watching the last guy suffer like he did was absolutely heartbreaking.

Anonymous

I have no words for this but thank you and my heart goes out to these guys.

Too Much Sascha

So it seems our country is still using many tactics they rolled out during the 60s and 70s to approach war as more of a PR thing than a real conflict with consequences. Get the money and don't let people look behind the curtain. I gotta get out of here

Anonymous
>>24494407

These days journalists who are embedded with a platoon (sorry if that's not the correct term) now have to clear everything through the military before they can air their footage. My understanding is that this is a because the media coverage of the Vietnam War helped to shift public support away from the war due to the constant stream of very distressing images of US servicemen being injured and killed in huge numbers, footage that was being aired on telly every single night on the evening news. So by removing the immediacy of the conflict- the blood and trauma and casualties- it's much easier to minimise the harsh reality of the situations the troops (and civilians) find themselves in. And when you remove all that confronting and distressing content the public are a hell of a lot less likely to start questioning the necessity of the conflict and whether the price their fellow countrymen are paying is too high.

Anonymous

I'm only 10 minutes in and I can already state with confidence that this is the single best piece of material you've ever produced, Jim. More like this, please.

Anonymous

The death row phenomenon deffo the best

Anonymous

This video isn’t playing for me. It keeps on telling me to enter my password

Anonymous

I almost skipped the last video footage of the special forces soldier injured and being helped out, but then I realized that if this is what our soldiers have went through , the very least I can do is see it. That much I owe to our soldiers.

Samuel Stewart

This is some of your best work, Jim. Favorite dollar I spend.

Anonymous

As a combat vet and medic, I’m triggered AF and thankful to be alive. Not all were as lucky.

Anonymous

Thank you so much Jim for such important content.

Anonymous

Thanks for putting that extremely graphic warning. I wasn't trying to see someone get fatally injured.

Anonymous

Such a shame. Was it worth it? No.

Anonymous

such an awesome video Jim. The service is no joke gotta be thankful everyday for our boys in uniform. cant wait to see whatelse you have in store for this series

Anonymous

So has this producer served in combat?

Anonymous

wow, that was heart-wrenching. I do not, and never will understand terrorism.

Anonymous

ETA on the next episode?

Anonymous

Going on a week, Jim answered my msg. but was unsure as to why I could not see videos, still no answer from Patreon

Anonymous

A 1 in 9 chance of being severely maimed/wounded? Wow. I was 16 when the 9/11 Terrorist attack happened in New York. Two years later I was 18 and hadn't done well in school so I wanted to join the army. My grandfather's had served, grandmother's also. At the time there was a lot of publication of the names and ages and states of origin of the soldier's being killed on the news, like Jim mentions in the video. It was new people every day, that many people were dying. At the time I had a disconnect with that I guess. Enlisting seemed like a 'good' route to go. My mother absolutely refused to let me join and said she wouldn't let me end up like one of the soldiers on the news. I listened and didn't enlist. This episode affected me quite deeply. Thank you Jim for the all hard work you put in to your content.

Anonymous
>>24601161

or, you could be close to retiring right now with a pension & tons of free education. even tho my dad only has 1 arm & i have seen what he goes thru in life, i'd still rather be maimed than looking for meaning in my life.

Anonymous

This was great. Please keep doing these.

Anonymous

The military videos are my favorite! Thanks

Anonymous

I'm a patron but I'm being asked for a password to watch this video?

Anonymous

I like this series but i hope you will also focus more on the civilian life in Afghanistan. Media ignores them completely. They deserve just as much attention as the soldiers.

Anonymous

I remember only one innocent person on Jim’s channel. I agree with the sentiment but this channel isn’t about innocent civilians man, get a grip.

You haven't let me down getting on patreon. This content is fantastic.

Em22

Fuuuck, that's tough to watch, but if they can live it, then God damn, I can watch it. And God bless these guys keeping that shit away from here. It's sucks that they are sent, and maybe they shouldn't be, who knows. I just hope it's not for nothing, there is a greater purpose and they keep us all safer. If you feel like you want to help the man and women deployed in those shit hole deserts full of damn land mines, there is an awesome organization called Soldiers Angels. You "adopt" a deployed soldier whose name is given usually by their peers or whatever, bc they don't have anyone to send them anything. You agree to send your soldier a card or letter a week, and a package a month, which they ask it to be a medium envelope size, and they recommend sending candy, baby wipes, magazine or books, etc... Its an awesome way to give back to those who give a part of their life and have to go thru the shit seen in these vids. U can look the organization up online.

