Today’s episode is a year in the making.

During last Christmas break, having read my 500th best-of list, my tummy stuffed full of a turkey sandwich, and my brain a little buzzed on mulled wine, I had an idea for my own end-of-year feature.

What if I spoke with the creator of the game of the year both before their game came out and then again, months later, as the awards began to trickle in? Imagine how different they might be, swimming in their vault of gold coins! Or perhaps I’d discover how little had changed!

This episode may be the closest I ever get. It's a huge project spanning seven months and two jobs. I first spoke with Tonda Ros, the creator of Blue Prince, days before that game's release. And just this week, ahead of The Game Awards, we chatted again. How does a critically adored game with a player count over 2 million change its creator's life?

Great episode! Loved the before and after! And merciful lack of spoilers.

I got my friend Blue Prince for his birthday in July and knew he wasn’t playing it because he hadn’t texted me about it so I was like oh let’s play it today and then this episode released while we’re still playing lol. He’s in Ireland so it’s past midnight, we’ve been playing for like eight hours lol

Respectfully, and of course I don't see (hear) all the editing you had to do to get it to be usable, I think you were *way* too worried about the audio/interview quality of the first interview. It was great! Really loved the juxtaposition of the two interviews and I'm glad you decided to use the old recording to make this episode.

I love this show! Blue Prince is by far the game I've clocked the most hours on this year, so I was so pleased to hear from Tonda. I have to drop in to say, I felt a bit click-baited by the suggestion that there would be news of a Blue Prince movie or sequel, when the answer was "hm, no, I don't think I'd ever do that." I mean, it's news I guess, and you had to ask the question, but it was a little disappointing!

Great work, this episode is wonderful. Hope to hear more pre and post interviews like this in the future.

Great work on this one, Chris. Really loved the insight and learning about the movie posters. What a wild thing to do, and it explains so much.
