Where I get video game news: I’ve listened to every episode of Triple Click, Besties/Resties and Post Games. End of list. I live in a strange alternate reality where video game discourse is universally thoughtful and nice and everyone just kinda knows everyone else. Also, do you think you could just get John Darnielle on the show and ask him what he thinks about video games?

Sandy Lester

I love Jon Bois videos so much but didn't expect to hear about it through my videogame podcast!

Lindsay B

It kind of blew my mind when Chris was on the Panic World podcast earlier this year, like, all my favorite digital millennial journalists know each other? 🤔

Brett Bates

News sources for me (44-year-old dude): Kotaku these days for traditional “daily” news; Aftermath for more in-depth work; and then social (game folks on Bluesky, friends, coworkers on Slack); and, finally, a boatload of newsletters: Game File, Superjoost, GameDiscoverCo, Pushing Buttons, Post Games (!), Crossplay, Hit Points.

Frank

My games news: blogs for a long time (RPS and a bunch of long-defunct ones, like TIGSource), podcasts more recently (post games, the game business, indieventure, and 1-10 episodes of all the others) and a few newsletters I fail to keep up with (game file, direct subscriptions to developers). Steam's new calendar is a nice way to follow new releases, too.

For so long I felt like the only freaking person that played Dicey Dungeon, crazy listen to AP mention it. DD totally changed my design trajectory. I'm not even sure what I'm doing without it.

James

The only video game news sources I actively check each week are Post Games, Triple Click, Besties, and Game File. After that, it’s pretty much the Apple News video games topic algo. Would love other newsletter recommendations along the lines of Game File.

My main sources come from The Worst Garbage podcast network with shows like Into the Aether and Videogame Podtimism, Girl Mode, and Dot Zip. Really anything that crew touches is pure gold to me. Remap Radio is also on top of the list primo-sh*t. Basically the only media I consume on a daily basis is games journalism. All the way from Minn Max and Giant Bomb to Skybox Critics and Mothership, down to little weird-beard outlets like Sasha's Retrobytes. I also listen to Axe of the Blood God, Besties/Resties, VGBees, and Retronauts. Thoughtful people discussing gaming is my lyyyyyfe! It seems like it would be time consuming, but my ADHD brain loves *content* baybeeee. Big shout out to Stephen Totilo's newsletter as well. And small self-promotion if you'll excuse it, it's not news, but some folx might be interested: gAmeDHD.com where we talk about neurodivergence and video games.

I think - and hope - that Titanium Court is gonna sell like hotcakes. The demo I played was so so juicy. I need it in my veins.

Video game news audio format: I'll get from Post Games, Triple Click, and The Besties. (100% want to find other podcasts that feature women and poc to help diversify what/how I hear about games). Video game news "other": What people/developers post on Bluesky, either in the Following or Discover feed.