Anonymous

Having been there, that was really hard to watch.

Anonymous

This truly is the most horrifying video as I have 2 brothers who have both been to Afghanistan and Iraq over 5 times each. I am fortunate to have them with me still, but I couldn’t imagine what they guys go thru thinking they are protecting freedom. God bless our troops.

Heartbreaking. These guys should live like kings when they return home! It's messed up that celebrities & ball players live as they do and our men and women who risk their lives struggle. It's the biggest injustice I know.

Excellent video. High School friend of mine was in a documentary called Body of War. About his life after being catastrophically injured in this war. Lots of relevant topics covered there as well.

Please continue this series. It is so difficult to find out the actual toll we take when we're at war. And as was mentioned in the video. The Department of Defense has a vested interest in keeping it difficult for us to find out.

That was a shit ton of weed

Absolutely fantastic. Please make this a series. Just incredible filmmaking - well done.

Every time I see George Bush my blood boils. Terrible human.

Yes I’d love to see more of this. Thank god my unit didn’t end up going to Afghanistan like they were originally supposed to, I was almost sent to the sandbox.

fascinating but fuck me that was rough

Gregory B Dietz

whoa. This brings back some memories. 79th TC in Iraq in 2004 and 2005. LOTS of IED's on the road. I can't count the # that hit us. Pot holes everywhere from detonated ones, filled back in with another then hits another convoy. It got pretty stupid. Was always more scared of indirect fire there more than direct fire. Hell when they shot at you they ALWAYS missed and half the time we wouldn't even know it in our loud ass vehicles that cause tinnitus. Maybe I do have a little bit of a PTSD. These combat cams give me the bone chills. Especially looking back at it all and being alive and well.

Makes you appreciate soldiers even more, sacrificing their lives and limbs... so the government don't have to force you to.

Please continue the series, you guys do great work!

great video would like to see more. some many areas to cover logically,

Tanya Medina

My father committed suicide after serving 2 terms.... he could not “unsee” the damage and he used to clean his rifle over and over until one day he used it on himself.... my son is joining military and I am so scared... God Bless our military ❤️

Autumn R Arnold

Why would you end that with "God bless our military" when you, yourself have witnessed its horror? What an idiotic thing to say!

Tanya Medina

Because they have to fight for our freedom...REGARDLESS of how I feel about it so people like you can make idiotic comments

No kidding. The first bomb, I actually jumped. Then I was sitting there constantly waiting for the explosion or the shooting. I dont know how these people do it. Its terrifying but we need to see it. Both to know what servicepeople go through and make sure that the conflicts the military fights in are worth the loss of life and maiming of the soldiers who put their lives on the line every day.

Wasn't there more to this one? I could have sworn there was another clip in this video where an interpreter gets hit

It’s almost too bad this is not freelyshared. People need to see this! They take war too lightly without thinking of the thousands of lives touched by it. Imagine not only the soldiers but also the families and their future! Sad stuff. Thank you for this. This is a great way to present their perspective .

Thank you for this.

Oh man, that was brutal. For anyone having problems viewing *either* version, "way737" is the password for the “censored” version [16:55 mins. in length] (type in the 'screen' just above where the password "way737" is written). For the *uncensored* version [27:02 mins.], scroll further down *below* where the 'Disclaimer' is written, click on the link: "https://vimeo.com/361373419", & type in the *other* password ("gar818") once the link takes you to/[opens up] the *vimeo* page. Hope that helps if you’re having trouble accessing *either* version! Both are immensely grim, but (obviously!) the *uncensored* version is a straight up, downright "SMACK YOU IN THE FACE: DON’T *EVER* BLINDLY CONSIDER CONDONING A WAR, ESPECIALLY ONE YOU WON’T HAVE TO FIGHT - & QUITE POSSIBLY *DIE* IN - YOURSELF!!!" emotionally debilitating experience, when you’re confronted with the actual unvarnished, truly bone shattering, human tissue tearing & hacking reality of modern armed conflict. Glad I watched, but DAMN!!! [Sending a MASSIVE “hug” to ANYONE dealing with both the mental & physical consequences of such pointless, horrendous destruction.] Cheers Jim.

