probably my favorite trash media is the southern vampire mysteries (the sookie stackhouse/True Blood books). they are so deliciously trashy and silly and i love them so much.

The state of online discourse would be a way better place if more people could talk unabashedly about loving media we don't actually think is very good. Sometimes it's just more interesting!

mostly this is terrible bc i also deeply love 2/5 of these things. i don’t have anything to add ab love hate & clickbait except that it sucks so bad and i’ve read it at least twice in three months 😔👍

this is going to sound so unserious but genuinely I think the weird DC film bros who bent over backwards trying to explain why the infamous Snyder Cut are really the ones who broke me of the need to try and justify why things I like must be High Art. it's so much more honest and, like you said, interesting to just hold up something you love and admit that it's not that great and you just love it because it makes you happy or whatever. I'm cringe but I am free, etc.

HARD SAME ON THE COOKIES I wish I hadn’t turned out to be gluten-intolerant. I miss the artificiality. If I had to pick my favorite trash… I don’t know, Destiny 2 might count but I stopped keeping track of releases because I was getting too angry. Possibly it counts because I love Destiny with my whole heart but genuinely would warn anyone who cares about consistency away from buying the game.

my ABSOLUTE favorite silly fantasy book series is Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. the main character is named Phedre, and she has a red mote in her eye that means she's ~an anguisette~, chosen by the god of punishment and judgement to experience All Pain As Pleasure. god's perfect little masochist. this is ESSENTIAL to the plot. there is load-bearing systemic BDSM in this series and it SLAPS. edit: did not realize hitting enter posted. oops. anyway. the sheer commitment to the bit is ABSOLUTELY unparalleled. its set in not even thinly veiled western europe around the mediterranean, and the theology is "what if when jesus died, angels came up from his blood and were a polycule and then blessed fantasy-france." the whole thing is written in first person retrospective so present-day Phedre constantly interjects with shit like "of course i did not yet know that this would change the course of my life" etc etc. her One True Love is a warrior monk sworn to celibacy. all time favorite series.
