every time somebody whines, "this new shit is the death of art!!" all i can think is, you know you can just read old books or watch old films or whatever, right? you don't have to engage with ~new~ things you find ~distasteful~ if you don't want to. they're not expelling copies of "little women" or "pride and prejudice" from your local bookstore or library.

The way people talk about "TikTok books" as if they're this very Concerning Issue is so similar to how people talk about the horror genre. Making sweeping statements about how horror is a dumb, useless genre with no worthwhile films which is A) patently false and B) such a dumb way to talk about art. Yes there are very good, very clever horror films like Us, Texas Chainsaw, and Candyman, but sometimes you just wanna watch something dumb and pulpy like Chopping Mall or Blood Rage or Slumber Party Massacre 2. Sometimes you want to watch the son of the guy who founded Little Caesar's kill people with his rock and roll guitar in a movie that's all but a musical 🤷