Oh my god!!!. I've never seen anything like that in my life! as a medic Ive seen all of this. Our training is extremely realistic. I have been desensitized to explosions, screams and blood. It is how the military indoctrinates us to think under pressure. Now, imagine you are in your backyard minding your garden with your family kids and wife. Some asshole with an automatic weapon and some of his friends come within 50 yards of your home. They have clear lines of sight into your house and can clearly identify you and your family. Tell me now why wouldn't you kill every single one of those guys, in order to protect your land, family and neighbors. <-- thats what i dealt with for years. Serve your country. Do whats right but, never forget who you are when the shoe is on the other foot.

Matthew (Zei)

Soldiers are incredible people. I hope for a day when robots are doing all of the fighting so that we don’t have to put good men at risk. We can only live like we do because of the safety that the military provides.

Feel free to trash me for my political leanings... but I truly believe this is why Tulsi Gabbard is the msot important presidential candidate. There are a million wedge issues, but the military industrial complex is the quintessential subject of our time. And she's the one troop who's running who saw this shit on the battlefield daily, and wants it to end. That's the most important thing I can think of, in this day and age. Joining the Marine Corps out of HS was the best choice of my life. The lessons I learned and the wisdom I gain as a result hold infinite value. The amount I learned in a few short years often takes people decades to learn. I still am learning new lessons when I reflect back to my time in the military. It is costly both physically and mentally but I think it was worth it and I am strongly considering going back in after college and I would highly recommend it for your son.

The tendency of pretending that any war is a defensive one shows two things. First of all is that the majority of people, at least in civilized countries, cannot be made to kill or be made to die unless they are first convinced that they are doing so in order to defend their lives and freedom; second, it shows that it is not difficult to persuade millions of people that they are in danger of being attacked, and hence, that they are called upon to defend themselves. Such persuasion depends most of all on a lack of independent thinking and feeling, and on emotional dependence of the vast majority of people on their political and or religious leaders. The middle east seems to be a Thunder-dome where people/children go and fight and DIE, For What? The whims of corrupt politicians and their political agenda? College tuition? What? And don't tell me, "Our Freedoms" or "Fight against terrorism" I mean, "How can you have a war on terrorism, when war itself is terrorism?" And try and understand that criticizing or detouring those people who sign up or would sign up, to die, to Serve the whims of those corrupt politicians, is Not an insult to those who have died, in which I Respect with the utmost, but serves as a Warning to the Living, Not to Blindly obey corrupt politicians... I feel that the Best way we can honor our fallen soldiers, is to STOP creating so Many of them... The military and the machine of war it produces and forces upon the world is Disgustingly Evil, and it has gotten away with so much because of Patriotism of the American Empire... That's what the Rich evoke and call to when it's time for the poor to bear the burden and Die for profits... Why is there such a lack of Empathy among Americans? WAKE UP AMERICA!!! Your/Our government is corrupt, governments are Not for the people, Police do Not protect you, School does Not to educate you, Your banks are holding you as collateral, Your military is used to terrorize the world while your media keeps you distracted with mindless celebrity bullshit. Your wars are about resources and financial control. You have more in common with the people you're bombing than the Billionaire's that are ruling you... Nothing in this world operates the way you think it does. Privately Owned Banks (Federal Reserve, is No more Federal than Federal express) loan fiat $, The entire structure of civilization in the western world is a combination of Brilliantly Conceived and Well-Planned Schemes to direct the minds of the people to serve their perceived overlords. This Madness has to End. I will Always be Antiwar...

Hardest video I’ve ever watched. July 2012 I stepped on an IED. Lost both legs below my knees instantly. Spent 3.5 yrs recovering at Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD. It’s not all sad though, a bad day at work has given me more in this life than I have ever had. It’s also given my daughter the opportunities I never had. Because I live in Alabama, her entire education is taken care of. Because of that alone, waking up everyday and putting my legs on in the morning is completely worth it. Thanks for the video JCS!

Anonymous
>>28995325

Sorry buddy but it’s not that easy. The thing is if we pull all troops out of the Afghanistan alone millions of civilians will die as a result of the Taliban or ISIS.. after a short while of being gone one of the groups will gain completely control of a centrally located country to recruit and operate. They would be able to brain wash or recruit an estimated 10-20x as many troops as currently. All of that on top of the millions of civilians and resistance groups getting crushed. Would you rather stop them in the future or now? Why wait until they are strong? You can’t ignore the problem, send everyone home and then hope all will work itself out. Giving extremist complete control over a country is the worst thing that could happen the to world.

child of cascadia

Thank you for sharing your story. These stories need to be heard. Whatever someone's opinion is on the US government's choices to fight these kinds of wars, its important to support those people who give life and limb in their service. I'm glad you are still here, and I'm glad you have a positive outlook about your experience.

