What's it like to pursue a degree in video games? And what's life like as a video game professor?

This week, my guest is Aaron Trammell, a professor at the University of California, Irvine, who teaches undergraduate and graduate students about games, ranging from video games to tabletop games, the craft of design to the critique of play.

(Audio note: There's a little bit of audio level imbalance with my guest's recording in this episode. I was able to fix most of the issues, but it sounds just a little strange, that's why. This should be a one-off issue. Thanks for your patience!)

Might be my favorite episode yet, and not because I was (briefly) part of the Informatics program at UCI. Fascinating interview. I want more!!

Another great episode, thanks for that interview! And I knew you were going to talk about Process, based on that opening. Either that or House of Leaves 🤣 It's on my shelf. I'm going to get to it some time this winter. All T&F books are absolutely gorgeous, too. Grant Us Eyes is one of the most intricately designed books I've ever halfway read and not at all understood 😅

I'm constantly impressed with this podcast (all your guests are so interesting!) , but I also wanted to thank you for the work you put in the newsletter. Your "What Else I've Been Enjoying" section is one of my favorite lists to click through every week. Cheers.

Great ep! Can’t wait to grab the Outer Wilds book. You DID call it Outer Worlds when reading the quote, though…

Chris, this was a great episode! So interesting and informative. I have a silly follow up question that maybe you or your guest have some thoughts on. I’m not in a position to move in order to potentially work on a master’s degree in game design. I was wondering if there are any programs people recommend that are both remote and reputable.