It's crazy how reckless the 'battle' plan is. Of course planned by men who have never set foot in the country they are invading. And every soldier has a go pro, if that footage got out a) no one would enlist and b) we wouldn't recklessly waste human lives.

Anonymous

My god what a freaking badass must you be to survive that IED to explode right into your face. Furthermore I'm amazed on how horrible the battleplan is, the first time I heard about it and I immediately thought "So wait they just walk around like targets for anyone to engage them at their free will?". I atleast thougth they had a better plan than just "walk around untill you stumble upon some terrorist and do your best to stay alive, while they have all the advantages", I mean seriously why use vehicles ti blindly run into possible mined streets, yes demining equipment throws sand and shit up the air, but it seems that stealth isn't an option anyway, so rather have these demining tanks do their job and save on equipment .

Anonymous

What a visceral experience. Salute to all the soldiers that willingly put themselves in harms way to carry out their mission or to rescue an injured soldier because they're really at a tactical disadvantage.

Thats just crazy to me that an armed enemy has to fire to be a threat. Thats an even more lax law than here in the USA, lol....

Those who make the choice to go to war (Congress) should be required to be on the front lines. We'd have a lot less war that way....instead, friends of theirs benefit financially. Its a messed up system.

I’m not sure how the hero in the last video gets around with such big balls because that man is a beast. And I don’t mean that to be insensitive or disrespectful but, the fact he actually SAT UP on his own when they were triaging him is absolutely astounding. The amount of damage to his body should have left him out cold for the entire triage, flight to the hospital, and into surgery. I’m sure some of it was survival instincts and he was on auto pilot it it still show what a bad ass he is. And to all the men who were there with him to get him to the helicopter are also just as bad ass. Knowing at any minute another IUD could go off or you could be ambushed they never hesitated for a single second. Of course they are trained to do that but, training and actually doing it in the real world are two completely different animals. They for sure saved that mans life. I can’t even begin to imagine what those men and women had to see over there. Half of my wedding party was Marines with multiple tours between them and whenever someone mentions their deployment you can see the pain flash across their faces. They don’t talk about it much but, when they do you can tell they hold back because they don’t want anyone to have those images in their head. I have never asked them about it because I don’t want to force them to relive it but I have overheard conversations they have had and it’s absolutely soul crushing. To all the men and women serving, thank you. We owe so much more than you are given and it’s shameful.

Watch "Bitter Lake" by Adam Curtis of the BBC. Nobody knows who "The Taliban" is supposed to be. They're just peasants taking up arms against foreign military presence in their country. There's a lot more to be said, but that one film is a good starting point for anyone hoping to begin to understand what's actually going on. And look up opium production sky-rocketing since the invasion.

I wasn't mechanized infantry but I was always on the roads in Iraq at the end of 2003 to the first few months of 2005. IEDs were a scary reality. Anytime you saw a person on a mobile phone to his ear and bringing it down to press buttons you just new something was coming. They used other stuff to like garage door openers, RC radio transmitters, all types of remote detonated devices. I hated it. What you gonna do though.

The U.S. dropped some 280 million cluster munitions on Lao in the Vietnam war -- despite it being a non-belligerent nation (Nixon issued the secret orders, on the alleged grounds that the communists were funnelling materiel through Lao). Today, some 2,000 Laotions still lose limbs to said the un-exploded ordinance, and receive little financial aid in their endeavours to clear their lands of the U.S. bombs. (NB: A few years ago, the U.S. coughed up $2 million dollars to help aid with the effective mine-clearing -- not nearly enough for the job required; to say nothing of the compensation that by all rights should be forthcoming. As a result, the "mine sweeping" is mostly done by hand, and by the locals.)

Not a single one of these poor guys is dying for their nations freedom (as well intentioned as they may be) .... there are instead losing their lives for very rich people to get even more rich...and that is the deepest tragedy of it all.

Anonymous

War is business plain and simple, none of these people deserve to suffer due to greed, freedom cannot be gained through the loss of thousands of innocent lives.

Defintely should have atleast this one on his Youtube channel, even though it doesn't fit the theme

Wow. Jim, while I understand it is too graphic for youtube, some editing and blurring would help, as this is something more people need to see.

I appreciate the decision not to censored content. Although it is hard to watch, I believe that the impact of seeing exactly what the men/women see on the front lines creates a more powerful and lasting impact.

that commando. one tough bastard.

I sit here in my home, surrounded by central heating when I choose to, running clean water, food, warmth and love and I suddenly feel very sobered and ashamed of all that I've felt frustrated about in life. I watched these men - many very young men - face fear, terror, adrenaline, danger, and life-long trauma away from safety and warmth and the love of their home, families, partners, children, whomever. It breaks my heart, and it feels so endless for them. Each one of these men and boys who get tortured, or blown to pieces or shot or disfigured or murdered on the front line. Those in power who command them to do so, who pull all the strings - they too are safe in their homes (mansions), never to have the smallest clue to how it feels to be the very men they order out to war. They've no possible idea what goes on. They do press conferences, speak the good speak, get applauded whilst they return home to their servants and butlers and limos. Whilst young men and boys get obliterated on the front line. I doubt any of these leaders knows the first thing about each man who dies so violently. The fact that they had personalities, quirks, beliefs, dreams, fears. Nothing. To them, they're numbers on a conveyor belt. Awful realisation. War is fuckin pointless.

Ugh, shit looks too familiar. Having been in the worst area for IED’s for three (out of 15 total in Iraq for that deployment as I was fortunate enough to get an extended stay thanks to the surge) consecutive months in Iraq in 2008 I can tell you the thing that was the worst part of those drives was the moments before that IED footage from the guy in the turret with the Mk. 19...specifically the feelings of boredom and complacency that you kick yourself for before they go off. It may be hours or days between them and when they happen and aren’t fatal you actually feel a sense of relief that’s hard to explain. As if it’s finally over for now and you can go back to somewhere a little safer. For us it was a little outpost we made from a train station (3-4 little buildings next to some tracks, just enough for our 20-30 guys) that felt like the safest place in the world even though we knew it wasn’t as it was regularly attacked. After we left insurgents took it over and we saw a picture of them in our little makeshift guard towers and it really gave me a sense that we didn’t accomplish much. Terrible place, hope it got better when we left.

man, that clip at the end is really humbling, initially, i was thought he was dead and happy he was alive and then the lists damage came up and i can't say if it was a better outcome.

This was very hard to watch - but you did so well with it. Thank you

I did an enlistment as a Marine infantryman(0351) between the years of 2008-12 and did two deployments to the frontlines of Helmand during those years. In fact, the Marines from 3/4 who were featured at 4:21 were the guys who replaced my platoon at our patrol base at the end of our deployment to Upper Gereshk in 2011. As much as it sucked, I really miss it and wish I could step off on another contact patrol with my old squad. There's no rush like walking into an ambush that you know is waiting for you. It's the best high I've ever felt in my life. Nothing else even comes close.

The sincerest 'fuck you' to anybody who glamorizes and romances the reality of war. Watching the clip of the Afghan commando brought tears to my eyes. Such pointless and meaningless violence.n

Anonymous

This documentary brings you immediately in touch with reality. The same reality we are all living in. The gruesome terror of war let's you instantaneously wish to live in a world without it. But it raises the question :" Do we need Soldiers, is war unavoidable"? I would argue that it was completely necessary to go to war with Nazi-Germany and to defeat this terrible ideology. Nonetheless, the motives of war have shifted throughout the history of the human species. Charles Bukowski famously wrote in his poem "The Genius of the Crowd : There is enough treachery, hatred, violence, absurdity in the average human being to supply any given army, on any given day. And the best at murder are those who preach against it. And the best at hate are those who preach love. And the best at war, finally, are those who preach peace. Those who preach God, need God. Those who preach peace do not have peace. Those who preach peace do not have love. Beware the preachers. Beware the knowers. They're afraid of what they do not know. Beware those quick to praise, for they need praise in return. Beware those who seek constant crowds for they are nothing alone. Beware the average man, the average woman: beware their love, their love is average; seeks average. But there is genius in their hatred. There is enough genius in their hatred to kill you, to kill anybody. Not wanting solitude, not understanding solitude, they will attempt to destroy anything that differs from their own. Not being able to create art, they will not understand art. They will consider their failure as creators only as a failure of the world. Not being able to love fully, they will believe your love incomplete, and then they will hate you. And their hatred will be perfect: like a shining diamond, like a knife, like a mountain, like a tiger, like hemlock.Their finest art. " That makes me wonder how a world without war would look like. I assume the first thing to start with is yourself.

That "war" cost the US two trillion dollars, and gained absolutely nothing.

Anonymous

Its difficult to make an accurate statement if you speak in absolutes. For my friends, that war gave and took something at different times. The same may be true for the country as a whole. One who speaks in absolutes may be inaccurate in their descriptions of the real world they live in. This sort of dynamic of balancing moral beliefs against objective necessities are one of the greater curses of humanity. A wild animal does not judge the morality of killing prey, but we as humans feel entitled to proclaim an understanding of an absolute truth about war... Any war. Interesting.

If you're replying to me... my comment wasn't regarding the killing or death of people at war. It was a statement about the long-term affects of the citizens in both Iraq and the US, most of which are financial hardships. Whether people died in this supposed conflict-- which was entirely a conflict of choice-- is not something I'm very emotional about.

Hate him or not I definitely appreciate Trump not pushing wars like all previous administrations have. I about dropped my coffee while watching a speech and heard him speak against the military industrial complex. A first in my lifetime ever hearing a sitting president speak out against it. There are times action must be taken, but wars for profit must end!

I understand where you're coming from. Hey Molly, after reading your heartfelt-comments I have a favor to ask. I am currently making a video game that has one of it's concepts about going into the issues of war, and I would like to have some of the words you said in this post be the words of a character in my game's story who is against war. I will be sure to give credit to you if you will allow me to. If you say no, I won't do it. Whatever your decision, thank you.

Bush was considered an "idiot" by the public for a long time. Reviewing the first few minutes of this video now makes me appreciate just how much more articulate he is compared to a certain orange one.

The war on "terror" has been one of the most wasteful endeavors of human history. We lost so many soldiers, civilians, equipment, vehicles, funding, and so much more. My friend who was a Marine Linguist and was deployed to Afghanistan came home a truly broken man with severe PTSD and has great difficulties rejoining society due to his mental health issues. Like someone else has said here, war is so pointless.

Anonymous

We're doing just about as good with this "war on terror" as we have so far made a difference fighting the "war on drugs". I understand these concepts are completely different...for the most part, but many parallels can still be drawn. unrelated Side note- F*** Trump. There ought to be rules against heavily mentally handicapped fools with too much money and a gnarly combover running this country.

I've tried so hard to understand what my dad has been through while on his tours as an ARMY surgeon in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has never wanted to talk about it with me and now I have a small understand why. The trauma that he and his patients endured is far beyond anything I could imagine.

Anonymous
>>46827528

I havent seen it but you should watch it anyway. The worst part is the nervous feeling of seeing violence and desensitising yourself to scenes like this can be healthy for your psychology in stressful or violent situations. You WILL react less & less :) peace be upon you

Anonymous

honestly spyro if you wanna still get as much jim in as possible without being traumatized, you should be alright to watch it until 17:35, about a minute after that it gets really gory but before that is fine

Amanda Feliciano

I didn't think anything could phase me, I've seen some of the worst shit on the internet for sure, but this first personfootage of soldiers inthe field getting mortally wounded was awful. If you're not ok with extremely graphic footage don't watch this. It will haunt you.

When the common person realizes that these wars are alot about money and power, only then we have a real chance to stop the wars. But that will never happen. People are too brainwashed to even question anything that the mainstream media or their government tells them. I want to challenge you, take any global company in the world and take a look at their board of directors and main shareholders. Investigate their past and their connections. I did this 13 years ago. You will quickly find out that everyone at the top are connected to eachother and that they play for the same team. The common people dont rule the world, they give us the illussion of democracy with their elections. But when you are paying for all sides of the political arena you can't lose.

God Bless the Medics

Matthew Poillon

It is very sobering to see war like this. Oftentimes the notion of war gets romanticized due to Hollywood; with movies boasting the heroic bravado of American soldiers who always come out alive and victorious. This shows war how really it is. Brutal and scary as hell. With an enemy like theirs, one who will brazenly walk amongst the soldiers disguised as civilians ready and willing to die, you never know if you'll be next.

Anonymous

God Bless our troops and God bless our allies. I am so humbled by what these men sacrifice. It is an absolute travesty that these men struggle to receive the care they need back at home. We as a society should be ashamed that we do not provide adequate care for our veterans. Although we as Americans may be divided on the politics and merits of war, we should all be able to come together and agree that veterans deserve all of the respect and support we can provide them. That is not a political stance. It's an issue of common decency and common sense.

All this suffering over some bs politics

Didn't watch the video because I refuse to relive those days (except in my fukn dreams every night) but heck yea God bless the medics! 1st CAV front line medic checking in. Great comment my friend.

That was hard to watch - but I made myself do it I am going to have horrific nightmares, but nothing compared to what those men go through the video says he survived how is that possible? Did he really? These men run around taking bullets to the brain or get blown up while the leaders sit at their desk in leather chairs smoking cigares it's unbearable!!!

Anonymous

"Extremely graphic" - I thought it wouldn't so bad... I was wrong.

Anonymous

Can somebody help with finding the censored version. As much as I want to watch this in its entirety, I don't think I can handle the extreme violence in this one, or maybe someone can help me with timestamps of anything extremely gory or violent in this video, thank you so much!

I couldn’t watch this. I’ve watched everything else of his but couldn’t get through this. I got a few minutes in and stopped at the part that switched to the helmet cam. My heart rate skyrocketed and I’m shaking.

That last one was bad, but he survived thanks to the soldiers, I would sit in a corner shitting myself

Anonymous

I was hesitant for the first few seconds just because it's different from the interrogations, but wow, this was very well done and tough to watch, and I mean that in the best way possible. Thanks, JCS, for showing us the 'hidden perspective' on this chilling topic.

So fucked...my Grandfather was a field surgeon in WW2 and saw shit he would never speak of, my brother enlisted into the Air Force at 18, was deployed to Afghanistan within a year and placed in the policing unit arresting and transporting enemies. He doesn't talk about it much but he saw his best friend get his head blown off a few feet away from him, He's in and out of rehab and prison and totally unstable. It's heartbreaking. Too many young boys killed, maimed, fucked in the head, and then they come home and have to deal with a bunch of red tape and are soon forgotten about because no one can relate to the horror that they've seen...

Nicos Ledakis

Everyone in the US should see this. Civilians just don't realize, and take for granted.

Most of the comically stupid orders and regulations didn't flow down to the front line exactly as laid out for global political sensibilities. The number of severely wounded is so high because we're (I'm a medic) so good at fixing people up we can do live person-to-person blood transfusions in the field. Also we called in a medevac via EMAIL one time, and they got to us in less than 15 minutes. Don't praise the commandos or police force. I'm sure there are some good ones, those who had firsthand training and experience with SF units (which would be roughly 10% of the number who work with the SF units since the average casualty rate hovers around 80% for them), but the first people who shot at us in Iraq were the Iraqi police. They thought it would get our attention to help them with a downed truck. We put a thermite grenade on the engine block and used it for firing checks since it was so close to the base. The best strategy we ever used in fighting the enemy was the "give kids shit-tons of food" plan. It was AMAZING to see how quickly everyone along the route got really really bad at putting IEDs together. They were pointed toward the ground, away from the road, had wires disconnected, and twice the kids took apart IEDs before we got there because they didn't want their cookie delivery service interrupted. I'm National Guard, the active units were gate guards and admin. I wondered why until an active unit replaced us when we rotated out. We brought everyone that we took over back with us, alive and with 0 serious injuries, and we brought back 2 extra guys that stayed on when their unit left. One time we had to shoot into an ambulance as we had intel that they were being used as VBEDs and this one was not getting dissuaded from cutting into the convoy. We tried everything to tell him to GTFO for about a minute, but he kept coming in, as soon as we put a few small arms rounds in it as warning shots he pulled over and we were all panicking. The family riding in the back with their daughter got out while medics checked everyone out... and beat the shit out of the drive. They appreciated how we were falling all over ourselves apologizing but insisted it was his fault for trying to cram himself into the convoy. The unit that replaced us lost 3 people in their first week. Turns out that no one forgot how to plant effective IEDs or shoot rockets at people or start small arms firefights, they just didn't do that stuff to us because we were feeding their kids and them by extension. The most effective tool in our arsenal was a cooler in each truck stuffed with as much food and drink as possible.
